  1. Epic FARTSLAM by the Nats + heads up baserunning by Wong. Good stuff. Suter sets himself up for win #13.
  2. Success is relative. Yelich is adding value to the team. He might not be earning his salary, but he’s not Shaw or Hiura or JBJ.
  3. That looked like the biggest joke to take the field since the Cubs were in town.
  4. Off-topic question...if Giannis decided he wanted to pull an MJ and play baseball, how good would he be two years from now?
  5. 2020 didn't happen as far as I'm concerned. All of their tough conference games are at home. Fans are back. Notre Dame is overrated.
  6. Does anyone have context on a 9-1 road trip? Would that be the best road trip in franchise history? I know they had a 7-0 road trip in 2008 and 2015, but I can't find a longer road trip with 1 loss or less from quickly glancing at some of their best seasons.
  7. Everybody knows the Cards were getting the corners because Yadi was framing the pitches and saying who-knows-what to the umpire when he didn't get the calls. It's total BS, but part of me has to tip my cap for how effective Yadi is at controlling the game... As Nick Castellanos said: "That guy could punch me in the face and I'd still ask him for a signed jersey."
  8. I laugh at the Padres because I knew their empty the minors + spend $200 million strategy would never work, but it is really bad for MLB if the Padres flop and miss the playoffs given the huge fan interest and support in San Diego. Tatis is going to end up stuck on a perennial loser like Mike Trout. It's very bad for the sport.
  9. That run was amazing and does show what can happen in a month. But, I wouldn’t go all the way to saying that the last few games didn’t matter. With two more wins they could have tied the Cardinals and forced another Game 163. Most likely the 2021 Reds will suffer the same fate as the 2019 Brewers -- win like crazy to sneak in the playoffs with an upper-80s win total and suffer a quick elimination. Maybe they will even score a run in the postseason this time!
  10. The Reds are 65-56, so if they lose today, they will be 65-57. 90 wins means 72 losses, so they would need to go 25-15 to end up with 90 wins. That would mean winning 63% of their remaining games, which would be playing slightly worse than San Fran has played this year. Meanwhile, the Brewers would need to go 17-25 to end up at 90-72. That would mean playing slightly better than Pittsburgh has played this year. It is very likely that the Brewers win their division, but I'm in that group that won't celebrate until the magic number is zero. Oh yes, my bad on the math. I do like using the 90-win scenario though because it will be difficult for either the Reds or Brewers to reach 90, much less both of them.
  11. I completely forgot they did that. How many times do you have to fire a hitting coach to get the team to hit is now the question. It's interesting that the Brewers' management did the complete opposite by giving Haines a vote of confidence rather than blame when the offense was last in the league. It's hard to argue with the results of that decision.
  12. It's fair to use IP as a tiebreaker given how close all of the other stats are between Burnes/Buehler/Wheeler. Wheeler has the further advantage of being the one who will likely play in the most meaningful games in September. With the Brewers having the least to play for, our trio is likely to fall further behind in IP. Which is totally fine, as others have mentioned it's all about winning games in October.
  13. If the Reds lose today, they can only lose 11 more games the rest of the season if they want to win 90. We're getting to the point where the Brewers winning the division by less than 5 games is becoming a highly unlikely scenario.
  14. I was just going to post this What the heck happened to them. They are all in too You need the full 40 man roster to win over 162 games. A few key injuries and now they are toast. Trying to be the 2010s-Mariners of the west coast isn’t working out for them.
  15. Yes, if you're going to go with a realistic but pessimistic scenario, the Brewers go 18-25 to win 90 and the Reds go 26-17 to win 90. But time is ticking and the Reds have been losing ground, not gaining it.
  16. Which is more likely? (a) Brewers lose the NL Central. (b) Brewers win 100 games. 28-15 to win 100. 15-28 to win 87 (Assuming the Reds win 88 as projected by FanGraphs).
  17. On pace for 98 wins, which would be a franchise record. 43-22 since the start of June. If they keep up that pace (28-15), they will finish 100-62.
  18. Reasons not to be concerned: (1) The Brewers are very good + a completely different team from April. (2) The Brewers are well coached and the organization is well run. (3) The Brewers thrive when rosters expand. (4) The competition is inferior and seems to be over-performing of late. (5) It's hard to blow an 8-game lead this late in the year against mediocre competition. Reasons to be concerned: (1) Baseball is random and crazy stuff likes to happen in small samples. (2) Injuries/COVID (3) Joey Votto having a 2019 Yelich-like 2nd half. (4) Cardinals voodoo. (5) Wisconsin sports curse gets revenge for the Bucks. It seems to me like the first list is mostly facts and the second list is mostly fears, but we're Brewers fans so I can understand worrying. If the lead gets to double-digits I think there will be some unclenching, at least temporarily. Personally I'm most afraid of a 5-game divisional series. It's not as awful as the wild card game, but it doesn't take much bad luck to have the entire season go down the toilet.
