  1. Well, you might as well have Rodriguez save the pen now, if he can even get that many outs.
  2. Pretty low if you can believe it. 27th out of 30. As fans we obviously have more of a jaded perspective but with a team built on speed I think it checks out.
  3. That 1-1 sinker to Perkins on the outside corner, he barely started his swing before the ball was in the catcher’s mitt. He is unbelievably lost right now.
  4. Can guys on the IL be stalled on there if the team is in a roster crunch? Like, did Bauers just get “healthy” enough to play 2 days ago which coincidentally happened to be when Ortiz went on IL, or is it roster games and he’d still be on IL if Ortiz didn’t get hurt?
  5. I’m assuming you mean since coming off bereavement. He was actually quite good for a couple weeks off the IL, but has been completely lost since coming off bereavement.
  6. Is the difference between the two that significant? That was an easy read off the bat as a gapper, no need to hesitate. I would think all but the biggest of sloths in baseball would have scored on that, they didn’t come close to making a play at the plate.
  7. Bauers starting in the 5 hole in his first game versus a RHP coming off the IL might be the least surprising lineup decision of all time. I’m fine if it’s just a day off. If Vaughn starts regularly riding the pine versus RHP I’m going to cry.
  8. Yeah, I would mostly agree with that, the difference between teams is less than people realize. If the Cubs had a months’ worth of games against the Rockies, that would be a little concerning but that’s obviously not the case. I guess our common ground consensus here is that strength of schedule especially over a 1 month span is pretty marginal.
  9. I wouldn’t really say strength of schedule is “phony”. The records don’t lie, over the course of 162 games the good teams are winning a lot, maybe 100 games for the best, and then progressively less as you go down the line until you get to the worst teams at 50-60. So logic follows that over the course of a seasons’ time, you’re going to have a higher percentage chance of beating poor teams, which will lose more overall, than the very good team who will lose less. Is it overblown? Sometimes, because it’s just one factor. How your team is playing at one particular time matters, how hot, how healthy, etc. And obviously there are individual exceptions, some contenders have certain poor teams that they struggle with while some poor teams may have the number of a high end team.
  10. Adames is really living rent free in some people’s heads here. He returned, got the nice ovation he deserved and then was appropriately treated like an opponent. He had a great game against his former team which he is paid to do and we won anyway. Not much else to it. You would think he tore off his jersey, beat his chest and flipped the crowd off as he rounded the bases with how concerned some people are about it.
  11. Count me as being totally unconcerned about Megill’s blown save. If Lockridge doesn’t go all out for out #3 and just plays it safe and keeps the ball in front of him, no save is blown. If Contreras keeps the spiked pitch in front of him (although not his fault at all), no save is blown. Megill looked good. He got the first two outs with ease and then baseball happened. 1 run save situations are always going to be dicier with no margin for error and no close is perfect. I’ll take him getting one of the way in a game we won anyway.
  12. The Angels are something. Imagine being gifted two of the greatest players in baseball history and screwing it up so bad that you can’t even win a playoff game. That’s the Angels.
  13. Just for the sake of discussion. the Phillies lost tonight to the lowly Nats. the Dodgers just split a 4 game series with the far and away worst team in baseball, Colorado Rockies. Its just so damn hard to be consistent in this sport, even for the best teams.
