  1. Yeah, the link now says the Sox with get back three players to be named later. That would seem to be pretty good value for Benintendi who has shown some decline from his peak in 2018. I imagine those three will not be much of significance. Franchy has a lot of potential but has had injuries the past few years and is now 26. He's running out of time, but if he can stay healthy it would not surprise me if he outperforms Benintendi
  2. I can hardly complain about a minor league contract signing, but i had higher hopes for a veteran backup startup. Oh well, at least he's a wisconsin boy and you never know. Beer and cheese can heal many woes.
  3. If I had to play a bad fielder and my choices were 2nd base or 1st base I'd choose 1st base every time. Stand there like a tree and catch balls that are thrown to you is 90% of the job description. Exactly. "1b is not that hard. Tell em 'Wash'...""It's incredibly hard"... "Hey, anything worth doing is, and we're gonna teach you"
  4. I like Wong and am glad the Brewers made a deal to get a regular for the infield. However, I think they overpaid. If you compare this signing to Cesar Hernandez who signed with Cleveland for $5M with an $6M option for 2022. The players are comparable though Wong has a much higher WAR due to his defensive though Cesar is just fine defensively. If this means the Brewers are done adding regulars to the team then I would have rather had Cesar for half the price so we can get an established 3B or maybe a veteran SP. If the Brewers still have $ to spend then I'm happy with Wong.
  5. I'm glad I wont have to watch this offense on TV try to hit. Does this belong in the optimism thread or vent thread?
  6. I can see it now: March/April, every day is senior day!
  7. I guess we now know who Attanasio was brought in for to try and convince him to sign. Thanks Mark!
  8. Seems like good value for Musgrove, He is basically a backend starter and they got quite a few prospects for him. I would have expected more in return for Joey Lucchesi though. Honestly, Musgrove and Lucchesi are not that far apart in terms of talent. He had a bad year last year, but otherwise he was basically a cost controlled league average starter. I would have been in on him if all it would cost is a young C like P.Henry, Kahle, Warren, or Quero. We have quite a bit of depth at C.
  9. I'm a fan of robertson. Hardly a splashy signing but he would be a good utility IF with potential for regular playing time if he hits. He can take a walk which would be refreshing trait for a Brewer. I'd be more excited if he was LH.
  10. Troy Stokes was DFAd to make room for Grossman. A once promising prospect that has fallen quickly. Hopefully he lands somewhere and gets a chance at the show. He still young enough. Will turn 25 next month.
  11. I dropped spectrum this year in favor of youtube tv. If YouTube wont cover the brewers I will be dropping them to buy a nice AM transistor radio to listen to 620 I'm not going back to Spectrum if that's my only option. Brewers need to step up and fix this. They are going to lose fans if these are the only options they give us.
  12. He would be perfect, but I'm not sure the Brewers have the prospect depth or the budget to add him. He's on a very team friendly contract at around $11M per thru 2024 plus a option for $15M in 2025. For his production, that is very reasonable. If they do have the budget, I think Turang, Henry, and Andrews might work. The trade simulator aligns FWIW. Suarez has a 23.4 value and the prospects are 23.3. Not sure the Brewers can afford to give up that much.
  13. I dont see a lot potential growth for Moran. He is what he is; a sub 800 OPS 3b. Not great, just mediocre. It will cost us a few prospects and he is only getting more expensive now that he's arby eligible. I'd rather pass on him, but he could be better than the alternative.
  14. I'm a fan of Beaty. He had a good 2019, but is an older player at this point. He appears to be a strict platoon player but could match up well with Urias at 3b. He's cost effective and can be controlled into his 30s. Maybe Abreu or Bello for him?
  15. I'm not expecting too much, but these are nice depth signings. You never know what you may get. Topa was a minor league FA in 2019 that looks like a good pickup now.
  16. My mistake. Thanks for the correction. I totally missed loading the rocky mountain team. That makes sense. This is what I have for the AAA and AA rosters. Obviously, these are just my opinions, but the A+/A teams dont have much room so these players need to go somewhere. Pos AAA AA C: M. Feliciano, P. Henry BC: Freitas, D. Fry 1B: Spanberger, L. Castro 2B: Mathias, TBD SS: TBD, Turang 3B: Erceg, W. Wilson LF: R.Aguilar, A. Palma CF: Cory Ray, T. Lutz RF: Hummel, TBD DH: Z. Green, T. Dillard (I'm counting his 2020 Appleton time as development, but this is a stretch) BIF: TBD, A. Ortega BOF: Westbrook, TBD PH: TBD, B. Diaz A guy like M.Wilson or A.Nnebe could get pushed to AA for OF depth but that would be a stretch. This leaves 6 minor league free agents need to be signed, may be a few more for depth. Pitching is in better shape, though I'm sure the brewers will take a flier on a minor league vet or two. AAA pitching (15): Z. Brown, Bettinger, D. File, B. Francis, Leo Crawford, M. Sanchez, Bickford, Jankins, Derby, Feyereisen, L. Contreras, L.Barker, A. Perdomo, Torres-Costa, C.Andrews (I'm high on him). Names will vary depending on who make the Brewers bullpen. AA pitching (15): B. Webb, Zavolas, Sunitsch, E. Small, A. Ashby, J.T. Hintzen, J. Cousins, M. Hardy, Jesus Castillo, Strzelecki, T. Gillies, R. Hitt, Kenilvort, N.Kirby, Beckman. 6-8 minor league free agents does not seem too much out of the norm. A few more than usual, but likely because they will have larger bullpens to protect the pitching.
  17. I dont think the Brewers are that far off. First of all, there are players missing from the rosters that should be listed. I count 11 hitters and 8 pitchers missing that should be stateside and listed. Some are clear omissions like Vassalotti, Westbrook, J. Gray, Alex Hall, Zach Clark, Devanny, and Bello. I'm not too sure about these but I dont recall seeing they were let go: C. Leal, M. Wilson, Cipion, E. Martinex, J. Cabrera, T. Gillies, Schanuel, C. Sierra, Milligan, Begue, Yi, and Uribe. I count about 25 players that could be at AAA and AA each. So they will sign a few minor league free agents but probably not that many more than usual. A+, A should be fine. Plenty of players are available from the Rookie leagues that can fill positions. I think the minors is going to be very different than in years past. With the elimination of the Rookie and short season leagues, teams will want to get these players into games sooner. Sure there will be the Arizona complex, but that is less likely to be as structured. So you will see a watering down of the talent that we are used to seeing. Low A is going to have more younger players from the rookie leagues and recent draft picks and so on up. Plus, we dont know how teams are going to evaluate 2020. Some players played in independent leagues and probably worked with trainers and some players watched TV and ate Cheetos all summer long. We will likely see players who were in Low A in 2019 be pushed to AA in 2021 as they would have normally progressed if 2020 would have been played.
  18. I remember when we had 4 catchers on the 24 man roster. Nilsson, Surhoff, Joe Oliver, Matheny. With Surhoff and Nilsson as starting OFs. Not sure if they had any other Catchers on the 40 man roster. Man that was an rough year to be a fan.
  19. If the Brewers can get Santana for 6M, then vogelbach can be a nice complimentary player. Not a straight platoon, but just against tough RH pitchers or be the DH if that happens. Seems odd to be have folks complain about this signing this early in the offseason.
  20. Zach Green arguably becomes our best option at 3B and our best 3B prospect. Man that is a black hole of a position for the Brewers.
  21. I found this article that suggests the players will stay in the draft league after they are drafted: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/11/mlb-announces-draft-league-prospects-2021.html If so, I would still expect the top few drafted players to go straight to A level. I'm sure the "MLB scouts" that will be helping in the draft league will be more like "spies" to make sure pitch counts are not exceeded and players are not put at risk. No pitcher is going to go over 100 pitches in a game and probably will be more like 70. A draft league would be interesting especially if they end up televising games on MLB network prior to the draft. It would be fun for baseball die hards like us to watch games to see the players the Brewers are rumoured to pick.
  22. Can someone help me understand what is replacing the Rookie leagues? The draft league (discussed here: https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-draft-league-to-begin-in-2021) will play 68 games with it's all star game centered around the MLB draft (during the MLB all star break as discussed here: https://www.mlb.com/news/2021-mlb-draft-in-july-all-star-week). So I presume the league will play from June - August timeframe. This league will likely showcase some of the top prep talent available in the MLB draft. So, I would assume players that are drafted and signed would not stay in the draft league but instead would go to their new team's spring training facility (e.g. Maryville for the Brewers). Would they then play scrimmages against other teams in Arizona? sort of an unofficial Arizona league? Or would the players stay in the Draft leagues? I highly doubt that, since teams would not have full control over their new signings. Seems odd that the draft league would continue playing after the draft occurs as it will be pretty well decimated. I'm clearly missing something. Other questions: 1. By my count, the brewers have 200 some players still in the organization. So either the remaining ~70 players not assigned to a team will go to Arizona in extended spring or the Brewers have a lot of players to release yet. 2. Will we see more high draft choices go directly to Low A ball next year to get them playing in games as quickly as possible? This will result in sort of a watering down of the current A ball league as we previously knew it as more inexperienced players start at higher levels. 3. Do you think the Brewers knew this was going to happen when they made the long term committment with Maryville last year? Investing in that facility seems to be a good decision now considering how important it will be for player development
  23. It looks like he is also not aware the Brewers sign Latin players. Not a very in depth prospect review.
  24. P. Henry, QTC, Z.Brown, Francis, Webb, Hummel, Spanberger I think it is unlikely any of these players will be picked, though you never know.
