  1. I was planning on just picking up a software like Rosetta Stone and taking it at least into the intermediate levels, and then seeing what my options are to go from there. Thanks all for your opinions so far. Straw, I'll definitely let you know if I'm interested in doing those programs.
  2. I'm unemployed and kind of bored... going to try to pick up a second language. I took some Spanish classes in the past, but I wouldn't have a huge head start and don't really factor that into my decision much. At the moment, I'm considering Spanish or French the front-runners and Mandarin or Japanese a long shot. I'm afraid I would find the eastern languages a little more difficult to learn and would lose interest. Any thoughts?
  3. Thanks to my exterminators for getting rid of the bed bugs in my apartment. But when you explain you are going to be spraying along the baseboards and outlets and I need to get everything off the floor, I didn't think I would need to cover my new plasma TV that's hanging 52" off the ground. The spray spots you got on the screen have now turned into streaks that I just can't get off. Thanks!
  4. Anyone know what time this is scheduled to resume tomorrow?
  5. I was using my Aiwa stereo as a passable surround sound setup with my old TV. Got a new TV, and have the following problem: The new TV only has optical digital audio output. The stereo receiver only has component input. I dug around a google search or two, but I think the collective mind of BF.net will give me a more concise and accurate response. What are my options to make this work? Preferrably, what is the cheapest option?
  6. The TV deal that saved (for now) the Big 12: Source That article also says they will not be changing the name of the conference. Odd. Does that indicate that they recognize the Big 12 is even more unstable now, and might not last long enough to make changing the name worthwhile? Or would that be reading into it too much?
  7. As soon as I heard the initial reports of them being close to saving the Big 12 today, I really started to wonder if the Pac talk from Texas was all posturing to get Beebe to beg them to stick around and give them whatever they want to make that happen. Do I get points for thinking that all along? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Well, I thought Texas' ultimate goal was to shed the political connections with the other schools that would allow them to join the Big 10 solo. But I did think it was posturing of some type, I just didn't see the Pac 10 move as making sense.
  8. I don't know. The regents meet tomorrow and they have a press conference scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.Yeah, but that was the exact reason we were supposed to believe the Pac-10 deal was done, because there was an upcoming meeting and press conference. But now it means they're announcing they will hold the Big 12 together, and that this decision would be final? By stalling, I mean Texas gets everyone to say they'll work together on a new Big 12, and that removes all pressure for them to do anything right away. It will also move the blame for the breakup of the Big 12 to A&M, as they will be the ones to leave, cutting the league to nine and killing the conference.
  9. I think Texas is just stalling. Either they don't want to go to the Pac-10, or they don't know what they want. They know the Big 12 will be done for as soon as A&M goes to the SEC, so all they are doing here is buying a week or two, or however long it takes for A&M to bolt.
  10. Chip Brown is now writing that the Big 12 might survive with Texas supposedly changing their minds about the Pac 10. (Though as I said earlier, I was never convinced they wanted to go there anyway.) LINK It'll all depend on Texas A&M now, who still could bolt to the SEC, leaving the Big 12 with just nine teams and probably the final dagger. And in terms of my Texas to the Big 10 prediction, I'm now thinking Oklahoma would have to go the SEC as well for it to happen. As long as Texas can stay with Oklahoma (or A&M), I think they will if it means the Pac 10 - but definitely not the academically non-existent SEC.
  11. SEC is a terrible academic conference. I don't think Texas would consider going there. If A&M and Oklahoma bolt for the SEC, I think at that point Texas pulls the plug on the Pac-10 and leans back to the Big 10, which is what I'm pulling for.
  12. Stuff like this leads me to believe Texas hasn't really decided anything yet... Source Maybe, for the sake of politics, they are trying to push A&M to the SEC by feigning Pac-10 interest (which A&M doesn't like), and once they're off Texas's back they'll flip flop to the Big 10, who maybe doesn't want A&M. Or maybe more likely, there is a faction at the University of Texas that still want to join the Big 10 that need to be convinced. But I don't think anything is over yet.
  13. I'm not sold Texas really wants to do that. I think they're just helping to break up the Big 12 to give them freedom, and gaining some leverage in negotiations with the Big 10. I think their meeting Tuesday is possibly there way of giving the Big 10 somewhat of a deadline to cave into some of their demands, whatever they may be. Maybe I'm reading way to far into it, but something just doesn't seem right about the popular rumors.
  14. Am I the only one who still expects Texas to join the Big 10?
  15. I don't really think geography has much to do with out - only to the extent that it influences rivalries, and the peanuts in travels costs that it adds to the big picture. I don't know which rumors to believe, but it sure seems to me that Texas's best fit is the Big 10 - money, academics, prestige... only ego and politics would hold it back, but with Big 12 allegiances fading each day and Oklahoma being the first team from the Big 12 South to consider breaking the brokered Pac-10 deal, Texas ego is the only hurdle left. They don't hold much leverage with the Big 10, because they should know that the Pac-10 will never be a better option than a fair inclusion into the Big 10.
  16. Interesting that at this very moment, the Big Ten, Pac-10, and Big 12 all have 11 teams.
  17. New source... http://chicago.sbnation.com/2010/5/18/1477553/big-10-coaches-meet-in-chicago That's a great read that explains the motives very well. Also links to this quote... More linkage: http://frankthetank.wordpress.com/2010/06/10/its-all-about-texas/ In essence, both sources are saying Texas always would have preferred the Big 10, but didn't have the freedom to chose their own destiny. But with the SEC now wooing A&M, who doesn't particularly want to join the Pac 10, Texas may now be free to do what is best for them and only them, that being joining the Big 10. And the window is right now. In other words, this is all a huge mess, who really knows what's true and what is not, and I can't imagine being behind the scenes right now. Multi-million dollar game of poker going on.
  18. Wow, imagine getting Texas, Nebraska, and eventually Notre Dame. That has to have been the best-case scenario for the conference, and it is currently looking extremely plausible.
  19. Stop resisting... change is coming! The Big Ten already has decided to expand, that argument is moot. Is it a Notre Dame or Texas? No. But... Missouri has elevated its profile in both football and men's basketball the last few years, competing for the Big 12 title in football two years ago and reaching the Elite Eight in hoops last year. There's little doubt that Missouri could be a first-division team in both sports in the Big Ten if it joined the league today. The school has upgraded its facilities, which are some of the best in the Big 12. It would have little trouble recruiting at the same level as most Big Ten programs. Heck, Missouri already recruits against Illinois and other Big Ten schools. Missouri would give the Big Ten a greater presence in the St. Louis market. Sure, it's not New York, but New York will always be a pro town, while St. Louis could become a true Big Ten city with fans of both Missouri and Illinois, two teams that happen to play there every year in football and basketball. 21. College football is a mess as is. What's so great about the current six major conferences?
  22. Lucroy has better CS rates in the minors than Corporan. I don't think this move would make any sense. Corporan Lucroy
  23. I wouldn't go that far. That would put the Big Ten at 13, I'm assuming that they'll try to get an even number as long as their expanding. Also, if Notre Dame wants in, the Big Ten will take them in a heart beat.Notre Dame won't want in if the conference is going to expand past 12 teams. At least that's my understanding. I also think the Pac 10's play at a 16-team super-conference will push the Big Ten to go for 16 teams as well, with Missouri being the second add after the dissolution of the Big 12.
  24. Nebraska to the Big Ten by Friday Things are heating up. Missouri likely to come as well then, and this should rule out Notre Dame.
  25. Macha brought it up in the postgame interview, I know. Said something like "they had a couple of days to get on the same page, and they didn't do it"... sounded like he was mad or disappointed in them. He said "they" though, and not "Jon", so he was blaming both of them.
