  1. The ratio of Brewer hitters drilled to how often our pitchers do the same is getting pretty crazy. I certainly don't want Roenicke to be recklessly giving up baserunners by hitting batters, but at some point we do need to show some willingness to protect our players. It's getting pretty ridiculous.
  2. Greinke having a very hard time getting a bunt down tonight. I don't particularly agree with having a good hitting pitcher like Greinke bunting with 2 strikes.
  3. Here's where Rickie could really gain a ton of confidence if he came through here...
  4. I hate the logic that Rock just brought up about how the goal is to win the series, you don't expect to sweep them. No, you don't expect to sweep the Dodgers. But every game is unique and separate from every other. It is not a volleyball match. They are just divided up into series' for ease of travel. Unless we are talking about the playoffs, a "series" really means nothing more than a set of games against the same team in a row. If you won the first 3 games in a 4 game series, you want the 4th one just as much as the others. You don't kick your feet up just because the "series" has already been a success.
  5. Certainly you're entitled to have that opinion and a lot of people feel that way, but IMO 4 hour game talk is really hyperbole. There is no way that an efficient replay system is going to add more than an average of 5 minutes per game. Each challenge in an NFL game takes over 5 minutes, remember challenge = commercial break. Plus it ruins the in game excitement because you know whenever a big play happens there is going to be a challenge delay. Not to mention all the auto challenges they have in college football. I'll just say I respectfully disagree with these statements and time estimates. I suppose we should save it for a different thread.

  7. Wow, Dodger fans throwing opposing HR balls back on the field just like Cub fans. You're so cool to be able to be like Cub fans!
  8. And blue costs us a run with a blown call. Things like that make me really tire of the "they get 99% of them right", which seems like a statistical impossibility for how much we hear this.
  9. I should clarify from my original post that I think everyone is tradeable. Epstein made a good comment about that today, and I think it's completely true -- making a guy "untradeable" does nothing but limit your options. "Untradeable" just means that you would have to be blown away to do it. Braun is "untradeable", but if the Nationals called and offered Zimmermann, Strasburg, and Harper, you'd pull the trigger.
  10. I didn't believe it at first, but I actually am starting to a little bit more now. Not that I think it's any more believable, but because I can't think of any good reason that if he were going to make up a story, that he would make up one which involved throwing his wife under the bus, knowing how much heat she would take for it.
  11. I agree with baserunners being good, but just like with the sac bunt, there is a time and place for the IBB where it is strategically sound. Sac bunting in front of Braun was fine when you had Prince behind him, but now they get to just avoid him every time. You don't want your best hitter getting IBB'ed. And I don't agree about the potential scenarios with Aoki leading off and Hart batting #2. Batting Hart leadoff based on the fear of him GIDP is pretty silly, IMO. He's not slow, for one thing. He's also the second biggest extra base hit threat on your team. Having him up with a runner on 1st is a good thing, not a bad thing.
  12. What is even more frustrating about this to me is the fact that Roenicke's sole qualification to be a #2 hitter on this team seems to be "good bunter". There is zero reason to have Hart leadoff over Aoki, Aoki is as prototypical of a leadoff man as we have. But since he can bunt, RR wants him batting 2nd for the sac bunt situation. Which in turn, as we learned twice tonight, takes the bat out of Braun's hands and sets up Ramirez for a DP situation. No matter how you feel about sac bunting, think of this -- our lineup is literally designed to take the bat out of Braun's hands with runners on base. Something is wrong with that.
  13. Strange...I was just assuming the other day, that with all these injuries and AAA players out there, there just isn't enough to remain competitive enough offensively. Then I looked over the lineup. Lucroy is back in a month. If, if by then, Weeks' horrible slide ends (likely), and Ramirez puts up his usual strong second half (history would tell us, pretty likely), then when Lucroy comes back, we have an everyday lineup of RF Aoki 1B Hart LF Braun 3B Ramirez C Lucroy 2B Weeks SS Ransom CF Gomez/Morgan And weirdly enough, sheesh, that actually is a good lineup. I just wish Aoki would slide into the leadoff spot already. Aoki is as prototypical of a leadoff man as we have. If you're going to insist on having a power guy in the leadoff spot, as least do something correspondingly that makes sense, like having the pitcher bat 8th. Unfortunately I'm afraid that Hart isn't batting 1st so much for his power as for the fact that Roenicke's sole preferred qualification for a #2 hitter is "good bunter".
  14. Strong pet peeve of mine: walking hitters with a multi-run lead.
  15. Bryce Harper has a huge advantage in terms of media exposure Definitely, but he sure hasn't done enough this year to be a runaway candidate.
  16. Is Aoki eligible for Rookie of the Year? Not sure what the NL ROY field looks like so far, to be honest, and not sure if anyone is running away with it, but Aoki has really been well worth the fee and contract for him so far. Of course it's very early and I'm not sure if Aoki can keep up an .850+ OPS but I'm just curious.
  17. I'm trying so hard to give RR the benefit of the doubt, I really am. I'm trying really hard to force myself to think that he's learning from his mistakes. I get that he's in love with the sac bunt, but taking the bat out of Braun's hands twice to set up the double-play machine in Ramirez is maddening. It was only by complete fluke that it didn't bite him in the 8th.
  18. Every time I want to give Roenicke the benefit of the doubt, he does something like this...twice.
  19. DON'T BUNT HERE. Even if you succeed here they will just walk Braun with first base empty and set up the extremely slow Ramirez for the DP and suddenly they're out of the inning.
  20. Agree with all that moving Estrada back to the pen would be a very good development for the bullpen. You can get rid of the Chulk/Perez disaster at the back end of the pen, and suddenly Axford/K-Rod/Loe/Parra/Estrada/Veras/Dillard isn't looking so bad.
  21. Fair, but bunting in front of Braun is inconceivable. Agreed, it has it's time and place, I think it's overused by RR, but I get trying to make something work out of what is really a patchwork lineup right now. But taking the bat out of the one and only elite hitter you have left in the lineup by doing it is never the right time and place for it.
