  1. So far, the Ricketts haven't shown any interest in putting a winning product on the field. They are interested in making money. I'm not convinced they will spend the big bucks on free agents or even signing their young players. Maybe their attitude will change in a few years, but for now I'm not concerned.
  2. Adam Dunn now has the 6th most HR in MLB history of any player who has pitched at least once.
  3. Looks like I was a little late on the Dunn news. Too bad. He only gave up 1 run.
  4. In other news, Adam Dunn is pitching for the White Sox right now... That's not a joke.
  5. It's stupid to block 2B like that. If Lucroy goes into the base, Panik is headed to the DL.
  6. They went 2-5 and got outscored 26-17 this year. That's bad--but not exactly domination. It doesn't make sense to use recent history to justify that the Brewers "can't beat" the Braves. History also shows that the Braves can't win in the playoffs. They have lost 6 playoff series in a row, plus a wild card playoff. Still, both stats are meaningless because MLB rosters change so much that it doesn't really matter. So what if the 2012 Brewers got killed by the Braves. The rosters are completely different now.
  7. Looking back at the preseason prediction thread, I had Cardinals over Red Sox in the World Series and the Brewers finishing .500 and missing the playoffs. So I'm clueless. Anyway: NL: Dodgers Brewers Nationals San Francisco/Pittsburgh AL: LA Angels Detroit Baltimore Oakland/NY Yankees Expectations are too high in Oakland--I see the A's dropping that WC game to the Yankees. That sets up LA and Detroit in the ALCS. The NLCS will feature the other LA team against the Brewers. In an all-LA World Series, the Dodgers ride Kershaw to the title over the Angels.
  8. The Brewers will be ok in a 5 or 7 game series, but that Wild Card game is terrifying. There is a huge advantage to winning the division--and even more so for getting the best record in the league. The WC game winner burns through a starting pitcher--so if the Brewers end up with the best record in the NL, they could put Lohse up against a #2 starter in game 1.
  9. I expect them to pick up the option. It's not even much of an overpay--in fact, Ramirez could possibly get even more money from another team.
  10. Horrible news. Just awful. At least with the all-star break coming, Jean will have a little time without any need to quickly return.
  11. I can't believe how fast this season is turning into a disaster.
  12. It's starting to look like Cincinnati has the best chance to catch the Brewers.
  13. Was up there for a Jays game in 2006 or so. We stayed in the suburbs and drove to the game, I don't remember traffic being a major issue (it was a weekend). Lots to do within walking distance of the stadium.
  14. The Brewers haven't gained any ground on St. Louis in the past month and a half. There is still no guarantee that the Brewers will even be leading the division at the all-star break. Statistically, the chance of the Brewers winning the NL Central currently sits at about 50%. The Brewers are healthy right now. That will not last forever. There is way too much time left to say anything about the division. I will say that they have a very high chance of making at least the Wild Card game...which equates to a 50% shot at getting into the "real" playoffs.
  15. The best quote I've seen is that it has been a "mature" reaction among fans. Attendance indicates that support is there, but I think people are right that it's too early to get excited. The fan support will be there in August and September if they are still hanging around 1st place.
  16. It's amazing how many wins you can get from having a good bullpen.
  17. Obviously some people will always leave early, but I find it hard to believe that 1/3-1/2 of the stadium is trying to beat traffic. There probably isn't any traffic at the end of the actual game because everyone is already gone! We also wouldn't be having this discussion if there wasn't a recent uptick in the number of people leaving early. I'm still convinced that more people are leaving early because the games are taking longer and there is less offense plus more pitching changes in the late innings.
  18. By almost all metrics, 2014 has the slowest pace of play in MLB history. The game is somewhere around 15-20% slower/more boring than 10 years ago (especially if you look at time per ball in play). Games are 20 minutes longer than 2004 even though offense has decreased significantly. One of the biggest problems is the endless relief pitching matchup chess match that starts in about the 7th inning. Baseball is like the NBA now, the pace slows down dramatically at the end--except instead of endless timeouts, it's endless calls to the bullpen. The closer the game, the worse it is. The scary part is that some are calling for a 26-man roster so there can be yet another relief-specialist to get shuffled in every other game. Another stat I read (sorry can't find the source) is that offense from the seventh inning onward is lower than the worst overall average of the deadball era. So the odds of a late-inning comeback are lower than ever. I don't know what the solution to the problem is, but moving the game time isn't going to matter. People get bored when there are so many pitching changes and no offense. I don't blame them--it bores me as well.
