  1. Greinke has the ability to be one of the top 5 pitchers in the game. Prince, on the other hand, might be the 3rd best 1B in his own division. 1B production is relatively easy to find and replace. Maybe not at Prince's level, but if you can get 80% of Prince at 10% of the price....
  2. Shhh... Russ, don't you know, we can only complain about the backup catchers defense. He really hasn't been that good behind the plate, but I also think a lot of that SB thing is on our pitching staff. Grienke, Yo, and Marcum just do not hold runners on, at all.
  3. Were all three of these deals roughly 5yrs/80-85 million tacked on to start after their final arbitration year is over, so basically the teams own that pitcher for 6 years? Either way, i'm not understanding your math here because all three would have likely received at least 15 million in their final arbitration year without the extensions, so how are you turning their deals from 5yrs/80 million to 5yrs/100 million? Keep in mind, people here are saying that Melvin should offer a similar deal this offseason while Greinke has one year left, jest as Weaver, Felix, and Verlander had. All the deals, other than Weavers, were signed with two years left before FA. So, if you sign a deal, buying out 3 years of FA and 2 years of Arby, it's really (by the 40-60-80 rule), like signing a 4.4 year deal, so 85/4.4 = 19.3M.
  4. my thoughts exactly. i was worried about that happening after we started the road trip blowing a huge lead against the METS. but we rallied back, and despite the loss today, i don't think we should be concerned. the pirates just had a blow up game. no biggie. The only worrisome part for me was the 2 runs against... well... a AAA pitcher, with really only 1 hard hit ball the whole game.
  5. Was at both games yesterday. Had a great time, up until the bottom of the 7th of game 2. Took my Dad, and apparently, we got on FSN a couple times (the old guy in the Fingers shirt with the epic chops is my dad). What a beautiful park, and it's kind of neat, they have about 15 different price points all around the stadium for tickets -- 5 in the upper deck alone (unlike 2 for MP). Ready to go back tonight!
  6. Because they are both 40ish and neither has been healthy for the full season? Risk/Reward. Let someone else pay them 5M each.
  7. My father has decided that we (I'm 32, he's 64) are going to Pittsburgh leaving on Sunday. We plan to go to at least 2 Brewers games, and stay for 3-4 days. I am coming to the wonderful wealth of knowledge that is Brewerfan.net to ask the following: Where should we stay? Are there any places that are "must see"? Any little known hideouts to visit?
  8. Yes, he should be benched. His OPS the last 8 games is now down to about .661. When can we say the "hot streak" is over? Your kind of thinking is why St Louis is starting Corey Patterson. Every Brewers fan should be glad for that. As for Kotsay, bases empty, he's hit .189 this season. ONE EIGHTY NINE. Can one of you "He just knows how to be clutch" guys explain to me why he can't start a rally? His wOBA with guys in scoring position is .308, that's bad. His wOBA in 'high leverage' situations is .275, that's really, really bad.
  9. The ones that piss me off are the ones who assault you before you can even get out of your car. This is becoming much more prevelant in the Uecker and Yount lots, to the point where I had to yell at a guy to get the bleep out of the way so I could open my car door and get out of my car because he was arguing/negotiating with someone who needed tickets BEFORE THEY EVEN LEFT THEIR VEHICLE.
  10. The collapse started before the 2nd half. You should recall they went to Chicago the last weekend of June that year up 7.5 games and had the Cubs ready to go down another game when Ramirez homered in the 9th off of Cordero with 2 out to turn a win into a loss. I remember exactly where I was at that moment and got a sick feeling. That woke the Cubs up. The lead was down to 4.5 by the All Star break it never got any higher.I was at that game at Wrigley. I've never exited a stadium quicker than I did that day. It was my 3rd Brewers road game I'd attended, and the 3rd time Coco Cordero had blown a save (Chicago and St Louis in Sept 2006). The 2007 Meltdown really started with Cordero blowing a save on the road in Texas.Up 3-0 with 2 outs, he went 0-2 on (I believe) 3 straight hitters, and the Rangers scored 4 runs to win. They might've been up by more games than they were that day, but....
  11. Lucroy also broke his finger in ST and wasn't really catching anyone until just before opening day.
  12. Hey, i was as down as anyone on the decision by Doug to make Betancourt the Brewers everyday shortstop this year and his defense is poor, but until his hitting slows down, i actually have no problem with Roenicke putting Yuni out there each game. Obviously he won't keep hitting at this ridiculously good clip, but until that time comes where Betancourt crashes back to earth that the plate, i would keep putting his name on the lineup card because his offense is more than covering for his defensive shortcomings. Betancourt the last week: .269 .286 .423 .709When the Hairston should be starting somewhere, as often as he can handle it the rest of the season. Lopez should be DFA'd tomorrow, he brings nothing to the table, aside from getting to 2b late on double plays and amazing laziness.
  13. I'm pretty sure thats why we got Nyjer Morgan for Cutter Dykstra.
  14. Well, they spent 57% of the league average on wins last year, and won 81 games. If the Brewers had to have a sub 70M payroll this year, that would mean Doug Davis and Dave Bush starting instead of Wolf and Greinke. From 2006-2008: Six clubs have averaged more than 81 wins with payrolls under the league mean of $89.86M. The best of the best was Minnesota (winner of the "doing the most with the least" award), followed by Cleveland, Toronto, Arizona, Milwaukee, and Oakland. All but the Blue Jays made the playoffs once, which probably says as much about Toronto's competition as anything else.
  15. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6861161/corruption-murder-beautiful-game Amazing story over at Grantland on how horrible FIFA really is. Absolutely terrible.
  16. but TTTTTTTTT sounds nothing like "booooooooo"! i was so puzzled as i walked out because i know i heard boooooo. maybe the acoustics distorted it or something. It was definitely a Teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee... although, once you get a few thousand people doing it, I am sure it doesn't sound anything like its supposed to.

  18. You can make a horrible decision and have a good result as well as make a good decision and have a bad result. I don't think you understand that by your statement. By hitting Kotsay 3rd or playing Kotsay over, well, anyone on our bench who can play the OF, RRR is making a horrible decision, meaning that over time, his results will be worse than anyone else who can play the OF.
  19. I just want to make the point that the Brewers were 4 games up in a playoff spot on 8/12/2008. It really hasn't been that long.
  20. No one knows. Hairston is better than 4 guys on the field tonight, and yet, he sits the bench. If he'd been on the team 2 days earlier, I'd imagine he'd be the starting 2B. Or if he couldn't play CF.
  21. 3 lefties in a row means that Morgan will face a LOOGY late in the game, when normally they'd save that for Prince. I just doubt RRR would PH Braun for Kotsay.
  22. What a clownshoes lineup. Hairston is better than 4 guys in the lineup and can't crack it. I do not understand. Lopez is absolutely horrible, and has been for 2 years. I do not understand the fascination with him.
  23. 8 stitches, they have to DL him, right? I mean, c'mon.... As a Friday ticketholder, I'm really hoping for Peralta.
  24. Yes, he's very good at managing to a "Well, duh." bullpen style. The fact is, there are higher leverage situations where KRod could (and IMO, should) be used and won't be, and Loe or Estrada will be. He still has no clue how to make a lineup, and no idea how valuable solid defense and the ability to draw a walk are, as Lopez keeps on starting, despite Hairston being better in all facets of the game.
