  1. I just want to also add (and of course it's convenient for me to say since it obviously affects us adversely more than anyone), this format absolutely sucks. They've watered down the playoff field, though at least all NL playoff teams this year will be good ones. But it sucks that we're going to get bunched in with the 3 wild card teams rather than the 2 division winners and have to play a short series where anything can happen just to even make the NLDS. I thought the one WC, 4 team format was perfect. I could even stomach the 5 team format with the two WCs doing the play-in, though I liked the 4 team more. Oh well, just a rant since they're obviously never going to go back. More teams = more games = more money.
  2. Agreed. There's no easy out in the NL. It's going to be a tough first opponent and if there are more opponents they will only get tougher. I'd go as far as to say I'm not certain that we will be the betting favorite in our matchup to get out of the WC round.
  3. Random thought this morning: I know it's way, way too early to draw conclusions. I know the talent is there. But. I really do think there's an excellent chance that Caleb Williams is going to be a massive bust. I know the pressure has been massive on him, but he hasn't approached any of it with an ounce of humility. He embraced all the expectations. I think he expected to come in and own this league from Day 1. I watched the footage of Stroud trying to encourage him after the loss the other day. Caleb's demeanor was one of an immature ass. I don't know if this guy had the mental makeup and poise to pick himself up off the mat every time he gets down in the NFL. It's not *just* about talent.
  4. So you've got 10 games left, and you either need go make up 3 games on the Dodgers or 4 on the Phillies to get a bye. Do you at least push for it another few games? Or do you resign yourself to the 3 seed and make sure every relevant playoff roster player gets adequate rest over the rest of the season, wins and losses be damned?
  5. I think maybe its a product of "been here too many times for that"? This has a way different feeling than 2008 or 2011. We are used to this by now. Although this is probably the least likely division champion I've ever seen as far as preseason expectations.
  6. Can they just let Chourio's mom in the clubhouse and let him drink? I mean come on now.
  7. I don't care if it was already clinched, this was an important win. Who wants to strand a leadoff triple in the 9th, lose in extras, and then go pop champagne?
  8. I'd be more mad if he just watched 3 strikes. He tried ....it was just not good.
  9. Of course it's Jake Bauers that wins it. Lol.
  10. Holy hell that was bad, Mitchell. Either of those first two pitches should have ended the game.
  11. If Chourio could just walk this off that would be great. Extra innings have not been particularly enjoyable to watch lately and I'm sure the bullpen would like to also not see it.
  12. Out for sure. Looked out live.
  13. Or at least ask one of his kids to ask Dad.
  14. Just so we're clear, Jake Bauers' actual level for his career is a well below AAA replacement level player, no regression to the mean needed.
  15. Given that the DH is a thing, help me understand why Jake Bauers has 327 plate appearances this season and Eric Haase has 58.
  16. I think what's special about it this year is this team wasn't expected to do this. Instead, they blew the doors off the rest of the division. Pretty cool. With that said, today has the "just another day" feeling to me more than in past years for two reasons: 1) This had been a forgone conclusion for weeks, 2) This organization has been here way too much in the last decade+ to treat this like a huge deal every year. It's time to move on to bigger things.
  17. Even if we could, I don't see the Dodgers going 6-5 when they play more than half their remaining schedule against Colorado. Not exactly an imposing remaining schedule they have left.
  18. Kind of bittersweet of a clinch coming up as our last gasp chance of catching the Phillies pretty much dies with this loss. Not only do we drop back to 4 GB but they clinch the tiebreaker. Was always going to be tough to get the sweep.
  19. It's fine as long as you're going to limit him to 5 innings and not try to push him a 3rd time through the order.
  20. I know it's obviously coincidental, but this is probably the 5th GT in the last month where everyone gushing about Montas was immediately followed by a bad inning for him.
  21. Great win. To have any real chance of catching the Phillies, you have to have the sweep. That would put them 1 game down, but likely with the tiebreaker. Just win the next 2.
  22. This is a team that really could have benefited this year from the old September roster expansion rules. We'd probably be using a 34, 35 man roster right now, there'd be no running out of arms.
  23. Yeah, the rationalization was on Devin was a little weak, to me. He's either available or he's not. If it's so essential to limit him to a low amount of pitches than you'd honestly have been better off just saying he wasn't available. I also thought it was strange that he called it a "consensus" decision. You are the manager of the Milwaukee Brewers, correct? It's not run by a committee. Step up and take ownership of the decision. I don't know who was in on the consensus, but Devin definitely wasn't among them. None of this is to say that Murphy isn't a good manager and doesn't deserve Manager of the Year award. It doesn't mean all his decisions are beyond reproach and not subject to examination.
  24. Can you name one single time this season where the sac bunt method in extras has produced the intended result? (I.e, leadoff man successfully sacrificed man to 3rd, next batter produced ground ball or flyball that successfully scored run from 3rd that would not have otherwise scored from 2nd). I'm not asking to be snarky, I just cannot think of even one specific time when it has worked successfully.
  25. Also, on Narveson. Both games I found myself being excited for our kicking game again, only to be deflated with the "here we go again" feeling on the miss. It *feels* like he's better than Anders, and the eye test to me makes it seem like he's better than Anders. So I think some patience is warranted. That said, kicking is a cutthroat business in the NFL, where your average kickers might miss 5 field goals in an entire season. So I'm good for now, but another miss next week and you're going to see that leash really start to get shorter.
