  1. Freddy is 11-4 (if this lead holds) with a 2.66 ERA going into the break. I know Miz is all the talk for good reason, but Peralta doesn’t really get enough love for a low key Cy Young candidate.
  2. CP3 is ancient. I’d rather have Anthony. It’d be nice if they could still land Westbrook or Beal, but that probably won’t happen, But yeah, at least they got an upgrade to their rotation that they needed.
  3. Incredible win! I had already mentally accepted this as a “can’t win em all” type of loss after the top of the 9th and then this!
  4. I mean, if he is it’s “cash considerations” or “minor league player you’ve never heard of”, and that’s fine.
  5. I mean, good for him, that’s awesome. But after 5 starts? That’s kind of wild.
  6. Yeah I mean he was *terrible* for the White Sox this year, and has been great for us, both things can be true. You guys are right though, his career numbers aren’t awesome, but they’re not indicative of 2025. He was once a highly touted prospect. Not that I would expect it, but not impossible or unheard of to see guys be late bloomers or succeed with a change of scenery.
  7. I could be wrong but I don’t like pigeonholing one guy to your DH position for half a decade. It kind of limits your roster flexibility. Other guys need occasional days off from the field too where you still want to get their bat in the lineup — Contreras could have benefited from that this year. I hope that isn’t their long-term plan with Yelich. If he can’t get back to being at least somewhat serviceable in the OF I’d rather see if there’s any potential at 1B as has been suggested. Maybe they won’t want to trade him within the division, but if my memory is right Pittsburgh has been willing to go that route in the past. It’s not like they’re going to be contending anytime soon anyway. Agreed that I wouldn’t give up any notable prospects for Reynolds.
  8. My assumption is that they are being ultra-conservative with his return from back surgery. They’ve been fortunate to have that luxury with Collins emerging well enough to play every day. I don’t believe that Christian Yelich has now been reduced to our full time DH for the next 5 years.
  9. So, just to be clear: You: (Reynolds) makes more than our entire outfield combined. Me: That’s actually not true. You: So what? It’s fine if you disagree, I was just pointing out that what you said wasn’t factually accurate. Most MLB players will in fact make well under $15M because that’s just how salaries are structured for young players. But for a veteran every day player, it’s quite reasonable. I just think it’s odd to call a 30 year old “aging” who is 2 years younger than Yelich and has produced more WAR than Yelich in the last 5 years. His name came up because people believe he could rebound to the AS type level that he’s played at. I appreciate Isaac Collins, but I also don’t think he’s blocking anybody if better options present themselves.
  10. Huh? Yelich alone is making over $24M this year.
  11. Yeah, he was terrible for them. But we can’t assume he would have had the same bad results here if he had stayed. None of this is me saying we shouldn’t have made the deal. Just pondering if the eventual results of that season post-trade will be in the back of Arnold’s mind when considering team chemistry disruption or if if it not a factor at all, Example, I think we could still make the playoffs without Freddy Peralta, on paper, if we dealt him. But I would imagine it would be a major clubhouse disruption so I don’t know exactly how it would play out.
  12. A few years ago, we traded Hader despite being in 1st place. Things kind of fell apart from there, not really directly because of that, but things just all sort of went downhill. Anyone wonder if that year will give Arnold some pause on making a similar move this year at risk of disrupting the clubhouse and team chemistry?
  13. He looked like he was on the downside of his career from 2019 to 2021, and then somehow seemed to figure it out again. Not sure if he just reinvented himself as a pitcher or what. It’s a bit odd to me that Quintana wasn’t even able to get 5M a year.
  14. I’m pretty sure Frankie Montas started our second playoff game last year. There's a lot of reason why we didn’t get out of the first round last year, but lack of quality starting pitching didn’t help. I am also not opposed to trading from our SP depth if the value is just too good to pass up, but I’d rather go into the playoffs this year with too much starting pitching depth than not enough.
  15. #2 really isn’t true at all. $15M a year is peanuts on an MLB contract in 2025. You can’t even buy a Rhys Hoskins or a Frankie Montas for that. Plus a trade doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re taking on the entire value of the contract. Downside of his career, I don’t know, you’re assuming he’s just washed up and cooked, just because he’s 32 and having a down year doesn't mean he’s for sure cooked. I’m sure people thought the same about Yelich the last couple years.
  16. Definitely impressed with Vaughn this series and have already gotten more out of him than I expected. No matter what happens, we got him for pretty much nothing. And even if all it ends up amounting to is a few moments, and not a future 1B, that’s totally fine. Some guys are here for a short time and in that time they have a few memories and help us win games. Those kinds of players matter, too. Rowdy Tellez was one of those guys for us.
  17. Absolute trash AB by Monasterio. Did he realize he didn’t have to be Joey Ortiz just because he was batting for him?
  18. The opportunity to win this game was when we had Glasnow on his heels in the early innings with the bases loaded and 1 out and Bauers and Ortiz came up and couldn’t do anything.
  19. Correct. And he’s accumulated that negative WAR despite having enough opportunities for nearly 2000 career plate appearances. wRC+ is going to paint him in a better light than WAR, but he’s still 16% below average for his career, and it’s an entirely offensive stat.
