  1. Amen Blazer...of all the possibilities for our pick...the only one that scares me is tulo.
  2. I would have no problem if the Brewers went with Bruce. I liked what I saw...a lot. I think his upside is huge....maybe not Maybin huge but I like it.
  3. Well if I was picking my preference list would be Upton Gordon Maybin Bruce Tulo Zimmerman I just watched the Bruce video at MLB.com and came away impressed. If we ended up with either of the stud prep outfielders I'd be more than happy. I'm liking how this draft is shaping up as we are going to get a very good player at 5 that fits our system nicely. Can't wait.
  4. Huntsvillefan, I know exactly how you feel. I was so glad to see Money leave Beloit. Too many times he blew perfect chances and opted for the sacrifice. His obsession with the bunt and stealing was killing me. One moment that I love was during one game the Snappers got a guy on first...can't remember whom....I yell out "No! Don't steal!" Money whips around and looks directly at me. Sure enough the runner goes on 1st pitch and is nailed by a few feet. I don't mind the steal, but when you start to get a pattern that casual fans like me can figure out. It gets bad. And to bunt away outs all the time is nuts.
  5. How much would it cost to have a camp in Canada? Sorta like the Latin camps. You could start a camp up there and then maybe send some of the Latin youngsters signed up there as well as the Canadian draftees and have enough people to make it worthwhile almost. Like a second spring training home. Can you even do that? Just some food for thought.
  6. Thanks for the kind words folks. It's still a work in progress and any suggestions/comments would be appreciated. As for the Nelson line...it was from 4/8...not the 12th. In the article it's listed as 4/8 as well. The Huntsville line for the 4th best performance went to Dana Eveland on the 12th. 4/12 Dana Eveland 5 ip, 3 h, 2 bb, 6 k Not sure how that got mixed up, it's correct on my computer. Anyways thanks for the heads up on the misprint. Michael
  7. Looks like Hurricane had 3 sb's...one of them stealing home.
  8. I agree...I wouldn't mind a copy as well. Michael
  9. That could be the best Non-colbyjack graphic I've seen in a long time. West Virginia...keep this up and I'll stop "pouting" about taking my Snappers. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. I have no problem with best available. While it would be great to take a C or 3B but if the scouting staff honestly thinks that a HS OF is the better pick over a college C or 3B then I'm fine with that. It won't disappoint me to see a need filled but I won't be heart broken if it is not. The drafting department under Jack Z has a pretty good track record so far and I'm inclined to trust them until proven wrong.
  11. Thanks for the heads up Patrick. Kind of a less than exciting first pa for Clement by being hit in back on first pitch. Hopefully we can see some fireworks as that is why I'm tuning in. That and it's baseball and I'm dying to get a fix.
  12. I'm glad Rich got a "promotion" as his work is top notch. I'm also glad to see Money move up to Huntsville...if only for the fact I don't have to watch him manage a game in Beloit. I hope his work with the young hitters is what keeps him around...that and his name/affiliation with the Brewers past.
  13. I have to concur with my staff mates. The hoodie kicks butt. One of my fav shirts now. Ultra comfortable.
  14. While I can agree with you carolinatommy that scouting can seem archaic, but really everything a scout does is intuitive. Two people can look at one player and assess his arm, speed, power, etc differently while both seeing the same thing. You can watch a pitcher throw and both have different readings on the gun. So that is why a good scout is important. After watching thousands of players you can just see the differences from one player to the next and realize the gamer. You can recall seeing Ben Sheets throw in college and see a similar fastball in Joe Schmoe who is pitching at a HS in Montana. It's imperfect, but so is almost everything a human being does. I like scouting and finding of gems. If scouting was perfect then the best player would get drafted in slot 1, second best in slot 2, etc. You'd have not busts and no sleepers and it would be boring.
  15. I voted Dave and the results as of now...Krynzel 47%, Brosius in 2nd with 42%...Jim has it right with c'mon.
  16. Looks like he got a major league deal out of it too. At the end of Patrick's link there was a note that a roster move would be pending once official.
  17. It's a simple question...does he want to be a student or does he want to be a professional baseball player? If you don't get the deal from the O's to your liking then go back to school and go into the draft the following year. With the amount of money he's looking at securing taking a couple of credits to work towards that degree is a weak, weak argument...bargaining ploy is all it is.
  18. Joe, He doesn't have to waste a semester if he doesn't want to. If the Orioles are low balling him then go back to school when the semester starts and get drafted again next June as a senior. If school is the most important thing then go back. Basically he wanted to wait out the O's so that they can give him more than what the Orioles felt he was worth. Can't have your cake and eat it too in this situation.
  19. Forgot to mention: Funny thing happened on Lewis's double. He hit down the 3rd baseline right over the bag....everyone thought it was foul...everyone had stopped including Lewis but the ump stood up and without a word put out his right hand signaling fair. One Beloit reliever was already up and after the "foul ball". So Will takes off and the Peoria defense gets bustling....Will ended up with a double that could have easily been a triple plus. Funny moment though as everyone but the ump thought it was foul. Also stayed tuned as I took some photos of Vinny pitching that I will ship off in a minute to Brian to hopefully post here. Tale of the game...Beloit leaves 14 on base. Kind of a theme these past few weeks. *sigh*
  20. Matt is correct. Vinny played every single position today in the field. He didn't look the best out there on the mound or at short. He had a heck of a fastball and gave Cardinals top prospect Daric Barton a run for his money before inducing an inning ending ground out. Another interesting thing almost happened with Vinny at 2nd, Lewis at SS and Campana at 3rd. Runners on 1st and 2nd and the shortstop #33 hitting. Grounder to 3rd..Campana touches, throws to 2nd....Lewis the relay to 1st...just missed the triple play by a half a step. If the batter had only hit it a little bit harder would have been. Scary moment in the top of the 10th I believe. Foul ball left field. Drew comes racing over to make a patented diving catch. His knee hits the ground...digs in...leaves a huge divot...Drew falls on his face and in doing so gets whacked right on the melon. Very scary moment. It was a fun game in that Vinny played everywhere, got to see Manual Ramirez at 3rd and catcher, Lewis at SS, etc. I'm very glad I made it today. I was very impressed with Manual's arm at 3rd...very strong arm. That goes the same for Vinny as his arm is top notch there. Maybe a future position. Peoria should not have scored a run in the top of the 11th as the runner was on 2nd and the ball was hit to Deevers in right....Deevers coming in went to scoop up the ball and fire home but dropped the ball....twice. Would have easily stopped the runner at 3rd as Robby's arm is second to none. Truffles reached 3rd in the ninth only after Corporan had two strikes and 2 out. Little chance at that point. Plus Corp. was batting righty at the time and I think he prefers lefty. Hernan with another decent game at DH. Just continues to smack it everywhere. I really wish they would have won this game and even better if Corp. would have driven in Truffles so Vinny could get the win. Ah well...good luck next year Snappers and all former Snappers.
  21. Not sure what my problem was....last night I registered...logged in....then went through main page to vote and it said I couldn't post, reply, vote in polls etc. I came back today and logged in again and everything was fine and I voted.
  22. I would like to vote if only I could figure out how. I registered but it says I cannot vote in online polls. Why not?
  23. Mitch Stetter baby....about time Don let him do his Stetter-step in the starting rotation. The thing I like about Mitch, aside from being a tall lefty, is that he challenges hitters early and is not afraid to throw inside on lefties. Nothing better than watching him throw his hellacious bender right at a lefty hitter, watching them jump back and seeing the pitch bust right in there for a strike.
  24. Snappers lose to Lansing 4-3... Carlos Villanueva with the start...shaky beginning and he was lucky to escape with only 3 runs scored. Deevers dropped an easy fly ball....Dopirak up next mashes an opposite field homer. Next batter...2nd baseman hits a shot to center. Villanueva gave up a few more hits but escaped. Bottom of 1st Truffles leads off with a well hit ball to right center....comes around 2nd...only problem...ball was almost to the infield already..nailed going for third. Heether smashed a double and my boy Stevie Moss doubled him in. Rottino smashed a 2-run shot to left in the bottom of the 8th during the downpour. Rain started around the 7th inning...suprised they didn't call a delay...played on. By the time the bottom of the 8th came it was really, really coming down and they still played. It was pretty cool watching the Rottino dinger sail out in a downpour. Tale of the night: bad calls. Truffles thrown out at second on a steal attempt. Looked like Terry was in there...ball a bit high and Terry was really low on his slide, but ump said he got the tag in there.. Vinny had a single...Heether ground into a sure double play to short...2 bagger bobbles it and drops it....Vinny called out at 2nd. I believe this was the inning where we had bases loaded with one out and couldn't score. Heether incidently was on 3rd so take that for what it's worth. Nice play in the field by Heether...snags a ball and fires...nails the runner by about a step...ump said Vinny's foot was pulled off...on a bullet right at him...Diggs who was coaching ran out there and ended up getting tossed. Moreira didn't look so hot. First batter gets on...next batter hits a slow one to him...he turns for the double play...ball goes about 20 feet in the air into center. Plus control was a bit of an issue as well. Deevers sucks...he ended the bases loaded by getting out I believe looking, also last batter of the game...two runners on, down by one with Guilder pinch running standing on second.....what does one do...swing as hard as possible of course and Robbie DEEveRs strikes out, once again looking. I never thought that I would be calling for a Josh Murray pinch hit attempt until the 9th inning tonight when Robbie strode up there. Heether looks great defensively at 3rd. A real treat to watch. He made a great diving attempt to his right and managed to get up and fire the runner out. Dopirak for Lansing is fun to watch as well. The dude just kills it. He is probably my "sure fire to make it" player this year in the MWL out of all the players I've seen play...that includes the All-Star game folks. All you can eat night at the park and a fun time. If you've never been there...try it out.
  25. What a hot day for baseball. Man it was warm waiting in line for those darn bobbles. Drew Anderson baby...I've been pimping him a long time now. Don't look now but he's batting a robust .296 and still moving up. Heether had a great double that was ripped down the left field line. Nice hit. Murray, murray, murray....I agree with Jim's assessment if Lewis can play short at all. Screwup in the first. Runner on first with 2 outs. Steals...Eveland picks him off...throw to second where Murray was waiting for the easy out....Guilder runs into Murray trying to make the play not knowing Murray was standing on second. Knocks Murray and ball off bag guy safe with a steal. Guy scores next play on easy rbi single. Eveland was flat bringing it. K'ing everyone left and right...fun to watch. Enjoy him in Huntsville next year...hopefully. Jim made a mention of Moss's non rbi groundout....not sure who's fault it was but Heether was on third after the opening double....should have been running on that play and most likely would have made it...but didn't and Moss grounds out. Great day, great crowd (3100+), plus kids run the bases after the game....Eveland deserved so much better. Michael
