  1. I think it's clear that Braun has been spending too much time on the phone with other GM's trying to get that last piece.
  2. It is also hard to judge without hindsight when a player's peak is high or low. It now looks like Hall's high was in 06, but he was being bounced around in the lineup and between positions. It was possible he would become a better hitter (or at least flatline) for several years if he was put into a single lineup spot and position in the field. Using this logic, DM should have traded Braun and Prince after they had those great 07 seasons.
  3. Maybe he wants out of Toronto, or the contract all together? Accepting the trade to Milwaukee would allow him to nullify the trade this off season. He gets out of Toronto (and away from the AL East) and into a new contract a year earlier (and younger). I could see why he would waive his NTC but still void out the contract. (I don't see Milwaukee doing the trade, just commenting about Halladay's view of a rumored trade) I think McGehee and Counsell have done great. The problem was Hall becoming the greatest 3B in the league and Rickie getting hurt, so we think of those two as starters and not late inning hitters. So our 2nd string bench isn't as good as last year's bench. And who could have said that Kapler (in a pre-2008 mindset) was better than Nelson (in a pre-2009 mindset)?
  4. Players on the 60-day DL do not count towards the 40 man roster. MLB.coms list those guys because fans still want to see them and realize how many or few guys are injured. So 41 - Weeks - Riske - Lopez is the 38 that BF.net lists. So we still have one more spot open on the 40.
  5. I agree that the team can easily afford Hardy in '10. Hall, Suppan, and others will also recieve raises. So you'll continue to see a bullpen and backup starters made of McClungs and AAA fill ins. It's not that the team can't afford Hardy, it's that the franchise might be better suited using that money to pay for an arm.
  6. By my count, the Brewers/Pilots franchise is now 9-31-1 in ALGs.
  7. This might also be used to create baserunning stats. We can watchthe 2nd runner scoring. I'm sure smarter people would be able to come up with a way to measure their running statistically.
  8. What I meant is that their players would become FA and available for other teams to sign. That would be a great way to implode the team, have A-Ram, Fuk-U, D-Lee, etc go to other teams.
  9. Brewerfan.net's salary page! The gray boxes mean we control the player that year, but the current contract does not extend to that season. It can also be used to remind you that Bill Hall is the 4th highest paid Brewer this year.
  10. My dreams: A. This null and voids any contracts the company has signed. This would make every player an instant free agent. B. MLB should step into bankruptcy court and offer to buy the team. They can then have the people running the Nats run the Cubs, or merge the teams. This could be so cool, but I know it won't happen.
  11. I think this thread is to repudiate the thread in the Trade Rumors forum asking to see what we could get if we trade Prince now or this off season.
  12. I believe the runner can go back and physically stand on 2nd base. He is not automatically out. He may be forced out at 3rd or the runner from first may be tagged out even though he is also physically on 2nd base. The base does not become a safe haven from being put out unless the preceding runner has abandoned it and has not returned. The runner from first could also become automatically out if he passes or touches the runner from second. So it's a bad idea to run back to 2nd since it makes it easy for the defense to record an out at either base, but a runner is free to do so. As long as the runner from first did not pass or touch the runner from second, the ump made the right call.
  13. First, there's no moves to be made without overpaying. Melvin is choosing to stay competitive for years instead of making one push this year. Since Braun, Fielder, and Gallardo are under contract for next year, we can expect another push then. Second, I think people have impossible expectations from starting to relief pitching. We dont' have great starters, but they are the best we could get this year. Relief pitching will always give up runs sometimes. It's infuriating when the home team gives up 4 runs late in the game, but we forget that this offense has done the same to other teams.
  14. It's clear that Acta couldn't manage the great team that was built in DC. Of course, we got rid of Lopez when it was clear we didn't have much talent. It might be a similar situation of showing the fans that you're going to start rebuilding the team correctly.
  15. What would happen if the only rep from a team (who happens to be a pitcher) begged off because of injury or unavailability to pitch? Would they still pick anyone from the league, or would they be forced to get the 2nd best pither on that team to make sure that team is represented? Congrats to Hoffman. In a Brewer-selfish way, I hope he isn't used.
  16. Super Brewer is the guy at MP that is dressed as a superhero in blue and gold. At least, that's what all my friends call him.
  17. Who are ranked 29 and 30?
  18. I think I saw him leaving the bleachers last homestand. I don't remember off hand because I never make a note of seeing him. But I have missed Super Brewer. Anyone know if he's still around?
  19. I'm constantly having to watch out from being run over by adults and kids to get bp balls, warm up balls, and hrs. I also have problems with seat hoppers sitting in my row. "Professional" ballhogs just don't leave a good taste in my mouth.
  20. I think the situation is bad form from both sides. But I thought this is a great idea: http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/4290/prode.jpg
  21. I got two new 3 year old girl cats living at home now. We adopted them from a family that could no longer have cats in the household now that they've moved. There is only one problem, the family is from Chicago so the names will have to change. http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/3687/1001383g.th.jpg This is Cubbie. 100% has to get a new name. http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/1752/1001382.th.jpg This is Soxie. Would like to change the name, but Socksie isn't so bad. We are both nerds and both love baseball, but want to keep female names for them. Any suggestions? So far I've thought of Zelda.
  22. As someone who doesn't follow soccer, could you explain how the European leagues deal with this problem?
  23. College players would never get picked. Teams will just use their picks to sit on all of the HS players. It already takes several years to reach the majors, there would be an eternity between drafting a guy and seeing him play for your team. Also, I think Colby would be overwhelmed keeping track of all of the college players we've drafted in the last 4 years http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Here's what I see: Gamel stays in the majors and starts 1-2 games a week and ph: Doesn't get much better this year. Enters arbitration in 2011. Gamel stays in the majors and starts 4-6 games a week: Develops with regular playing time. Enters arbitration in 2011. Gamel goes down to Nashville before the trading deadline: Develops with regular playing time. Enters arbitration in 2012. To me, the first option is the worst option unless the Brewers plan on trading him before arbitration.
