  1. Well, I got home just in time to see Trevor time!!! Typical Brewers.
  2. Excellent, I've been waiting for Cameron to rob a HR since we signed him. I'm heading home, hopefully Trevor's in when I get back :-)
  3. Can someone describe Cameron's catch, I'm stuck at work. Thanks!
  4. That's fine if we're the Yankees, but there was also the money issue. The Brewers can't afford to drop millions more on another starting pitcher or get rid of anymore valuable minor league talent. The pundits were going to write us off no matter what after losing Sheets and CC. That's just the way it is. We have to build from within. Speaking of the Yankees, they have all the money in the world and STILL have rotation problems. The Red Sox have Smoltz--who couldn't beat the Nationals.
  5. "McClung to the rotation. What a disaster decision. Thanks Doug Melvin for giving Macha these crap options for a rotation." Doesn't it seem premature to judge McClung after 3 innings? Also, Melvin didn't make Bush get injured or have Parra blow up. I actually give him credit for stockpiling extra starting pitchers--McClung, Burns, Wright, Dillard...
  6. The bulletin board should read: "We have to go 28 games over .500 the rest of the way to meet the minimum expectation of our fans." ;-)
  7. There's just too much talent on that team to "implode". Even if just about everything you could think of goes wrong, the worst they will finish is .500. As for meeting those expectations of 95+ wins--that is clearly not going to happen. Still, without that run of late-inning victories last week, they might have been in 4th or 5th place. One or two teams are eventually going to get hot in this division and break away from the field. As of right now, it's looking like the Cubs will not be one of those teams.
  8. Terry Kelly has been running a high resolution weather forecast model centered on Madison, WI specifically to predict the timing of rain for the fireworks. Needless to say, the output had a line of thunderstorms pounding Dane County for several hours in the early evening. Better to make the call earlier and be safe rather than having everyone heading out for no reason. Edit: T-storm watch issued, as expected for all of southern WI
  9. The problem with the AOS building is that the windows are very tiny, so you would actually have to sit awkwardly on a ledge in order to see out them. The view from the roof would probably be very good though. I will be missing it (again) this year due to work...
  10. As much as I like Craig Counsell leading off, Gamel has to be either starting or in the minors. It looked like Mat was starting to heat up, but after a few days of riding the pine, I doubt he will have retained any of that momentum. McGehee should be starting everyday at 2B, Gamel everyday at 3B. Counsell should start 1-2 times/week at shortstop unless Hardy remembers that he's good at baseball.
  11. Weather is going to be a big concern for Rhythm and Booms. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know where/when the storms will hit at this time. We are expecting the storms to fire during the say in Iowa/Minnesota and then move into Wisconsin sometime in the evening/overnight as a cold front moves through and finally ends the heat wave. The storms should be in the form of a squall line with possible severe thunderstorm watches/warnings due to the possibility of high winds. I'll know more tomorrow at this time. Edit: Update on the fireworks--still looking like the best chance for the Madison area will be from 6 PM - 9 PM with isolated showers/storms before and after that. Bob's morning forecast was still confident that the storms would be gone by the fireworks, but the meteorologists here at Weather Central are much less optimistic.
  12. Those two runs also swung the win probability by about 30%, with Guerrier and Nathan in the 8th and 9th for the Twins. They probably hold onto a 3-run lead in that situation at least 95% of the time.
  13. Honestly, I think the Mallards would outdraw a potential UW baseball team, especially if the stadium is on campus (no alcohol sales). The duck blind is a big part of the high attendance numbers at Mallards games. There are also a large number of Madison-area Brewers fans who drive to Milwaukee for games. It's not that people don't like baseball here, but there are already a number of entertainment options and it's hard to believe that the Badgers could put a competitive team on the field even if they did start up the program again. The only way it comes back is with a huge outside donation and even then it might not happen. A new hockey practice facility/arena is of higher priority.
  14. Since Davey Nelson called this a must win game, does that mean the season is about to be over?
  15. It has already been shown with Michael Phelps that this country doesn't care if people are caught smoking pot. It probably has the opposite effect of a PED and is much less a crime than something like DUI. This doesn't change my opinion of him at all.
  16. I was upset with Macha for pulling Burns right after letting him bat in the 5th. That seems like a mistake that an AL manager would have made. Burns only had 90 pitches and it should have gone straight from Burns to Stetter. I like many things about Ken Macha but this isn't the first time he's pulled a starter too soon with an already depleted bullpen.
  17. That's 2 years at Mitchell Airport where the lake breeze often drops the temperature in the afternoon. I bet there were several in that time period just about everywhere else in SE Wisconsin. This would definitely still be the first real "heat wave" in a few years. We can expect a few more near 90-degree days before everything ends with a bang on Saturday evening.
  18. Most likely a tornado will be confirmed near Edgerton/Janesville tomorrow, as several spotters saw the funnel and tree damage was reported. This was a really incredible event for a number of reasons. There were no storms in the area before or after this event and it came from a very small "airmass thunderstorm" that lasted about 30 minutes because there was no vertical wind shear. Therefore, this was likely a "landspout" tornado--meaning that it was associated with the rapid updraft of this thunderstorm and not a rotating supercell. Very cool.
  19. If Suppan is garbage, what does that make Bush, Looper, and Parra?
  20. Nice to see attendance in the state of Florida up by over 8,000 fans per game (combined Marlins/Rays). I wonder if the Marlins increase is due to the new stadium getting approved.
  21. And of course, if player salaries and ticket prices were both cut, the large profits would go to scalpers.
  22. Milwaukee hasn't reached 90 since September, 2007. However, Mitchell Airport is currently at 89 degrees with a light wind from the south. If the lake breeze kicks in, Milwaukee could miss 90 again. Update: lake breeze now visible on radar and wind has shifted to the SE at the airport. They might have hit 90 but otherwise the streak will continue.
  23. Isn't every NBA team a borderline playoff team when healthy?
  24. This is the first major Wisconsin heat wave in a few years! It has been a while but we have been way below our average number of 90 degree days the past few summers. On average, Milwaukee (airport) gets 9.7 days of 90+ per summer and Madison gets 13.7. So before anyone tries to blame this on global warming, remember that the last 2 summers have been below average. Hawing, I think you are correct that the dewpoint value is off in Watertown. This is a common occurrence with humidity sensors as it is actually very difficult to measure dew point accurately. We haven't see 80+ dewpoints around here since probably the 1995 heat wave (also the last time we had 100+ degree temperatures).
