  1. I'm already ready for the robo umps.
  2. He's faster than Estrada in theory, but his general attitude about taking the extra base can be summarized (at 4:18) here...
  3. That was my experience at the spring training game that I was at. If you can bait the pitcher into throwing over twice, it's a free stolen base for a speedy runner. Pitchers have to be really smart about when they throw over and the catcher needs to help by throwing over to first if needed.
  4. I'm glad he's hitting high in the lineup, his best tool is his ability to work the count and get on base. Unfortunately, he's the worst baserunner I have ever seen.

  6. I wonder how many teams are going without a lefty in the bullpen. The Astros are doing it again this year and I know the Mariners are as well.
  7. But we have 4 elite pitchers! Who cares who the other 9 are???
  8. Title insurance is even more of a scam IMO.
  9. That was an obvious quick pitch under the new rules, the rules are straightforward. There was no eye contact. If there is no eye contact by 8 seconds then the batter gets an automatic strike. I get that players are trying to stretch the rules right now to gain an advantage. I don't want extra time added to the pitch clock, especially in the late innings. Power relievers will take advantage of that to rest between pitches. In the NFL you don't get extra time added to the play clock near the end of the game. They can use the mound visits if they need a time out.
  10. MVP: Adames CY Young: Woodruff Rookie of the Year: Mitchell BA Leader: Yelich HR Leader: Adames ERA Leader: Woodruff SO Leader: Woodruff WAR Leader: Adames Breakout(s): Mitchell Disappointment(s): Winker, the bullpen as a whole Bold Prediction (s): Burnes traded at deadline. Urias is primed for a big year. Record: 86 wins Playoffs? No. 2nd place but no wild card. Lack of pitching depth sinks us and we don't have the firepower to outhit the Cards.
  11. Sometimes it feels like this team will never score again but this team is taking that literally.
  12. Adames is not the correct comparison. Keston can not play SS. Players with a .750 OPS and high K-rate who can’t field are a dime a dozen. There are only a handful of shortstops who consistently OPS above .750. If Keston could play a decent 2B he would have a job.
  13. I went backpacking in the Sawtooths to see the last solar eclipse and it was absolutely incredible. I need to come up with another excuse to get out there again. I haven't done anything in Montana except drive through it. If that area is your cup of tea, I recommend visiting Bend, Oregon + vicinity as well.
  14. I wonder if Delaware North is to blame or if the Brewers are simply not willing to invest (or both). I get that ~75% of the people at the ballpark just want cheap junk food, but it's a huge miss to not have at least a few good premium options that are outside of the club/restaurant levels. This can't possibly be a surprise to them, I think AmFam was in the middle to the bottom of the ballpark food rankings that I've seen. Basic stuff like a freshly grilled premium sausage w/ toppings would be a huge hit, even at a $10-12 price point.
  15. Season ticket holders also get free MLB.tv.
  16. The fact that the Brewers have their business executive giving the press release tells you all you need to know about their priorities on the ballpark menu. I just saw a similar one for the Mariners and it was given by the executive chef of T-Mobile Park. The picture of the cheese in those junior nachos looks concerning to me.
  17. I think the pitchers were more interested in dealing with runners than past spring training years because they needed to practice working with the rule changes.
  18. There were a lot of guys with 80th percentile speed who only had 10-20 steals with the old rules. I agree that we'll see them double their totals. The really interesting scenario is when there have already been two pickoff throws. I enjoyed watching this in person at spring training. The pitcher has to be really smart about stepping off vs. throwing to first a third time. In the case that I saw, the runner took off while the pitcher was still set but he went home instead of stepping off and it was the easiest stolen base that I've ever seen. The pitcher has a lot to think about and that clock is ticking fast.
  19. The guys with 80th-90th percentile speed are going to rack up the stolen bases. Everyone else will continue to not steal.
  20. I think the Pirates did more to get better than the Reds did. The Reds will be in the basement. I could see the Pirates finishing in 3rd. Brewers/Cards feels like a tossup. 90 or 91 wins should be enough to take the division. The move to a more balanced schedule is going to expose the NL Central. I'll take the Cards because I think they will be more willing to make the deadline acquisitions needed to make a postseason push. Brewers win 85 and miss the playoffs.
  21. I wonder how the demographics of the Brewers’ broadcasts compare to other MLB teams. There doesn’t seem to be much demand to advertise on their broadcasts despite the healthy ratings.
  22. Paying for a handful of streaming services to get all of the games isn't a big deal. Paying for cable to get all of the games isn't a big deal. Paying for cable AND a handful of streaming services to get all of the games is a problem.
  23. I say bring on the future. Let us pay for only what we want. If AppleTV has enough content to justify the price then I’ll pay for it. If not, I won’t.
  24. The current version of Ohtani may be the best baseball player ever.
  25. This tournament has been better than the World Series
