  1. At this point I'll take luck over what we have. Put Henderson in as the closer. I'd also make some changes. Free K-Rod! Callup De Los Santos
  2. I'd also like to see Pena and Hellweg as they are both on the 40. Maybe in the bullpen to keep their innings down. Others not on the 40 man: Burgos, Gennett, and Khris Davis will all need to be protected from the rule 5 draft this winter. It would not be surprising to see a call up.
  3. This is a nice problem to have. When Lucroy comes back, it will be hard to chose what to do. Keep Kottaras or Maldonado. Can we now say .... Catching WOAH SOLVDD!
  4. I can't "feel" for this guy. I don't know what his childhood was like, but no matter how bad it was you don't have to repeat the same abuse. What ever happened to "I don't want to treat people like how I was treated". He would know how bad it feels to be treated that way. A guy like this is deep down bad in my opinion.
  5. Is he any better than Maysonet? Don't know how they compare defensively, but it appears Maysonet may have a better bat. Then again, its a low risk sign so...
  6. Molitor is my all time favorite Brewer, but I can see why he doesn't feel as attached to the Brewers as Robin Yount. Robin was a coach for a while so he feels comfortable coming back. It's been almost 20 years since Molitor played here. Who is left that he would know? Uecker and Schroeder?
  7. Agreed that Gindl and Manzanillo are locks. A few others may be considered. What about Zarraga? Isn't he eligible. Signed on 8/14/07 but did not play in 2007). Even so, he would be unlikely.
  8. Didn't put my $0.02 in yet. I think this year the Brewers will have fewer callups and they will focus on "need" versus a reward of a good minor league performance. My view of the needs are 5 to 6 more players: 3rd Catcher - Maldonado PH with power - Gamel and/or Green LH RP - Braddock (if healthy), Herrera, Flores, or Meadows/Merklinger bCF / Pinch runner - Gomez (when healthy), or Gindl/Schafer RH RP depth - DiFelice, and/or Kintzler, McClendon (if not traded), Peralta, Manzanillo Meadows, Merklinger, Gindl, Schafer, Manzanillo, and Green are not on the 40 man yet, but will need to be protected from the rule 5 so they are possibilities.
  9. He's playing great defense, for sure. But he has a .367 ops for the Brewers. Small sample, but its not like he's out there raking. Lopez is not hitting either (nor playing defense) so he is not a better option. You may as well put Counsell out there for his defense or Josh W. for his bat. I'd be ok with the four headed platoon of Felipish Hairsell for now until Weeks gets back.
  10. The rotation has been awesome. Wolf has been on an amazing stretch. Who would have guessed that Randy Wolf would have the best ERA among our starters at this time in the season.
  11. Maybe this will ripple thru the minors. Nashville is short on OFs now. Komatsu to AAA and Khris Davis to AA? Maybe? DM: are you listening?
  12. Just to note, COTs says this about Betancourt's contract: So he will cost the Brewers $3M next year. That extra $1M may be going to Counsell. He and Betancourt would make a nice soft platoon. Should be easy for Craig to return now that they have a shot at the playofffs and he will have opportunity to play more often.
  13. Villanueva hasn't pitched since Sept 7th. Is this a sign they have no plans for him next year? He is a likely nontender.
  14. The Brewers have plenty of 40 man roster space. In addition to the six Mass mentioned above, Estrada will also be cut. That leaves the the Brewers with 8 open spots. I think the Brewers will add Peralta, Kintzler, Farris, Merkingler, and Green. Leaving 3 spots open for trades. They may even look to add from the Rule 5 draft.

  16. Surprised to see Merklinger and Fiers going to AFL. Both have pitched a lot this year compared to last year. Fiers only pitched 41 innings last year (as a reliever). He's at 118 now. Merklinger: 2008: 97 IP, 2009: 91 IP, 2010: 142 and counting... So much for the Brewers limit of 20-25 increase in innings from one year to another. Both have shown outstanding control this year (> 3:1 K/BB ratio). I hope the Brewers shut them down if they start getting wild in the AFL. No need to push these guys, I think they have shown enough this year.
  17. There should be a number of opening in the Brewers pen next year. I'm sure he will be given a shot to win a spot. However, he's likely to start in AAA and be the first option up when needed.
  18. If it weren't for Battlekow posting this, I would be skeptical. As this makes no sense. There is only 38 men on the 40 currently, so they don't need to make room for anyone. With the comments from the Brewers saying they are not calling up a starting pitcher, why would they do this? Bush is arguably their second or third best starting pitcher. He is a FA at the end of the season, but they gain nothing by letting him go now. Come on Battlekow, throw us a bone. What do you know?
  19. Farris, T.Green, McClendon, Hand, and Kintzler have to be added or risk losing in the rule 5 draft later this year. Of that group, I'd say Farris & Kintzler have a good shot at a callup. We'd still have to make room on the 40 man roster for them, which could be done by moving Zaun and Estrada to the 60 man DL.
  20. I sure hope we get something for Bush. I like Bush, but we are going no where this year, so we might as well try to get some thing for him. Even a middling prospect is worth it. I'm a Melvin backer but I'll be disapointed if Bush is still here.
  21. I wouldn't want Pods patrolling CF. He's more of a LF now, so you can't compare him to Gomez. A LF with 750 OPS isn't all that great. But he is an upgrade for LA over who they have right now, and he is inexpensive for this year and next. Not a bad pickup.
  22. Witrado with an update: Cain not officially called up yet. If he does get the call, I'm betting he will be on the bench. Hopefully they give him a start before he gets sent back down when Davis is activated.
  23. If its Yo going on the DL to make room for Cain, then this makes perfect sense. We don't need another bullpen arm and the only minor league hitters are Cain, Gamel, and Cruz. Might as well be Cain. He comes up for a cup of tea and then will go down when we activate Davis.
  24. I don't understand why the Brewers are going to drop one of their current starting pitchers for Davis. What has Davis done so far to show he will be better than anyone from the current 5? I'd prefer they work him out of the bullpen for a while until they make room for him in the rotation or trade him. It's not like he is making suppan-like money that he has to be given a rotation spot. He and Bush are basically getting paid the same amount.
  25. Be aware: Huntsville game is rained out, with a double header tomorrow. I'm on the cusp of being among the leaders. Going to try Lucroy one more time.
