  1. I think you have to go back to 1987. Wegman, Nieves, Bosio + Higuera (older but a solid #1). Plesac and Crim in the bullpen. Don August, Knudsen and Birkbeck were up and coming. Unfortunately all that talent still did not get us to the world series.
  2. I would have thought they would sign him to a minor league contract thus saving a 40 man spot. However, the low guaranteed salary is a bonus. Hopefully they can find an upgrade.
  3. Apart from the fact the Brewers don't have the payroll room or an open spot in the outfield, I think Harper to the Brewers makes complete sense.
  4. I'm not so sure. We could very easily treat the Rule 5 draft like a waiver claim. A waiver claim is $20k and a rule 5 pick is $50k, but you can recoup $25k by offering the player back to the team you drafted him from. In both cases, it is a cheap way to obtain a player. We would keep the player on the roster only if they are performing. If not, its a low cost risk. Why not try a Schrock or a Clifton to see if they could stick in Spring? We dont have to use the Rule 5 draft to hide a player that is not ready yet.
  5. Close and it would depend on what the Mets think of Woodard and Ray. Probably need a third prospect like Brown if you are not including Hiura or Burnes. You had me going. Steve Woodard has not pitched for the Brewers since 1999. Do you think we could sign him for a 1 day contract to see if the Mets get fooled? I'd do Woodard, Ray and Stokes for Syndergaard in a heartbeat. Heck I'd even throw in Steve Braun and the money to cover the rest of his contract.
  6. The 60-day Disabled list is only in effect during the season. Once the season ends, all players on the 60-day DL must be reinstated to the 40 man roster.
  7. So the Brewers AAA roster is at 30. Per Cots, the AAA roster can have up to 38 players on it. What is the downside to filling up the roster further? I presume you need to have spots open in order to pick players in the AAA phase of the Rule 5, but 8 would seem to be excessive. I see no requirement that the players have to stay at the AAA level; the Brewers can reassign at will in the minors after the draft. Not that these are great prospects or anything, but a guy like Luna, Owenby, Ortega, or Kuntz could have value. It does not say too much about what the Brewers think of these guys. I believe it is rare that a player selected in the minor league phase of the draft turns out to be something but it can happen. Justin Bour in was selected by the Marlins from the AA Cubs roster and has had an impact in the major leagues.
  8. I think all pitching prospects can be described as #3 starter who projects more as a bullpen arm.
  9. Schrock would be interesting. Had a down year last year, but was a good hitter in every year prior. Still young and plays a position of need. Wong could be interesting as well.
  10. i'm surprised Perdomo did not see AA this year. Overall numbers were pretty decent. Checking his splits, he started off extremely well and then tailed off. Still. Nice pickup.
  11. Woah didn't he Solvdd our catching problems?
  12. Kratz and Suter could easily be moved off the 40 man. Wilkerson too. However, I agree there are not too many players that need to be added. Only ones for sure, IMO, are Supak and Stokes. I could get on board with Olzak and even Derby to help fill out the pen rotation.
  13. 1. Hiura 2. Ray 3. T.Lutz 4. Turang 5. Dubon 6. Diplan 7. Z. Brown 8. Stokes 9. A.Ashby 10. Erceg 11. Houser 12. Supak 13. B.Webb 14. Nottingham 15. Gatewood 16. P. Henry 17. M.Feliciano 18. C.Lemons 19. Carlos Rodriguez 20. McClanahan 21. T.Grisham 22, D. Brown 23. Je'Von Ward 24. Torres-Costa 25. Ponce 26. Leugim Castillo 27. B.Derby 28. Bickford 29. D. Williams 30. Vassalotti 31. M. Bello 32. J.Gray Jr 33. Roegner 34. Harber 35. P.Abreu 36. T.Taylor 37. K.Howell 38. A. Melendez 39. Jolon Lun 40. Jankins 41. Olczak 42. M.Sanchez 43. W. Salaman 44. M.McDowell 45. Y.Coca 46. D.Fry 47. Bowden Francis 48. Whitmer 49. Kirby 50. J.Hager
  14. With all the starters they have, neither may be in the rotation. I think Peralta has more to work on and will likely start in AAA but I see him as a starter long term. The brewers were very cautious with Woodruff and did not let him go a third time through the order. Maybe his postseason performance will change their minds. For now, I see him as a shutdown long reliever. Extremely valuable with the Brewers current rotation. I think the brewers will get a LH starter this offseason and maybe trade Chase Anderson. They have Chacin, Nelson, Burnes, Anderson?, Davies. I think Guerra will be in the bullpen (as will Hader). That's a lot of depth. Plus more waiting in the wings at AAA/AA (Z.Brown, Supak, Diplan, Derby, Roegner, Webb)
  15. If Lyles has options, I think they would have picked up his option. They need a few spots open with guys that can be optioned up and down throughout the season.
  16. He is not on the 40 man roster. Since he just had TJ surgery, it is very likely the brewers do not add him and risk losing him to the Rule 5. If a team selects him, they will have to keep him on the 60 man DL all of 2019 and then he needs to stay on their 25 man roster in 2020 in order to keep him. QTC has never been considered a top prospect so its hard to believe a team would do that, but I suppose it could happen. I think they risk exposing him to the draft.
  17. If the Brewers get to the WS, Kratz is going to be revered like Ned Yost has been from the '82 season (pre-coaching years, that is)
  18. Kratz looks like the type of guy who would swear by saying "Oh Gosh" so I bet they wanted someone they wouldn't have to bleep. He played for NY. It was either him or Granderson as that's the only two player's names they could pronounce
