  1. In defense of Chat Roulette, I've used it a time or three and had enjoyable conversations with people around the world - China, Germany, Kansas, Canada, etc. Of course I agree it's not for kids, but it's not only a worthless and hedonistic corner of the web. It is what it is.
  2. Especially because Civ V is coming out in just weeks!!!
  3. Be someone a little bit different. Take a second tier team, like F.C. Porto.
  4. I just replaced the screen protector on my HTC EVO because it had an air bubble under it. Now I have three air bubbles under my screen protector. Fail.
  5. Curious, was he safe on the dive back to third base anyway? It looked pretty close.
  6. Similar to the Dustin Johnson PGA story. A rule is a rule.
  7. It would be nice if they let him start about four months of next season in AA/AAA, and then use him out of the major league pen during Aug/Sept to keep his innings down. Get him around 140. Then he would be in line for a rotation spot to open the 2012 season.
  8. I'm going through the couple of thousand emails I had in my inbox over the course of my most recent 2.5 years of college, and seeing if I need to save anything because my account is expiring. It's very sad. EDIT: Ha, just found one I sent out at 5:09 AM on a weekday saying: "I'll call you tomorrow afternoon when I wake up." Ahh, college.
  9. Have to disagree here. He should have happily taken his base the first time, which he did. Getting thrown at a second time was overkill. I'd probably have done the same thing. Why? What did it accomplish? Getting yourself kicked out of the game for a few days.
  10. The Marlins were stupid to throw at him once (when he proceeded to steal his way around the bases, like any major leaguer with the ability should have done) and were stupid to throw at him again. Morgan should have happily taken his base. Instead, he charges the mound, which should probably be reserved only for throws at the head, if ever. Both parties were stupid. EDIT: And going back to look at the home plate incident that started things with the Marlins, I'm not totally sure I fault Morgan there. It's not like he's watching the throw come to the plate... he had to decide when he was 10 feet up the baseline whether to slide or truck, and even with that excuse card to play, he might have choose the right one. He doesn't look safe beyond doubt if he had slid.
  11. I've also started watching EPL matches on Saturday mornings, so I'm looking to pick a team as well, EPL though. I might try Manchester City.
  12. Speaking of human looking dogs...
  13. EVO owners: How's the screen color and brightness? One of the things that bother me about the reviews I read is that the screen always loses out to other phones, especially the Epic. But I wonder if that's only because they're being compared side-by-side. As in, maybe it's not as good as the screen on the Epic, but it wouldn't be noticeable if you didn't have an Epic in your other hand.
  14. Yeah, at the moment I'm trying to talk myself into liking the look of the Epic. It would be an easy decision then.
  15. I'm okay with paying an extra $10 a month for one of those two. The Epic seems to have everything you would need. The only thing is, I like the look of the EVO much better. The Epic looks almost like a toy next to the super sleek and professional looking EVO, in my opinion. And that's important to me, I want to like how it looks. http://gadgetwidgets.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/evo-4g-vs-epic-4g.jpg
  16. Making the jump to smartphone. Settled on Sprint. The question... HTC Evo, or Samsung Epic? The Epic might be harder to get, and would be $250 compared to the Evo's price of $200. Anyone want to chime in and help with the decision?
  17. It's almost impossible to not vote Ruth here. C Gibson 1B Gehrig 2B Hornsby 3B Schmidt SS Wagner OF Williams OF Cobb OF Bonds DH Ruth SP W. Johnson
  18. The Dude: Walter, ya know, it's Dustin, so his club touched the sand in the disguised bunker, big deal. It's just a game, man. Walter Sobchak: Dude, this is a major championship, this hole determines who enters the playoff. Am I wrong? Am I wrong? Dustin Johnson: Yeah, but its not a bunker. Gimme the marker Dude, I'm marking it five. Walter Sobchak: [pulls out a gun] Dustin, my friend, you are entering a world of pain. The Dude: Walter... Walter Sobchak: You mark that hole a five, and you're entering a world of pain. Dustin Johnson: I'm not... Walter Sobchak: A world of pain. Dustin Johnson: Dude, he's your partner... Walter Sobchak: [shouting] Has the whole world gone crazy? Am I the only one around here who gives a about the rules? Mark it seven! The Dude: They're calling the cops, put the piece away. Walter Sobchak: Mark it seven! [points gun in Dustin Johnson's face] The Dude: Walter... Walter Sobchak: [shouting] You think I'm kidding around here? Mark it seven! Dustin Johnson: All right, it's a seven. Are you happy, you crazy ? Walter Sobchak: ...It's a major championship, Dustin. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2r6lrKXAJvQ/SD1l8FBrKjI/AAAAAAAAAY4/X9hGgDjeN0o/s400/walter_sobchak.jpg But seriously, they made the right call. I'm guessing most who disagree don't golf much, don't have all the facts, or are operating on false assumptions. EDIT: Sorry, forgot to edit the language before I clicked post. Fixed right away.
  19. You gotta be super careful with correlation studies, as Funketown pointed out. I've seen regression studies that conclude stolen bases have a negative correlation to wins, meaning each time you steal a base you are less likely to win. Total nonsense. All it illustrates is that bad teams tend to use the running game more often. So any correlation of UZR to wins or even runs scored isn't very meaningful, at least in terms of determining how important defense is. Maybe teams with really bad pitching staffs compensate by signing good defensive players to try and get slightly better. What might result then is likely a negative correlation between UZR and runs scored, because the terrible pitchers are still giving up more runs than average, despite a great defense. But despite the poor correlation, that defense is still helping.
  20. Cain strikes out at about two-thirds the rate of Cameron, and should hold a higher batting average. But I'd love to see Cameron's 25-30 HR power out of Cain in his prime.
  21. Here are the top comebacks of all time: http://www.coolstandings.com/comebacks.asp?i=1&sn=2010 At 0.1% odds of making the postseason (rounding up), only one team in baseball history made a comeback with worse chances - the 1914 Boston Braves. There are a couple recent teams with under 1% odds that ended up making the postseason, but don't get your hopes up.
  22. No, I don't think we were suggesting it would. But I don't think the club would give up the necessary value solely from our minor league system for Greinke, it's too much. If we can use Fielder to help make the trade, it considerably lowers the strain we would put on the farm system.
  23. Since most agree that Prince will be traded this off-season would a 3-team trade make some sense here? Brewers get Greinke while keeping the farm system in tact, Team X gets Prince, and the Royals get prospects. I agree that this would be our only chance at him. I don't think we would part with the prospects necessary from our own farm system.
