  1. I think almost everyone agrees that an open air ballpark is better than a closed stadium. But very few people will actually attend games when the weather is bad. Even a single rainout can cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue. It's also amazing how many Brewers fans drive in from outside of the Milwaukee area. There are some compromises that they could have considered though. I think if they had an extra $100 million to spend, they could have made all 7 roof panels mobile and extended the track beam at MP so that the roof slides completely off the stadium. They could also remove some of the advertising signs in the outfield to give a little more of an open air feel. Safeco field is the best example of what can be done--but it is open air even when the roof is closed.
  2. First they need to get back to .500 before they even think about buying. Games like tonight do not convince me they are even capable of doing that.
  3. Forget bunting. And Roenicke finally gets Izturis out of the game!
  4. Excellent play by Ramirez. K-Rod is frustrating, to say the least.
  5. They've gotten more serious this year now that the Marlins are trying to be a real major league team. To their credit, they have done their homework on the Brewers and generally have nice things to say about Milwaukee and the team. Except for Nyjer Morgan. The best comment of the night was them saying that Gaby Sanchez decking Morgan was "one of the highlights of his career".
  6. I forgot about the DH. That would be the best spot for Braun. Too bad he isn't in the home run derby, although this year it's probably better that he stays out it.
  7. The Marlins' announcers think that McCutchen will start the ASG ahead of Braun. Knowing LaRussa, they are probably right.
  8. Nice work Ishikawa...the Greinke streak continues for now :-)
  9. I don't even have the volume on that loud, but I could hear those naughty words from Buck easily.
  10. Loading the bases with a hit batter and 2 walks? Looks like the old Zambrano we know and love.
  11. That's a legitimate concern but I still think it would work. Obviously they couldn't have A/C on the field level concourse because it is open to the field. The terrace concourse only has the small tunnels to the field. It would be easy to close those openings, curtains is one option or they could even add doors (although doors might violate the fire code). I think it is not a big deal if A/C leaks through those openings. If it is running constantly, they should have no problem reducing the temperature in the concourse without too much energy loss.
  12. It seems like the consensus is that A/C is a bad idea because it will not be used very much and will lead to more roof closures. Most agree that having air conditioned concourses (especially in the terrace) would be a nice addition. This might not be possible depending on how the HVAC is set up. Having the ability to open some of the windows above the terrace level would also be a good idea to help move a breeze through the park. It seems like the problem isn't necessarily that it is too hot, but that some areas of the terrace do not experience any air movement.
  13. Really sorry to hear this news, just terrible for him and his family/friends.
  14. Indianapolis is good at getting big events so it is possible. A big event that Milwaukee could potentially get is Republican or Democratic National Convention, especially considering Wisconsin has been a political hotbed of late. However, the event would likely be held at the new arena (if it is built) and not at Miller Park. It is important to advocate for a downtown entertainment/convention district if Milwaukee is ever to host events like that. Miller Park is very good for baseball. But for many of these other events, using a baseball park is more of a gimmick than actually serving a practical purpose. Football stadiums work better and there is now a long list of new indoor football stadiums available and soon to be another one in Minneapolis.
  15. I don't know anything about him, but looking at his stats, he has no power, a low OBP, and can't hit left handers. 21 doubles is impressive though. Seems like a late 2013-2014 guy to me. We don't want to make the same mistake with Weeks that we did with Hardy. No point in selling low, stick with Weeks and hope he figures it out.
  16. Gallardo throws a lot of pitches. He's probably not going to change. He has a very straight fastball and it is not a good out pitch. It has to be located on the corners and if the umpire has a small zone (like today) his pitch count is going to climb. Notably, they said this is the first time he went above 115 this year. That is surprising. So maybe part of the problem is that Roenicke is pulling him early.
  17. If people are upgrading to more expensive seats for the A/C, then it definitely doesn't make sense for them to add A/C in the cheap seats. I can't see Miller Park ever getting a major event like the Final Four, even with added heating. That is a big event designed to be in a downtown area with nearby hotels and convention space. Plus, the roof still has some drips--what if it rains? And I think people would rather be anywhere but Milwaukee at the beginning of April. Depending on how the Badgers/Minnesota/Notre Dame hockey doubleheader draws at Soldier Field this year, they could consider something like that. The NHL has gone over well in baseball stadiums and Miller Park is the next logical choice for a Badgers outdoor game. But they might even consider opening the roof for that event. The Winter Classic itself is in high demand and is unlikely to come to a non-NHL city. There has been some talk about football in the past as well, but I think they do not want to damage the field. They have even been reluctant to book concerts for this reason. One event that might be a possibility is the World Baseball Classic. I think Milwaukee fans would turn out for that in big numbers. A US team with Ryan Braun would sell out easily.
  18. Hope the person in the bullpen is OK. The blue and gold stripe on the pants is part of the problem. Hopefully this isn't an annual thing. These are ugly.
  19. Dillard is actually a decent pitcher when used properly.
