  1. The problem with wild cards is that even if you get one, your odds of reaching the real postseason are still only 50%. And unfavorable pitching matchups in the NLDS on top of that. It's definitely not worth sacrificing the future to go for one of those wild card spots. Of course any team sitting below .500 in mid-July should think twice about making temporary acquisitions. If the move helps the team in 2013 and beyond, then they should go for it.
  2. I do recognize his potential but at least at this point he's having trouble getting outs with his fastball. Still too early to draw any conclusions. Too bad they couldn't get Ryan Braun up one more time.
  3. Thornburg reminds me of Ben Hendrickson...nice curve, but a straight, flat fastball.
  4. I guess now that Rickie Weeks is back to the Mendoza line he can start getting IBBs again.
  5. Manny Parra is the kind of pitcher that will almost certainly show up in the all-star game if the Brewers ever trade him.
  6. My mistake, I was talking about the first round picks. The odds of getting a second round pick are much higher, although we are still most likely to be the odd team out.
  7. I'm not sure how the odds work but it seems unlikely that we will get a pick this year, probably 10-20% (maybe even less). We have the lowest odds out of any team on that list. Next year the odds will be about 50/50.
  8. Well it would at least be nice for them to have the chance to get eliminated in a one-game wildcard playoff.
  9. I feel for Royals fans, they deserve a winner. Even the Pirates and Nationals have good teams now.
  10. Braun robs Prince!!!! Never thought I would ever see that!
  11. Ultimately, it's about image and public perception. That picture from Selig shows it all...that's exactly how many people (especially in the media circles) think he handles MLB in general. If you think about the game rationally, like many in this thread have, it's stupid that everyone got so upset. But for those looking to blame Selig for broader problems in MLB it was a golden opportunity and they took full advantage of it. The Monday morning quarterbacking was crazy, especially since not a single logical alternate solution was proposed that would have given the game any more credibility than a tie.
  12. That was probably the low point in Brewers franchise history...or maybe it was Jose Hernandez chasing the strikeout record at the end of the year?
  13. It looked like the Bratwurst and the racing presidents. Meanwhile, Prince is putting on a show!
  14. I agree turboricky, still hasn't completely set in that he's gone. At least he's not up there in a Cubs jersey.
  15. John Kruk suddenly got really quiet after George Brett brought those ribs.
  16. A big fat zero. Prince survives to the 2nd round. The captain next year will probably think twice about not picking any NY players.
  17. Well, the Arizona fans don't look so bad now.
  18. To be fair, McCutchen took Stanton's spot--although McCutchen somehow has 18 HR this year. The field is definitely weak this year, it would have been nice to have Adam Dunn or Hamilton or both in there.
  19. I agree, the HR derby is always a good time. Bautista had a nice run with 9 outs.
