  1. I like how the article compares the players when they batted lead off. Kendall has a career .370 OBP batting lead off, which ignores the last few years he's been batting eigth or ninth. Weeks has "struggled" his whole career and yet his OBP is .362 in the same spot. I think it's a no brainer that Weeks will be a better lead off hitter than Kendall in 2009. Which means we might have Kendall lead off 40-50 times.
  2. I just bought tickets for the Friday night game down 1B in the OF, and for Sat night down 3B in the OF. I figured they were bad seats. I've never been to the Triple H Dome and wanted to catch a game there before they open their new park. It will also be the GF's first game outside The Keg. I figure it will help instill in her how great The Keg is. But I expect it will be better than the Urinal on the North Side.
  3. As Ralph Wiggum would say, that be unpossible. I've never read anything on this board more deserving of being in blue.
  4. My catcher has played through ST and one week of AA. He also refuses to pick up a bunt until the batter has already reached base. This really sucks during sac bunts. But I have a PS2 not connected to the net, so I don't get updates.
  5. I reference many people with the name "Fib", but do not consider any of them my friends.
  6. The problem is that the mediocre player has the tools to be better than the others offensively. And unlike one of those players, has the body type to not see his production fall off a cliff. If my math is correct, Rickie came up to the majors when he was 22. Now we have prospects that are 22 and we don't expect them to come up for another couple of years. I think Rickie was rushed to the majors because of the lack of talent, and that might have hurt his growth. I think/hope that at some point he'll finally put it together and become the player scouts predicted. I just hope we haven't given up on him before that happens. And since OF is already overcrowded, I wouldn't move him there.
  7. Yes, we'll have a below average 3B in Escobar. But it would result in the same hitting lineup as if we had moved Hardy over to 3B and would keep Hardy happy. It's an out of the box thinking that could work. That's what small market teams need to sometimes do. Like signing a C that can longer throw and just sticking him at 1B. Not a permanent gold star move, but one that could work out for a year or two.
  8. Hardy won't move because it will cost him too much money. Even if we pay him now, in 4 years he'll be a 31 yo slightly above average 3B who hasn't played SS in four years. He'll make a lot more money if he sticks to SS. Heck, Omer Vizquel was a starting SS last year. If Vizquel had moved to 3B when he was 27, I doubt he would have been in the league last year. Here's an outside suggestion. A-Rod was a better defensive SS than Jeter, but it was A-Rod that moved positions because Jeter was already established on that team. Why not try the same and see if Escobar would move to allow a slightly less defensive SS (but still a MLB caliber one) stay at his position?
  9. I hate how the announcers brought up the great play Rollins made against Canada, and then said it was no question that Jeter would have been able to make a similar play. There is no way Jeter makes that play. He had a similar play in garbage time against Venezuela and didn't even bother trying to throw it to first. I also don't like the mistake ESPN made to show a commercial during the only hit Braun's had so far. The WBC is growing on me. I like the timing because it's been months since I've seen baseball. Hopefully USA can make it to the third round.
  10. I think the Casey (sp?) in McGehee's name is causing confusion. GameDay says Mcgehee, C, 3B. I mistaked that as catcher also. But then I noticed that Hart also has a C, next to his name. I don't know why only those two have their first letters listed.
  11. Can someone explain this one? Was it an attempted straight steal? Was it an almost wild pitch but he didn't make it home?
  12. Here's a reason to leadoff Kendall. He came out after catching only 4 innings, but he still got 3 ABs in. It's a decent way to get him the ABs but still limiting the amount of time he's behind the plate. Hopefully that's all there is to it.
  13. I'll try to inject only a little politics into this post. I think it's clear that anyone making over a million dollars a year will see their tax rate go up in the next couple of years. That might be one reason to not take deferred money.
  14. My friend is camping out there. He enjoys the experience and the ability to brag about how he got the tickets. He's also the type to care more about drinking and picking fights with Cubs fans. That's why I normally don't go to games with him.
  15. Are we slightly overpaying for Cameron? Yes. But we're also underpaying for the services of Braun, Hart, Fielder, YoGa, and to some extents Weeks, Hardy, and Parra. Being GM means playing a balancing game. Know where you're underpaying guys and use the extra money to overpay at other positions (ie Cam and the Pen ). I don't mind in the least since it's not a long term deal that might preclude us from resigning some of the "underpaid" players (cough Suppan cough). Not talking Cam's option and offering Arby might have led to another team deciding they can overpay him even more than what we did. And if that team was the Yankees, we would have gotten a 600th round pick for losing Cam.
  16. This is why I quit the teaching profession and switched to IT.
  17. I think it's a special case with YoGa since he didn't log many innings last year. Pitching in the Classic would eat up innings he could be saving for the regular season. I know he's going to pitch in ST, but ptiching some innings against the Angels in Az puts a lot less stress than facing Puerto Rico with tens of thousands watching in Mexico City.
  18. Maybe the pitchers are woried about walking Hardy in front of those two, so he simply sees less balls when hitting #2. Are there any statistics on how many pitches are out of the strike zone when he's hitting in the #2 hole compared to other spots in the lineup? Is his BA difference significant?
  19. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/6322/yoststandfo3.gif http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/yoststandfo3.gif/1/w735.png This one show's Ned's last stand.
  20. Didn't Macha and Kendall not get along so well the last time they were together? As much as I agree with Kendall getting some rest, an alarm went off in my head when I read that quote.
  21. I DVR'd it with TWC. All I got was the hoops game. That was what FSN-WI decided to broadcast, not an error by DTV. At the end the Tennessee coach was given some plaque so it must have been some important number game. (I fast forwarded through the whole thing wiating for it to break back into baseball. It never did)
  22. How would I be able to parse the media guide while at the park if it's in a digital foramt?
  23. How many of Braun's HRs were off leftys that made Prince's at bat that much tougher? Maybe the RHP that just gave up a HR to Braun really bore down and pitched extremely well against Prince.
  24. I have a question about Arby elgible players I thought I'd put in this thread. Let's say there's a young arby player in his 3rd year in the bigs that has to accept arbitration. The two sides can't come to an agreement and it looks like it will head to a hearing. Is it possible for the team that controls him to trade him? The team controls him, but he is not really under contract. I don't know why a team would do that, but was just wondering if it's possible.
