  1. I'll half-jokingly say that nothing we saw today disproved the notion that Hiura can only hit minor league pitching.
  2. YES KESTON THAT'S WHAT I GET FOR SAYING YOUR CAREER IS OVER
  3. The pitchcom thingy is making a huge difference. Look how fast Yajure is throwing here with a runner on 2B. You would never see that in the past.
  4. Hiura's career as a Milwaukee Brewer is essentially over. There's nothing more we can do for him. He's going to be traded, probably sooner rather than later.
  5. Before accepting A I would have reached out to B saying I have an offer in hand and want to see what they can do to speed along the process. My partner was in this situation recently with several companies and the ones that were seriously interested came back with an expedited interview schedule. These days an accepted offer doesn't mean what it used to but it still puts you in a sticky situation if you have to bail on A.
  6. Woodruff decided the outfielders needed more work after not getting any fly balls last night.
  7. One of these is Christian Yelich and the other is Vladimir Guerrero Jr...
  8. It's nice to see Vogelbach having some success in a small sample. He was an easy guy to cheer for and has a better approach at the plate than Tellez (although Tellez clearly has the higher ceiling of the two and was the right one to keep).
  9. I found Hyperion to be mind blowing. I thought the plot wrapped up to a decent stopping point after the second book and I didn't have any interest in reading beyond that. I would say the entire first book is basically background for the second one. The classic one that I couldn't get into was Blindsight, although the concept is fascinating. Now I'm reminded that I need to get back into reading sci-fi...more recommendations please!
  10. My partner and I honeymooned in southeast Asia and spent about 5 days in Bali. We stayed at a resort near Ubud. Highly, highly recommend. The top notch hospitality in SE Asia pairs well with a honeymoon. We also went to 4 or 5 other cities which ended up burning us out by the end of the trip, we wish we would have spent more time in Bali.
  11. I'm so glad Wainwright stuck around long enough to be reduced to a junkballer.
  12. It seems like the light coming through the windows may be causing the Cardinals to play small ball.
  13. Oh man, Pujols had stolen something like 15 bases in a row. He likes to steal one or two per year and hasn't been caught since 2015.
  14. Chris Carpenter has to explain things to his teenager now.
  15. Cutch is currently on pace to surpass JBJ's 2021 hit total on June 15th.
  16. End tanking by implementing a two-tiered promotion/relegation system. I would use around 40 teams including MLB and about 10 teams that are currently AAA. The worst records in MLB go down to the lower league and the best from the lower league get promoted every year. Less revenue sharing in the lower league, so it costs the owners $$ if they don't field a competitive team. More talent is needed for a league of that size, so minor league pay needs to be greatly increased along with significant additional investment in youth and HS baseball. Every team has to play an international series every year. Robo balls/strikes and a strict pitch clock. And by strict I mean strict. Going over the pitch clock needs to be a play that can be challenged and reviewed by the opponent. Scoreboard shows a "gameday" interface which will improve engagement with casual fans at the stadium. Create a set of standards for the 'ideal' baseball game -- runs, K, BB, stolen bases, doubles, triples, HR per game. Adjust rules after every season to aim for those metrics. Need to avoid the current situation where drastic changes are needed to get things back to 'normal' baseball. In extra innings, teams have to play with one less defender every inning. 8 men in the field in the 10th inning, 7 in the 11th inning, etc. Foul bunt on two strikes is not a strikeout until the 2nd or 3rd attempt.
  17. It's too bad but it's understandable given the circumstances. I don't think it was an 'analytics is ruining baseball' type decision, he's coming back from injury and spring training was shortened.
  18. I was initially upset about no day game but Kershaw vs. the Twins is proving to be quality entertainment today.
  19. I think some of this is just typical early April offense, especially with the shortened spring training. The Brewers are 18th in OPS so far in 2022 but 29th in runs scored. So we're unlucky (see our RISP numbers). We'll regress to the mean. MLB as a whole is slashing .232/.310/.373, and that's with the DH added to the NL! Last year MLB ended at .244/.317/.411. So we can expect some improvement as the weather warms. But that said, I think everyone here knows that a league average offense is probably the ceiling for the current group of guys. This isn't a top-10 offense no matter how you arrange it.
  20. Unless the pitch clock is enforced like Giannis' free throw shooting.
  21. In 2021 it wasn't close, statistically. And the eye test would back that up. The Brewers will probably be better this year as well, unless Kelenic and/or Rodriguez have huge years. But I wouldn't count on that from a 22-year-old and 21-year old who are likely still several years away from being impact bats.
