  1. I saw a similar program a few years back and it blew my mind that maraschino cherries are actually white.
  2. Going by the clues we have...piano intro...dude singing...something with hold on...possibly mistaken for Van Halen...I'm voting for Toto-Hold The Line
  3. I used to be about trading picks...I think I'm against it now. It is different in football where the picks pretty much play right away and you can use that pick to fill a hole on your team. I would like to see an international draft, hard slotting system. Teams control the players rights for 4 years. Rights can be traded after 1 year. If a player who was drafted say 15th in the 1st round doesn't sign...eventually signs after 3 years...he would get the average of the slotting dollars from when he was drafted and the slot value at 15 for that year. I just think bonuses are getting pretty ridiculous for the amount of risk there is with minor leaguers. I'm also on record as saying baseball needs a cap and a floor, but that should be another thread.
  4. Thanks for that season ticket info for BC, Jim. That is actually a heck of a deal and better then a lot of season ticket plans I've seen for other minor league teams. You get quite a bit for your package. I have never heard of tickets to road games as well. On field batting practice too. Very nice.
  5. I'm bugged by people that have no texting protocol...send a message...wait for a response...don't send 7 messages on 7 different topics.
  6. I understand your point on Culvers burgers being dry. I would argue that is restaurant specific since nearly all my experiences have been top notch burgers...occassionally you get a bad batch but that is the case at any restaurant.
  7. This thread made me have to revisit In n Out last night for dinner. The burger is pretty good...still not butter burger worthy. The fries still suck if you don't get it animal style. I believe Culver's uses an orange and white mix for their curds which I enjoy.
  8. Culver's fries are serviceable. The fact that you can get cheese curds pretty much is a guaranteed winner in my book. In and Out fries suck. You have to get them animal style to get them down. I know much is made about the fact they take a potato and slice it there and its fresh and natural and pretty much everything else I dislike about California. Straight up I would take McD fries every time. That should say something. Bacon butterburger deluxe with cheese curds. I can't get home soon enough.
  9. Why did you go and have to mention Culvers? The butter burger is probably my fav on that list. I wish they had one out here in Cali. I say this with an In and Out burger 10 minutes away.
  10. Helena wins 9-6 after a crazy 10th inning. Baby Crew puts up 5 in the top and gives back 2 in the bottom of the 10th. Jim will make it look pretty with the box score and recap. Fiers looking good in relief. Prince with another steal.
  11. That is a classic Pittsburgh article. PNC Park is the only place where the citizens of Pittsburgh leave the team alone.
  12. The age limit on the Power 50 is an interesting discussion. While I'm not opposed to seeing it eliminated, I'm not on board for removing it yet. The Heether Rule should be more like the Heether Exception. I'm a big fan of Heether's and have been a proponent of his since I knew him in Beloit. Great guy and definitely an asset to any team. The Power 50 is great because we get a deep look at what is coming to Milwaukee. It also helps those that are not familiar with the minors to get a quick look. Once again the debate of how to rate a prospect comes up. Is it age, ceiling, production, age in relation to league, or what percentage of each? I use a combination in my evaluation and ceiling is a strong factor. Heether is pretty much leveled out and that is fine. The Brewers need people like him, versatile and not a liability at the plate. Strong role players are key to a successful team. If you have an A ball pitcher with number 2 or 3 starter ability that is more valuable to me and thus a better prospect. I'm glad that we have someone like Heether breaking out in AAA and forcing this discussion to take place. Like Toby mentioned, just a few years ago we were debating far too many AAAA players.
  13. Maybe what just happened with the draft is going to move the trade quickly. With college pitching early you would think they would be able to move them up faster than normal (next year) to replace the pitchers getting dealt this year in a trade. It's no secret San Diego wants young pitching back for Peavy.
  14. This is an interesting move to split up the draft like that. I wonder what kind of affect this will have on players who have signability concerns. I mean this gives teams more time to work the phones with prospects and hammer out some ballpark dollar amounts for those prospects that have top of the draft talent that are falling. Not really sure what kind of ratings this will get. Hopefully I can watch it.
  15. Mark Rogers - Long long road for the still youngster. Hope he gets it on track. Would love for this to turn into a first round success. Brad Nelson - Up and down and back up. I'd love for him to be a starter in Milwaukee. I to see guys who have toiled in the system for awhile succeed. Evan Frederickson - With an arm like his, the sky is the limit. Here's hoping he makes the jump in control and that velocity comes back. Angel Salome - This guy keeps producing even though most people count him out. Zach Braddock - It always seemed like I was following this guys starts more then others and have developed a bit of a following. Never have too many lefties.
  16. I'll say third base. I think we could use a stud 3rd baseman in the system. I'm assuming Gamel doesn't stick. I also think that Green isn't a true stud. He'll be solid and there is a lot of usefulness in that. He could probably handle other infield slots if needed. Catching is always a need, but I see a top notch 3 bagger as a luxury we could draft and move as fast as he can through the system unabated. Even a catcher would have competition with Lucroy and Salome at the upper levels. It would be nice if he batted left handed. I don't care as long as he can hit.
  17. I would still take the biggest impact bat regardless of position. 1st baseman would have to be a special bat as I see that as the easiest to fill. I do not disregard defense as worthless. Just better upside with big stick/weak d vs. strong d/weak bat, especially in higher draft picks. I would take the best hitting prospect early as I see that as the safer of the high picks. Since we are picking lower in the 1st round, I would budget the same amount of money on the draft and take a chance on a pitcher (or 2) that fell into rd 2 and 3 due to signability. I would probably continue to do similar to what the Brewers did early this year with taking an impact bat rd 1 and then a bunch of high ceiling pitchers early. Can never have too much pitching.
  18. I don't agree that it takes 3 years to develop a reliever. Maybe three to develop a pitcher. I agree it's different approach to pitching, but not so significant that it requires three years to make the change. Going the other way from a reliever to starter would take longer in that you have to stretch out your workload to go more innings and still be effective. The nice thing about going from a starter to reliever is that you can let it all go as a reliever. Much the same way that you move down the chain defensively from shortstop, to third to first due to the difficulty level of the positions...it's easier to move from a starter to reliever. The more I think about it the more piggybacking makes sense. Limits innings at the lower level while still getting a good amount of work in to learn.
  19. Great debate so far. I'm in the camp that having relief prospects is a good idea, but I'm with Robert and that I'd try to develop as many starters as possible. Starting pitching is so much more valuable then relievers, that has to be factored into a top prospect list. Teams like the Brewers need to develop cheap talent at every position on the field. So if I rank a reliever, he better be exceptional at his job and higher up the chain. I usually take the higher ceiling, lower level starter over a solid, upper level reliever. This is probably one reason I like piggybacking starters at lower level. You get to use more "starters" and see how they throw in longer spurts. Once you get to High-A start stretching out those whom you think will be the better option to start and develop your relievers from there on up.
  20. I'll throw mine out there. 1. Gamel 2. Escobar 3. Jeffress 4. Salome 5. Lawrie 6. Lucroy 7. Green 8. Cain 9. Braddock 10. Odorizzi 11. Gillespie 12. Gindl 13. Aguilar 14. Periard 15. Scarpetta 16. Anundsen 17. Dykstra 18. Lintz 19. Frederickson 20. Brewer
  21. I'm going to hold off on calling it madness till I see and "hear" what he has to say. So who is his top pitching prospect going to be...Frederickson or Hand? Top outfielder Gindl?
  22. I know I'm curious to see how you rank it clancy. Are you going to include comments on your reasoning?
  23. Great timing Patrick. This is an interesting year to do this as once you get to around 10 or so you can have a lot of different permutations that can be justified. I'm very interested to see how this turns out this year.
  24. I liked the idea of adding Perez, but not at the cost he is going to command. Throw in on top of that the loss of draft picks for the Type A status and then it's a definite no-go.
  25. I'm in...I urge everyone to send whatever they can. We all know this site is worth it!
