  1. With all the money being thrown at pitchers these days, this is probably a bad time for Pettite to be thinking of retirement. I am pretty sure he will pitch again. It would be great if he left Houston. Hopefully Clemens will do the same.
  2. Anna Benson would immediately become the biggest celebrity in Milwaukee. It could be interesting.
  3. During the last four games at Miller Park, Barry Bonds looked terrible on defense. The Brewers were able to put together several big rallies thanks to the lack of range shown by Barry Bonds. He couldn't get to routine flyballs, and he could not cut the ball off in the gaps. He literally killed the Giants' pitching staff as the Brewers swept the series and scored a ton of runs in the process. I think Barry should go to the American League and become a DH.
  4. From CBS Sportsline . . . The deal between San Francisco and outfielder Dave Roberts (three years, $18 million) is expected to be finished early next week, though it isn't quite as close as has been reported. The two sides are still discussing parameters of a deal and a physical exam has yet to be scheduled. "The Giants have about 50 balls in the air right now," says John Boggs, Roberts' agent. "We're working in that direction." Several other clubs, including Milwaukee, continue to keep tabs on Roberts in case that deal falls apart. &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp
  5. From MLB.com . . . On Tuesday, Melvin shot down an Internet rumor that the Brewers were negotiating with free-agent outfielder Shannon Stewart. The team has a three-year offer on the table to Dave Roberts, but Melvin still expects Roberts to sign with the Giants (THANK GOD)
  6. I feel the same way. I admit that I am not really familiar with Stewart, but he doesn't strike me as the type of player who really excels at anything. If we were to get this guy, it would just feel like we are spinning our wheels and not really moving forward as a franchise. I wish Melvin would pass.
  7. If the Cubs got Manny Ramirez, that would be scary. They could probably afford his contract too. I don't like the thought of it. Once again, I really think it would be worth overpaying a little to get a guy like Manny Ramirez to Milwaukee considering the risk is only 2 years. A .321 average, 35 Homeruns, 102 RBI, and a .439 OBP sounds awfully good. Not only would it make the Brewers instant contenders, but the extra publicity and media coverage would be a nice change. This isn't some ridiculous eight-year deal that will come back to kill you either. If they could find a way to somehow move Jenkins, it is definitely affordable.
  8. Well, if Ramirez were to come here, it would be exactly the type of move that would put the Brewers on the map. If they were willing to give 12 million to Carlos Lee, why not just pay a little more if it is only for two years. Ramirez is a difference maker.
  9. I know a lot of the stats people aren't enamored with Loretta's OPS, but I still believe that the Brewers need more "professional hitters" in the lineup. I would be open to seeing Loretta return if the situation fit.
  10. From FoxSports.com . . . &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp The Dodgers are close to signing free-agent center fielder Juan Pierre, possibly paving the way for free-agent outfielder Dave Roberts to sign with the Giants, Brewers or Rangers, FOXSports.com has learned. Pierre is believed to be seeking $9M a season and his contract could be for as long as five years. The Orioles are on the fringes of the Roberts sweepstakes but they are also pursuing free-agent left fielder Carlos Lee, sources say.
  11. I thought I read somewhere that Loney has bad knees and that he may not be able to play in the outfield. There is a possibility that the Dodgers might use him for trade bait.
  12. When you look at Beltre's stats, how much do you have to consider that Beltre played his home games in Dodgers Stadium and Safeco Field. Both are considered lousy parks for hitters. Does anyone know of any statistical adjustment that takes into account park factors?
  13. Beltre strikes me as the type of guy who could thrive with a change of scenery. His hitting style seems perfect for Miller Park too. If I were Doug Melvin, I would explore it. EDIT: Acquiring Beltre would also solve the problem with Ryan Braun and his defense. They could move Braun to left field. The outfield of the future would be Hall, Braun, and Hart. I like it.
  14. It looks like the Braves are dropping out of the Dave Roberts sweepstakes. From MLB.com . . . . Scratch Dave Roberts off the Braves' list of potential free-agent acquisitions. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that the Braves are no longer interested in Roberts, who could command a three-year, $15 million contract.
  15. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com had this to say . . . . Milwaukee, Atlanta and Texas are among the clubs in the mix for outfielder Dave Roberts. Roberts stole 49 bases last year compared to 10 for Gary Matthews Jr., Texas' incumbent center fielder, and new Rangers manager Ron Washington is a big proponent of speed at the top of the order. With Mark DeRosa signing for three years and $13 million with the Cubs, Roberts might now be looking at three years and $15 million-plus -- a figure that's rising by the day.
  16. Denverpost.com is reporting that Roberts is seeking $15 million over three years. This sounds consistent with the predictions made by Rotoworld (16 million over 3 years)
  17. I don't want to see Gwynn get traded. I personally still see him as the centerfielder of the future. I loved watching him track down flyballs in the outfield, and I thought he handled the bat well considering it was just his first stint in the big leagues. I know he doesn't have power and needs to walk more, but so does Juan Pierre. I think Gwynn could even be better that Pierre someday. I say keep him.
  18. From Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com . . . One GM with interest in free-agent outfielder Dave Roberts anticipates that the Brewers will make a strong push to sign Roberts to bat leadoff and play center field. By signing Roberts or free-agent center fielder Juan Pierre, the Brewers further would increase their outfield depth, raising the possibility that Geoff Jenkins and/or Kevin Mench could be traded. Roberts, however, is in heavy demand; the Mets, Braves, Dodgers and White Sox are among the other teams interested. Bill Hall, who impressed GM Doug Melvin with his outfield play during the major-league All-Star tour of Japan, is perhaps the Brewers' leading candidate to play left.
  19. Batting .283 with 20 homeruns and 100 RBI is nice but not really spectacular. Is he really that great defensively? I know Boras usually gets the deals he wants, but I still don't know about this.
  20. I think there would have to be more players involved to balance out the talent, but this trade sort of makes sense. A-Rod could probably thrive in St. Louis because the fans and media would appreciate him even when he struggles. Rolen and LaRussa don't get along anymore and maybe Rolen could use a change of scenery.. As a Brewers fan, I hope this trade does not happen. I still think the Brewers should try for A-Rod.
  21. I haven't checked the numbers, but I think he was struggling the past few months that he was in Texas too. I believe he had lost his everyday job.
  22. I am really sick of the Cardinals. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!
  23. Walkoff. Magglio. AL Champs. (I'm jealous)
  24. I am fascinated with A-Rod, and I want to see the Brewers aggressively go after him. The idea of having more star power really appeals to me. But I am not eager to give up much if we are going to pay all 16 million dollars. I just don't think it makes baseball sense to take on that contract AND give up a big chunk of talent. Even if the Yankees are willing to pay some of that salary, I am not sure I would want to trade Hall unless the Yankees offered something else attractive along with A-Rod. I just don't think the difference in production would offset the increased cost. I really prefer to see Hall and A-Rod in the same lineup. The Brewers need to find a way to add without really subtracting (like they did when they traded Podesdnik for Lee) I wonder if the Yankees would take prospects?
  25. If the Brewers can chew up the Cardinals bullpen, it might have a ripple effect through the playoffs for STL.
