Marquis is a legit big league starter, but he isn't a 2.93 ERA guy. No time like the present to bring him back down to Earth...

Alright Claudio, pretty simple proposition. Give us a quality start tonight, or in five days the Brewers' starting pitcher is going to be named Gallardo. That probably sounds harsh, but I think it's the truth.

Although that was a collective tank job by the bully, for some reason I feel compelled to focus my ire on Turnbow. The next time he knows going into an inning that he's not going to throw a slider to anyone, would be nice if he'd go ahead and let Castro know that, so they could get somebody up in advance.

That's why Shouse makes the big bucks.

Who's up in the pen to pitch to Jones??? Somebody listening to the game help a brother out here.
  6. Lil Dummy
Alright, now strike out McCann and Jones, and Cordero will be set for the ninth.

Get out there and do your job, Maddux.

Falling behind every hitter 2-0 and then throwing a fastball right down the pipe is not a good long-range strategy. I'd take any other arm in the pen right now, given the option.

Let's hang a loss on Hudson here boys.

Totally agree, 00. Richard Weeks deserves a day of rest and quiet contemplation today.

I expected the Brewers' offense to come home and settle into a groove yesterday. The fact that they didn't makes me no less confident that they'll break out tonight. I don't care if they're facing Smoltz, Clemens, or Cy Young in his prime, this is too good a group of hitters to keep down for long. I'd be disappointed if Sheets needed to be perfect tonight; I think if he turns in any kind of quality start (and possibly even if he doesn't), this is a win for the Crew.

Great post, Rah Rah. These threads have gotten to the point where they write themselves. Nobody is even listening to anybody else (which would be too bad, if anyone else had anything new to say). For those Badger fans on the board, the "Is Sheets an Ace?" debate is the equivalent of Bollinger vs. Sorgi, with the added gloomy knowledge that Sheets isn't graduating this fall.

"Odd seeing Spurling with an ERA almost 1.50 lower than Turnbow." Get used to it.
  14. Lil Dummy
Boy, that's a nice win. Kudos to Sheets, Yost, Gross as others have said. Um, Coco too.

Michael "Bourn Identity" in to pinch run...

I really, really hate Pat Burrell.

Gamecast says Gwynn flied out to "deep right". Was it close?

"If that wasn't an "ace-like" performance by Sheets today, I don't know what is." It was. Which is convenient, since he's our ace. In other news, I did a solid job of Project Managing today. So Ben and I both earned our paychecks. Now if I could only get him to switch with me.

    Let's go, ToJu!!

Good to see the "Overly Defensive Nerds for Sheets" crew representing here today.
  21. Lil Dummy
Tough calls for Nedley. Even if Sheets lasts the 8th, we've got a "rusty" Cordero in the 9th. Aye caramba!!
  22. Lil Dummy
    No Turnbow. Please Jesus.
  23. Lil Dummy
"They sure haven't shown me that they can do anything with Sheets' heater today." Safe to assume you were knocking on wood as you typed this?
  24. Lil Dummy
"If Gross would have done that today instead of Gwynn, everyone would be demanding he go down to AAA." I'm still demanding that he goes down to AAA, unless they can trade Mench. Gabe deserves regular playing time somewhere, and he's not going to get it as our 6th outfielder. His time will come, but barring an injury or a trade, it won't come in '07.

Memo to Doug Melvin - Call up Gross from Nashville the next time the Crew faces Freddy Garcia.
