  1. It is January 10th. Too early to be griping about the payroll. Let's wait a few months and then I'll be right there with you if its still at this state.

  3. Might be protection in case they DFA Freitas to make room on the 40 man. Otherwise I dont see a lot of room in the upper minors for another C. Could just be a guy we put on the taxi squad.
  4. With the 40 man roster space that the Brewers have, it seems like the Brewers should take a couple of high upside players and see how they fair during spring training. If they don't impress, send them back and get half your money back. Seems like a low risk option to add some depth. Unfortunately the best high upside starting pitcher may be Zach Brown - so there's that.
  5. So is Claudio a free agent after the 2020 season or is he eligible for arbitration again.
  6. I was looking at this today as well. You have T.Williams, Faria, R. Black, and the other Guerra that are out of options and will be battling for a bullpen spot. I don't expect all of these guys to make it, but they will be given every chance to make the roster.
  7. Arcia is projected to have a higher OPS (702) than Iglesias (693). Ha.
  8. I think Braun to first makes the most sense. That will be easier on his body and will free up money for other positions.
  9. You guys are all wrong. Obviously this move was made to free up another roster spot so we can take five rule 5 players
  10. But we don't know who Arcia is. He is only going to be 25 and was at once a top 15 prospect in all of baseball. I believe he is running out of time, but I don't think Stearns would replace him with another unknown. Arcia still has potential and could improve and be a 700-750 OPS good fielding SS like he did in 2017 as a 22 year old. I'd prefer an upgrade at ss but without a obvious upgrade available that we can afford, I think they roll with Arcia for another year. I would love a Sogard to be brought in as a platoon (insurance) but that depends on what his market will be and whether other teams think he is a starting caliber player.
  11. I don't envy Stearns on his decision on Shaw. He performance next year is incredibly unpredictable. He could realistically have an OPS anywhere from 551 to 862. That means we could have anywhere from bad Arcia to good Moose. I think his only option is to try and trade him and replace him with Moose or another free agent. Relying on that level of unpredictability for a key role cannot be afforded on a contending team. I liked the idea that someone posted to trade him for Zack Cozart (as long as the money gets evened out). Change of scenery type trade.
  12. I've got the 40 man roster currently at $106M
  13. I like this less now that I see he got a major league deal and a 40 man roster slot. The Brewers do have the room, but I would have preferred a better talent to use that 40 man spot with.
  14. Great recap as always. It always amazes me when guys like Casals and Salaman are let go at the end of the year when you consider how many other players remain who did far worse. I'm sure there is more to the story which we will never know but it is interesting.
  15. The brewers have invested heavily the last couple of years in the minors, including buying the Carolina team and creating playing fields for the two Arizona teams. I presume the Carolina team will be unaffected, but if this goes through, they spent money on playing fields for just spring training. Maybe its not that big a deal, but I wonder if Atanasio has been busy talking to his accountant.
  16. How are they unaware that Antoine Kelly started 10 games? Hard to take their analysis seriously.
