  1. Loge level is definitely the best deal for the money. I actually preferred the loge infield to the one time I got to sit directly behind home plate. If you are on a budget, the terrace box is the best. 419 was our preferred section when we had season tickets. The club level is nice if you prefer the amenities to the game itself. If it's a weeknight with a small crowd, buy a terrace seat and move to an open seat on the loge level after the second or third inning.
  2. Several times during the game I thought that Arizona was a tougher opponent. Duke and Coach K will be the toughest of all.
  3. Someone pointed out that the lower antlers are shaped like a basketball--very cool. Another plus is that the new colors work nicely with the relatively-new court.
  4. Still in awe at that 2nd half performance today, especially Dekker, amazing to see him take over the game. This team is so incredibly good, I don't want this run to end. It's already the best season in program history but the stakes have never been higher at the national level. Will they be an afterthought in Kentucky's perfect season or will they be remembered for being the team that slays the giant? I think they have what it takes to pull it off. Notre Dame was very Wisconsin-like in that game which makes me think that Wisconsin can exploit some of Kentucky's weaknesses. I'm not worried about Wisconsin being able to keep pace on the offensive end. Shooting will be important, but this game is going to be decided in the paint. Deny the post entries and double Towns when he gets the ball. Make them beat us with jump shots.
  5. Oregon-UNC-Arizona is a much better path than Wichita State-Notre Dame-Kentucky.
  6. Have you considered Zipcar or another form of car sharing? I'm not sure how widespread car sharing is in Milwaukee, but I've been using Car2Go in Seattle and it is very useful when the bus isn't convenient. It costs me about $30/month to use it one or twice per week.
  7. It's interesting to me that Gomez gets labeled "dumb" while Roenicke is "passive". It seems to me that Gomez is mostly just following instructions. I'm not sure the exact reason why he takes so much of the blame for the issues with baseball fundamentals. Especially considering he's been the best centerfielder in baseball over the past two seasons.
  8. I was in your situation about 6 years ago making my first car purchase. Ended up purchasing a $5,000 Corolla with 120K miles off Craigslist. Later sold it to my brother-in-law but it's still running today. I watched a few Youtube videos on evaluating used cars so I knew what to look for (basic stuff like checking tire wear, oil, shocks, A/C, etc). Make sure you bring someone else with you and be very skeptical of anything that looks fishy. There are plenty of cars out there, so if something doesn't seem right, get out of there. The owner should also be comfortable with letting you take the car for a test drive and to a mechanic if you think you want to make a purchase. A legitimate owner should also have records of the previous maintenance. Most shops will do an inspection for less than $100--and this gives you some leverage in negotiating since they will give you an estimate of needed repairs. Also, don't underestimate the other costs associated with the car. Insurance is expensive. There's also going to be repair bills--I've loved my Toyotas but inevitably a car with 100K+ miles is going to have a few $500-$1000 repairs. Keep putting money into your car fund after you purchase the car so you can afford a repair when it pops up. Since you have $6K saved up, another option is to finance a nicer used car. You might want to check out a credit union and see if you can get approved for a loan. Dealerships have a large stock of relatively new cars for under $15K which might be a better deal in the long run.
  9. Not too concerned with the seeding as much as the matchups. Right now Lunardi has Wisconsin in Kentucky's bracket. While I would love to see that matchup, it needs to be in Indy. Same goes for Duke.
  10. Changed title. Doesn't sound quite 100% official...maybe 98%.
  11. People have been complaining about the increasing time of game for several years now. It never really bothered me until the Brewers became one of the top offenders. The Brewers and Pirates played a 1-0 game last year with 12 total hits that took 3 hours and 34 minutes. It took 57 seconds per pitch! Did you see how empty Miller Park was getting in the 8th and 9th innings last year? The fans are definitely getting sick of it and it will start hurting interest if it hasn't already. In the past 10 years, there has been a 15% reduction in scoring combined with a 10% increase in the time of game. That's incredible. It's great that MLB is being proactive about this before it becomes an even bigger problem than it already is.
  12. According to Ken Rosenthal on Twitter: 1. Managers must challenge replays from dugout. 2. Batters must keep one foot in box unless an established exception occurs. 3. Play to resume promptly once broadcast returns from commercial break. They basically took care of the low hanging fruit, it will be interesting to see how much of a difference it makes and if more drastic rule changes will be implemented in 2016.
  13. I agree in principle but I think the recent changes to the game have taken away suspense for the most part. Speciality relief pitching has made the late innings boring. Late-inning comebacks are decreasing: offense in the 7th inning or later is less than the worst of the deadball era. There isn't much suspense when a team has a handful of relievers that strike out more than a third of the batters they face. The way to get more suspense (besides having more evenly matched teams) is to have better starting pitching than relief pitching. Changing the rules to get rid of the "one out guys" would help weaken relief pitching. There are other possibilities as well--e.g. allowing a position player to re-enter the game as a pinch hitter.
  14. Nice to have Rickie in Seattle. I look forward to watching him play this year...at DH I'm assuming???
  15. Not going anywhere as long as Walker is trying to win votes in Iowa.
  16. Craig Counsell right after Gomez crossed the plate.
  17. I think the figure coming to the Brewers (and everyone else) from the new national TV deal was something like an additional $25 million per year. They also pick up a chunk from other teams' TV deals, but they are missing out on that pot for the most part. The funny thing is that it doesn't seem to matter--or at least it's not translating into postseason success for the top spenders.
  18. The Miami Marlins have the potential to be the de facto Cuban team if they market themselves properly. I can't imagine a team actually in Cuba due to the issues mentioned below.
  19. Two coaches departing in 3 years is a bad sign. I wonder what the issue is. Wisconsin has been able to do more with less for a long time. They were fortunate to avoid a drop-off after Bielema left, but I fear this departure will send them back to being a 6-7 win program, at least temporarily.
  20. They ended up right where they should have. No aspect of the team was exceptional and no aspect was terrible. The offense was slightly above average, pitching was slightly below average. When you look at the individuals on the roster, most of them performed about what was expected...a few slightly better (Lucroy), a few worse (Braun). The inconsistency was the biggest surprise to me. The hot streak was just as inexplicable as the cold one. Next year has the potential for them to be in the 80s again with some upgrades. Who knows if Braun will be any better or not, it's a complete mystery. First base is finally improved which is nice. However, playing nearly the exact same roster and expecting different results is asking for disappointment. Hopefully they make some more moves before the season starts.
  21. Undesirable franchises have to overpay to retain top talent. Although in this case, the player option is what looks bad for the Marlins. I'm guessing it was their only hope to get him to the bargaining table. As for the money, $32 million seems reasonable, that assumes 4-5 WAR per year at the current market price.
  22. That's funny because the models have shifted north so Milwaukee is going to get almost all rain from this.
  23. Several opportunities coming up for accumulating snow in Wisconsin...one system on Thursday and then maybe another chance toward the end of next weekend with a big blast of cold air. Props to all of you for putting up with that horrible weather year after year.
  24. This series reminds me of the 2011 NLCS...the more experienced Giants are taking control of the series. I won't count out the Royals yet, but a Giants blowout in Game 6 wouldn't surprise me.
  25. Yes, MLB.tv is shared equally. I doubt MLB would allow the Brewers to do it. It doesn't matter anyway because sports are going to be he last ones to let the cable model go. They are making way too much money off it right now.
