  1. What are you expecting in return for him? I don't think anyone would offer much, and I highly doubt it would be a major league player that can help us next year. I say we keep him. Depth is a good thing to have, not just trading pieces.
  2. What was it that Yogi Berra said? "So if you get hurt and miss work, it won't hurt to miss work"?
  3. So I'd happily do Jenkins and either a prospect or a reliever like Turnbow or Wise, for Penny and Ethier I think Jenkins + a prospect/relieve might fall short of adding just Penny...
  4. Minor, but swap out Nix for Cirillo on your bench there.
  5. Maybe if they expand interleague play...
  6. I wonder who'll be on our 2010 lineup. My guess... C - Salome 1B - Fielder 2B - Weeks SS - Hardy 3B - Braun LF - Gillespie CF - Fermaint RF - Hart SP - Sheets SP - Gallardo SP - Inman SP - Bush SP - Villanueva (Lots of pitchers to choose from though, and how do they project who gets resigned? Just guess?)
  7. He's on the short list of untouchable. I disagree with this. He doesn't seem eager to sign an extention and is getting pushed around the field by other players. I just think if we trade him we could net a better starter than Westbrook. Maybe even someone like Jake Peavey, as he has been rumored to be available.
  8. I'll wait 'til I hear from KCasper13... Like has been said, yes to Kim, no to trading Hall (at least in that deal). Westbrook is someone I'd like to add, but not for that price. I do think we need another SP. EDIT: It is somewhat scary that the Hall trade makes pretty good sense. Cleveland needs a RH bat, we could use a platoon partner and a solid SP. Based only on the fact that the returns makes sense, it makes me nervous about its credibility. (The returns may make sense, but the values don't...)
  9. I don't care much about defense for our 1B or corner OFers, but I'll take a stud defensive catcher over a poor one with a slightly better bat. Same for SS.
  10. Put me down as not wanting to see Patterson in CF...
  11. Well, Phil Rogers just makes stuff up, so I don't put too much stock into his reports. But if we were talking with the Sox, I'd love to bring back Vazquez or Garcia any way we can.
  12. Mench and Jenkins gone for pitching... Hall, Lofton, Hart, Gross, Wilson Gwynn and Nix at AAA. Gwynn may have taken a step forward, but I think he needs to take one more.
  13. I think the trade today pretty much puts the kibosh on Zaun coming to Milwaukee. We'd have the best three-headed catcher in the league!
  14. I'd love to see Carlos trying to field grounders...
  15. Russ, how do you use the retrosheet.org data? How am I supposed to make that data readable?
  16. I don't think 12 mil per is all that terrible for 3 years for a guy who's probably going to give you a .800 OPS or so, with great defense and 20+ homers. Which is why Jenkins will likely have more trade value than some seem to think.
  17. This would be a wonderful signing. I would be very happy with it.
  18. FWIW, LA Times had a blurb listing the Brewers, Ranger, Giants, and Rockies as potential suitors for Lofton, though it sounded like pure speculation.
  19. And swipes more bases. I'd take Figgins over Roberts, but I still wouldn't trade a lot for him. Davis for Figgins and Mathis? Still don't know if I'd be happy, because I have this hope that Davis will be used to get a cleanup hitter after we add a different SP or two and then we sign Lofton. Lofton is still probably the smartest aquisition we could make.
  20. I like the pitchers a lot more than the hitters. I'd rather have Vasquez off the Sox though. The guy that we should definately call about is Peavey. I can't believe he is even close to being available. I would include one of Hall, Weeks, or Braun to get him.
  21. i couldn't agree more sbrylski, every post i've made involving anything about the roster for next year has included Gross in CF... usually with a platoon mate Brady and Gross would make a wonderful leadoff platoon. I just don't want to see in July Dave Roberts with a .345/.400/.745 line starting everyday over Gross who's holding a .380/.460/.840 line against RHP. (Gross' line v RHP this year was .400/.508/.908, so the potential is even there for him to well exceed my projection.)
  22. 2) Do you have an AMAZING rotation in a few years. Inman, Gallardo, Villanueva? This is the rotation I'm salivating over in three years: Sheets Gallardo Bush Inman Villanueva 1) Do you trade Gallardo? If so who? It would have to be something pretty damn good, young, and inexpensive. Crawford fits pretty nicely, but I'm not sure even he would be enough for me to think "great trade"
  23. Not sure why you don't send Gross out there full time to see if he can hit lefties at all. He basically would just need like a 700 OPS against them to make him a decent CFer. If I'm GM, Gross is my starting CFer and leadoff batter next year. I think he looked just as good if not better defensively as Clark. Also, if someone posts a .380, .381, and .380 OBP in AAA in each of three consecutive years and a career minor league total of .381, I think you can tell what type of player he is. He will consistently get on base. The question is whether his stats and talent would translate into the bigs. His first two tries were a bit weak - .311 in 148 PA's and .324 in 102 PA's, but last year he finally broke through, and posted a shocking .382 in 244 I think that shows that he's likely to continue to get on base in the bigs. He even was 14 of 16 in SB attempts in '05 (102 games in AAA), but that's not what I care about. If you can get on base at a .380 clip, you are my leadoff hitter.
  24. No thanks. Why go through pains of re-establishing him just to see him walk the next year.
  25. I would love to have Crisp. I think its somewhat odd he has yet to establish a good OBP in the majors. His minor leauge OBP was .374 in 6 seasons (with a .299 BA). If he could somehow break through and start walking a bit more I think he would be a great addition to the top of the order.
