I can never look at him without being reminded that Ron Roenicke thought he was a competent enough defensive CFer to stick him out there in his twilight years with the season on the line.
If he doesn't perform, which he hasn't, they won't have much of a choice. I don't think they gave up anything that they'd be too stubborn to just cut their losses on.
