  1. Who is this team and what did they do with the Brewers?
  2. More like a full blown Turnbow.
  3. Our pitching (both starting and relief) is not good. We have 1 exceptional starting pitcher, 2 serviceable ones, and 2 quality bullpen arms.
  4. Yelich is the best in baseball at producing an RBI groundout with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs.
  5. This seems to confirm my suspicion that pitching is a bigger problem with the 2022 Brewers than hitting. I do think some of that analysis is a bit over-simplified...there are more nuanced ways to quantify speed and defense.
  6. When I saw the Padres were the trade partner I immediately knew the Brewers were going to get the better end of the deal in terms of value. Preller has to be the worst GM in baseball right now and the Stearns is one of the smartest when it comes to pitching. However, if the Padres make the playoffs at the expense of the Brewers, that is a big knock against the trade due to the Brewers' unquantifiable post-trade slump. But the Cards' black devil magic is out of our control and our pitching has been mediocre this year, so maybe it isn't that big of a deal that 2022 is slipping away while we picked up some pieces for the pitching lab to go to work on.
  7. If you're going to use one stat, wRC+ is the one to use...it already includes hits, walks, and total bases.
  8. Milwaukee doesn't need 2 sports entertainment districts. There's already a great one downtown next to Fiserv that has the benefit of being in close proximity to housing, hotels, other entertainment, etc. If AmFam was built again today it would certainly go somewhere close to that entertainment district as opposed to the current location in the middle of a concrete desert. Building a second district out of thin air next to the existing stadium is not an easy task. Some chain restaurants and a hotel will not make it a destination. There are not many people in the Milwaukee area. The current stadium maximizes attendance with a central location along the freeway that caters to people driving in from outside of Milwaukee. It may not be the best for maximizing revenue but it works for Wisconsin.
  9. Yeah, round 1 of inflation is over. I'm still worried about another energy crisis. It's almost guaranteed for Europe this winter, but even beyond that there is no excess supply anywhere. Any disruption is going to send gas back to $5 or more. The glut of raw materials is a very good thing for easing the housing crisis...interest rates will surely suppress home prices but rental prices are absurdly high right now. It will take a while to build enough new units to make a dent there.
  10. What it means is that the delta between what you have and what you are acquiring is not going to be very big. So you're getting depth or insurance more than an upgrade. Obviously it worked for the Braves last year, but that's because the 110 OPS+ bats that they acquired decided to be 150 OPS+ bats down the stretch and in the playoffs. That just seems like another case of catching lightning in a bottle, similar to the 2018 Brewers.
  11. It makes one wonder if we should be making more trades... ...or maybe we're making the right amount, since it takes two to tango.
  12. Besides the "all-in" for 2011 the Brewers are absolutely crushing it on trade return. The two worst trades of the Stearns era are guys who racked up most of their WAR playing DH in the AL when the NL didn't have a DH.
  13. I found the rankings of WAR returned in trades since 2010 from reddit, so far 12 teams have been analyzed. If there's a reason to cheer for the Padres to fail, it's that they are trying to spend money to cover up a decade worth of moronic transactions. Cleveland Guardians: 87.6 WAR (1.11) Tampa Bay Rays: 59.9 WAR (0.47) Milwaukee Brewers: 34.7 WAR (0.39) Chicago Cubs: 33.1 WAR (0.33) Cincinnati Reds: 21.6 WAR (0.33) Chicago White Sox: -8.3 WAR (-0.12) Pittsburgh Pirates: -9.7 WAR (-0.10) Detroit Tigers: -23.0 WAR (-0.40) Colorado Rockies: -32.8 WAR (-0.52) Seattle Mariners: -54.6 WAR (-0.39) Miami Marlins: -80.6 WAR (-0.88) San Diego Padres: -102.4 WAR (-0.90)
  14. I think that chart is since the all-star break but not sure. For 2022 as a whole the Brewers are 9th in wRC+, 8th in runs/game, 4th in non-weighted OPS. The Brewers basically have a good offense and league average pitching this year. I don't know where the narrative comes from that the offense is holding back pitching, because it's false.
  15. Brewers' offense is 2nd in MLB in WRC+ in the second half. Pitching has been league average. Of course when W/L underperform statistics, it usually means that the bullpen is to blame
  16. I think it's actually a good thing that they are upset because it shows that they want to win. Ultimately it's Counsell's job to get them over it.
  17. The deadline definitely affected the clubhouse but they are going to have to suck it up and deal with it. Most of these players are not going to be here in 2025 and the rest of us don't want to watch a 90-loss Brewers team in three years. To mean, management is acting emboldened to do what they want regardless of the consequences for optics or clubhouse morale or whatever else.
  18. Are we required to get swept at PNC at the most inopportune times? I hate that ballpark.
  19. The Padres benefit from the lack of professional sports competition in San Diego as well as having a fanbase that has put up with losing for a while. In that situation it can be profitable to make splashy signings to get everyone interested in baseball again. There's no evidence that anything they are doing is sustainable. I highly, highly doubt they are going to be the ones to give Soto his $500 million contract. Soto will be on the Mets in 2025.
  20. I don’t know…it’s hard to hate them. The crazy thing is how many stupid signings and trades they have made and yet have doubled down on going “all in”. I think someone on Reddit analyzed their last 10 years of trades and found they were a net -100 WAR or something absurd like that. They seem to have an infinite supply of minor leaguers to give away.
  21. I love how emboldened this front office has become. I think Mark A has given Stearns the green light to do whatever he wants and they no longer even pretend to care about optics. The idea that Doug Melvin would have 'won' this trade deadline is such a joke. He couldn't have won because he would have already blown all of our trade chips trying to win the deadline or the offseason in the last year or two.
