That was Chourio, who fortunately was hustling all the way. 1 more second and it’s only 5-4.
Not great baserunning by Vaughn, but I won’t be too critical of him right now.
This last AB notwithstanding, Haase just hasn’t done a lot to make a case for more playing time this year.
Brian I think it was also brought up the point earlier today that Williams’ relationship with this pitching staff is likely a crucial ingredient of their success or they wouldn’t be pushing Contreras so much.
I think you’re selling Collins short. With his defense, he’s already an above average starter. Will he ever be a superstar, no, but I’m confident he’s a better everyday player than Tyler Black is ever going to be.
Contreras’ performance should be viewed with some perspective, though.
His OPS+ and wRC+ put him exactly league average offensively, so with his defense he’s still been an above average player - even in his worst year.
If he continues to perform exactly the same the rest of the year he’ll have completed about a 3.5 WAR season.
So he certainly hasn’t been hurting us. He just hasn’t carried the offense at times like he has in past seasons.
Vaughn isn’t going anywhere unless he goes into a crazy slump.
Rhys isn’t due back til mid to late August. They’ll take their time and wait til September when they gain two roster spots if they need to.
