  1. I didn't see the implosion. Was he actually throwing the breaking ball, or was it a steady diet of fastballs?
  2. Sorry Invader - I think it's more likely that the moon is, in fact, made of green cheese than that Bonds didn't use steroids. I'll stick to my guns on this one, and if I'm ever proven wrong, Barry can whack me over the head with a Louisville Slugger. As an aside, taking a cursory look at the Giants' individual numbers, there are a lot of other guys I'd rather see Ohka bean than Bonds.
  3. You're right Joe, it's a matter of perspective. I'm sure the post wasn't too aggressive, but I'm equally sure it's an incredibly tired thing for them to have to hear from opposing fans. Everybody, including SF fans, knows Bonds used steroids like they were going out of style (which, by decree of Bud, they soon would). Time to move on to the next subject - how about the Giant-sized @sskicking they suffered at the Crew's hands last night? If they ban you for that too, then I agree, they're too sensitive.
  4. "I don't think he's worth 4.5M, and I would have liked to see him dealt in the offseason" If he's injured for half the year, he's probably not worth $4.5M. Then again, if he maintains that 3.18 ERA over half a year, he's a bargain compared with the top free agent signings of last year's offseason, even in limited duty. I think the bar has been set a little too high for our #4 starter's return. I understand why people have been salivating for it for months, given how crappy the various replacements performed, but I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Ben Sheets is the ace who is returning, not Ohka. Typically this guy alternated good and bad starts, and won slightly more than half his games. If he stays healthy and does that for the rest of the year, I think he's holding up his end of the bargain. That said, it would be REALLY nice to string together a road winning streak, wouldn't it? Give 'em hell, Ohka.
  5. I hate Omar Vizquel. What's the combined age of he, Bonds, and Alou, like 200?
  6. Shaping up to be a perfect game to get Turnbow an inning of stress free work.
  7. Hey Canada, stick it where the sun don't shine. As I said, it breaks my heart. Anyone gloating about a tough Brewer loss doesn't belong on this board. At minimum, horrible choice of words on your part. My point is that, while the future is very bright, this team is pretty clearly a year or two away. Feel free to disagree, but don't question my loyalty to the Crew, especially after what I just had to stomach.
  8. This ain't a playoff team. Breaks my heart to say it, but let's call a spade a spade.
  9. Interesting decision to throw Davis instead of Cappy out of the break. Given that it keeps DD on four days rest, and allows the Crew to match Cappy against their ace, I like it.
  10. "You can't? I thought the game counted, and the old rules didn't apply, anymore." Hey, I like Andruw Jones, but he wasn't going to replace both Bay and Holliday at the same time. These guys are both good young hitters, but I think you can flip a coin between them. Given that the game was played in Pittsburgh, you give the nod to Bay to stay in, and replace Holliday with Jones. I'm not saying this definitively cost the NL the ballgame, but how do you have Jones on your roster and not get him into the game? Especially in the late innings, protecting a one-run lead?
  11. You can't fault Garner for sticking with Bay in his home park, but giving Holliday 3 ABs and Andruw Jones zero is criminal. As little actual 'managing' as there is to be done in an all-star game, Garner still gets an F for the night, for the mishandling of his bats off the bench. Can't argue with Hoffman to close though, especially if the other choices were Turnbow and Gordon.
  12. No home field advantage this year? Oh well, might as well trade Lee now.
  13. Ground rule double Steve, tough to fault Carlos.
  14. Nice use of Lee as a defensive replacement. Garner is a genius.
  15. Does Carlos "get" to hit vs. Santana?
  16. Well, this looks familiar.
  17. Time to work on the breaking ball, baby.
  18. "Now I won't have to go home and beat the moeller out of my wife" "I can't think of any context that would make that funny." Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, I think it's solid gold. Missed it the first time around, thanks for the reset, Canada.
  19. I've been critical of Ned this year, but that worked out well, gotta tip my cap to running Hall and staying out of the double play.
  20. Question - If Weeks gloves that backhand, does he throw it away?
  21. The Royals are hostages of the Crew tonight, baby. And this one won't end peacefully for the home team.
  22. I'm getting the Royals feed tonight. They have a cute blond in the booth right now getting some serious face time. Can't we replace Coshun with one of those?
  23. I was terrified of Stairs there. Nice result. Let's score three every inning, just to be safe.
  24. I've got some buddies that made the roadie for the weekend series. Wish I was with them, eating good steak and barbecue and pounding beers, instead of sitting at the office. This is a huge road trip, vis a vis determining the Brewers contender/pretender (and buyer/seller) status, and this series sets the tone. Anything less than two wins would be unacceptable, and though you cannot presume a sweep against anyone, even one loss would be tough to swallow. Scary to rely on Bush for a road win, but he has to at least battle and get to the pen in a position that gives the Crew a shot.
  25. I know I'm about five pages late, but the most telling thing about the Moeller/Miller defensive stat line is that they've both surrendered a roughly equal number of stolen bases, with Miller catching at least 2/3 of the time. Sorry, I've been in meetings all day, but when I saw another pitcher had tallied an RBI against Milwaukee, I had to log on here and make sure people were adequately incensed. Check.
