  1. Have not seen a confirmation yet that it is Brantley. I hope it isn't but this maybe this is good timing. This may be the only day that it won't bother me. There is too much to be happy about right now!
  2. The answer is that the Brewers don't need to take him off yet. They have only 39 on the 40 right now. I would expect Richie to be dropped at the end of the season to make room for some prospects. But your right, he's done nothing to deserve being on the 40.
  3. Ryan Ludwick was considered a 4A player for years until he was finally given a real shot with the cardinals last year. Now look at him. You never know with players like Cruz. Which is why he will still keep getting a job in the minors and occasional opportunities in the majors.

  12. I'm with TB. That kind of thing is fine on monster blasts, but this one was pretty close to hitting the wall. Then again, hard to complain about anything right now. This run has been amazing!
  13. CC is amazing. I cannot imagine a better start for him as a Brewer!
  14. Please count me in. It would be a pleasure to come up with an excuse to miss work next Thursday.
  15. Bork: Cots Contracts has a detailed baseball glossary that covers all the transaction terms.
  16. There are two spots available on the 40 man right now. Two more could be opened up by transferring Capuano/Gallardo to the 60 man DL. Then there is Mota who I hope will be gone soon. That's five spots right there. You can also include Gardner who seems likely to be dropped at the end of the year. We don't know what all could happen over the next 7 weeks, but that seems like more than enough spots.
  17. Gamel has to be added to the 40 man at the end of the year anyways, to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. So I don't see that as a problem. But you're right about him and Nelson. They both would be just a LH bat off the bench. I'd say Dillard, DiFelice, TGJ, a LH power bat (see above) and a bC (either Rottino or Palmisano) are locks. The others are less likely. I'd be surprised if Stocker is called up. TGJ, Nix, and Iribarren can all fill his role (speed) and they can swing the bat a little.
  18. Congrats JJ. How long do you think it took them to decide on Hardy for the award? Five seconds? .600 BA and a measly 1.367 OPS. 5 2B and 6 HR in a week. I think some guys would be happy to have numbers like that for the month.
  19. Thanks Soup! Seriously, I think Suppan is a real team player. This injury sounds made up. I'm guessing he could have refused to go on the DL but instead is doing this for the team. There is obviously something wrong so maybe a couple weeks off will help him. Pure speculation on my part, but it makes sense. Gives the Brewers a couple weeks to figure out the bullpen.
  20. I agree with Al, I think some are underestimating the Dodgers here. If they are offering Laroche and Hu, that is not that far away from Laporta and Green. They both have had phenomenal numbers in the minors. I'd rate Hu better than Escobar. He has far better numbers overall. Just because in a small sample Laroche and Hu have not done well in the majors does not mean they are not good prospects. I think this will come down to if the Dodgers add in another big prospect. If Kershaw is added or another major league ready player, the Brewers should be out of it (at least I hope because that would be too much to pay).
  21. I'm not so sure. It's 4 years after they were "signed", 5 if they were 18 or younger at the time. Link. I believe they both signed in 2005, Aguilar was 20 and Rivas was 19. So they would be eligible after 4 years of being a pro, meaning this years draft (2005, 2006, 2007, & 2008). What I don't know is if there is some other exception that I'm not aware of. Baseball is famous for these. None of there rules are black/white.
  22. I've actually been looking at this recently. I came up with the below list of players that are eligible for the Rule 5 draft (P50 rating in parenthesis). I'm sure there are a few others. There is a lot of players on this list, but the way Melvin structured this year's roster he has a lot of flexibility. I could see 13 of the current 40 players that could be let go at the end of the year to make room for prospects (Branyan, Cameron, Capuano, Choate, Counsell, DiFelice, Gagne, Gardner, Kapler, Mota, Sheets, Shouse, Tavarez ). Need to protect: Matt Gamel (#2) - AA Angel Salome (#5) - AA Lorenzo Cain (#12) - A+/AAA Steve Hammond (#19) - AA Mike Bell (#27) - AA Derek Miller (#28) - AA Remaining P50 to consider adding: Josh Butler (#20) - A+ Alex Periard (#21) - A+ Darren Ford (#23) - A+ Steve Chapman (#29) - A+ Robert Hinton (#34) - AA Brendan Katin (#35) - AAA Chris Narveson (#36) - AAA Mark Rogers (#41) - A+ (DL) Patrick Ryan (#42) - AA Adam Heether (#44) - AAA Dave Welch (#45) - AA Charlie Fermaint (#47) - A+ Callix Crabbe (#48) - AAA Are O.Aguilar and A.Rivas eligible also? The rest: AAA - Steve Bray, Sam Narron AA - Dave Johnson, Mike Jones A+ - Kenny Holmberg, Josh Wahpepah A- - John Alonso
  23. Note that Crabbe isn't on the 40 man roster. While they could open up a spot by moving someone to the 60 day DL, I'm hoping that they instead give Brad Nelson a chance. With B.Hall, Dillon, Iribarren, and Counsell available, I think they could adequately cover 2b and SS for the short term.
  24. Great job as always! The surprises for me were: Brantley dropping to 11 and Cain rising to 12. Are these two really considered essentially equal prospects? Brantley is younger, at a higher level, and playing better than Cain. What tools does Cain have that make him such a high prospect (I'm seriously asking)? Also, what is holding Derek Miller back as a prospect? Obviously the Brewers are not real high on him since he is 26 and still in AA. He seems to be doing well right now. Again one of the surprises. I was thinking he was going to move up not down. I totally agree with the big jump up for Mike Bell. Funny, I also was just thinking he reminds me of Uggla somewhat. Hmmm, and Bell is eligible for the Rule 5 draft at the end of this year. Melvin, are you reading this...?
  25. Well, there it is! The post game interview should be interesting.
