  1. Can Counsell get on base to lead off? If so, could be a fruitful inning.
  2. "do we pinch-hit for gross at his next AB?" If they bring in a lefty, go ahead and edit the blue font to black.
  3. "Not sure I agree with taking a struggling Billy Hall and putting him in the 3 hole." I thought my post was clear, putting him ahead of Fielder in the lineup will ensure that he gets good pitches to hit. Getting good pitches to hit, theoretically, may help get his bat on track. By the same rationale, I'd be fine with a lineup that leads off w/ Gwynn and bumps Weeks into the three hole. Either way, with Hardy raking the way he is, I don't like Fielder right behind him. Let's give our best hitter some baserunners to work with. (Of course, you can make the argument that Hardy will get less to hit with Hall behind him, and his performance may suffer. That'd be a risk I'm willing to take. For one, I think he's got a better eye than either Weeks or Hall, and would do a better job laying off of junk.)
  4. I agree with keeping Hardy in the two spot. My tweak would be flipping Fielder and Hall. Get Billy a steady diet of fastballs to hit. As for ToJu at the top of the order - yes, please.
  5. "You do realize he hasn't been "missing". Right? He's been dominating every since the 2 games after Opening Day (when he was also dominating.)" I like Ben Sheets. I really do. I just don't understand the people who act like somebody insulted their mother when a question is raised about Sheets' performance. He's been pretty good this year. 3-2 with a 4.10 ERA and average strikeout totals. Those obviously aren't "ace" numbers (more like a #3 starter on a good team), but they're not bad either. Would I have signed up for that at this point in the season if you'd asked me in March? Probably, if for no other reason than knowing that he'd still be healthy. I can tell you that I was at Shea last Saturday, and Ben Sheets certainly didn't dominate. Dominating is what Hamels did to the Crew last night. Staked to a similar early lead, I thought Sheets MIGHT dominate, but he kind of crumbled in the fifth. Gutted out another inning and left with a 4-3 lead. That game was a white-knuckler until the 8th, when the Crew's bats broke it open. In retrospect, thank God they did, given how Turnbow has struggled on this trip. The funny thing about Ben Sheets is that he's got a golden arm, so every time his turn comes up in the rotation, you have a "hope springs eternal" moment where you fantasize about a command performance. At least those of us who were in the house for his 18 K game a few years ago do. We'll see if Sheets can be a stopper today. Would sure make the plane ride back to Beertown a lot more fun.
  6. "My prediction: 6-4, Hart HR, Soup goes 7, Turnbow with a clean hold." Turnbow has taken the loss on back to back nights. He'd better not get in the game tonight - particularly if we're holding a slim lead in the 8th inning. A fourth straight loss would be depressing enough without also having to read the story about Turnbow committing suicide.
  7. "moyer is one of these pitchers that really worry me...the guy who is a soft tossing lefty pitcher that throws 75 that can get you out." True. Oh wait, Jenkins isn't in the lineup. We should be OK. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Welcome back, Woogie.
  8. Ollie, you'll forgive me for not being excited when I see both Graffy and Counsell in the same starting lineup. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Saturday was the last time we'll put up a 12 spot this year with both halves of our 3B platoon starting.
  9. "I love the comparison to the 1991 Braves." I'd like to think that in Milwaukee, people would actually show up for the playoff games.
  10. My Brewer Fever is flaring up with the off-day today. Man, when the Crew is hot, I wish they had a game every day. Then again, they couldn't be going any better than they are. Maybe I should just sit back and savor the fact that there's no way they'll see their winning streak snapped tonight...
  11. I'll be there for all three, Norm. The Mets have a very good team, but I hope to see a few wins this weekend.
  12. Anyone else feel like Vargas is due to get absolutely tattooed? Hope I'm wrong, but I think the only way the Crew sweeps is by winning a slugfest, and getting some timely relief work from our man Elmer.
  13. "I don't know how much this was discussed in this IGT, but it does look like the Bush "big inning" struck again. I noticed it a little in the 6th with those two hard hit balls and a four pitch walk, and then obviously in the 7th." So you noticed the "Bush big inning" in the 6th, when he threw a scoreless frame? Let's not overthink this. When Bush hits 80-90 pitches, he starts running out of gas. I think Yost REALLY wanted to get him through seven last night, so he could use Wiser in the 8th and Turnbow in the 9th. However, wanting something to be does not make it so. Wise should have been up in the pen when the inning started. Nothing like almost getting burned with an identical mistake twice in the space of a week, Ned. The bizarre misplay by Gross didn't help, of course. Fortunately, all's well that ends well. Cordero deserves to spend the day today at the beach, or laying in bed.
  14. "didn't Simontacchi play for Italy in the World Baseball Cup? Or was that the Olympics I'm thinking of?" Actually, pretty sure it was the Special Olympics. Sorry, that's terrible, the guy will probably pitch a perfect game now.
  15. "The Nats do not have Cordero for the rest of the series" I think we all know what's coming here - Winston Abreu will dominate the Crew's bats tonight and/or tomorrow out of the 'pen. Hopefully by that point we'll have a sizeable lead.
  16. I don't get the hate for Bush. He pitched six solid innings last week, ran out of gas, and Yost opted not to bail him out (likely because he had burned up 7th inning stalwart Matt Wise the night before). It could have worked out, but it didn't. Memo to Ned - don't let Dave Bush throw 111 pitches tonight, unless he's working on a CG shutout and we have a big lead in the 9th. And maybe not even then. My spidey sense says that Vargas gets tattood tomorrow, so here's to a victory tonight and another series won.
  17. Impressive numbers, by and large, from the Nats bullpen. In a lot of ways, they remind of some Brewer teams in recent history! Obviously anything could happen in these three games, including a Nats sweep, but I think we're all getting greedy for wins at this point, and expecting good things. Roughly 1/5 of the way through the season, it's amazing how consistent this Brewer team has been, showing up ready to play every day, winning the games they should win. Here's to another pleasant series, and plenty of work for Dessens and Spurling via some comfortable leads...
  18. Winning streak? Yes, please. The Crew, back on the good foot. Why? Cause Pittsburgh blows.
  19. When Sheets' curveball is working, he's just filthy. Absolutely among the best pitchers in baseball. If the Crew could get a steady diet of that this summer, it'd be a lot easier to keep the rest of the Central solidly in the rear view.
  20. One more prediction - if Sheets takes the loss tonight for whatever reason, some deranged madman in a Capuano jersey will try to assassinate him between now and his next start.
  21. My gut says neither pitcher is lights out tonight. Looper is due for a letdown, and I think I'd actually lay greater than 50/50 odds that Pujols takes Sheets deep tonight - hopefully with nobody on. Here's to Ben settling down after a shaky first and gutting out seven strong innings in an, ummm, let's say... 6-3 Brewers win.
  22. "Braden Looper: Ace??? This would be a good time for him to start his precipitous regression to the mean." Amen, brother. Same way I felt about facing "Cy" Hill and the Cubs last week. This ain't gonna last; we might as well be the team that rains on his parade.
  23. "Also, I've long referred to Ben Sheets as Golden Ben (as in gold medalist). I suggested that on this site once but it didn't catch on." Golden Ben makes it sound like he's 75 years old. I think it didn't catch on for a reason.
  24. Silver lining, as noted, is we'll probably get to see Yo pitch in the bigs. That said, hurry back Sheeter.
