  1. This excuses nothing. There is no form of reporting, or even simple conversation, that isn't subject to a moral code. It's subject to readers'/viewers' judgment as to whether or not they want to read/look. Obviously it doesn't meet your moral standards, and that's fine. The debate over whether or not morality is subjective of objective is for another forum. I will say that I lean towards the latter and therefore reject you justification of Deadspin above.
  2. No, that makes more sense. Thanks.
  3. I think there's just enough slots to fill that a 0 - 2 WAR upgrade is always available. If a team had only 3 slots to fill, I think the 4 win player would be worth non-linearly more. Can you clarify or reword this? I have read that value is paid linearly. I don't know the why, because intuitively I'm with TLB. You appear to be stating the why here, but I don't follow. (Maybe because its 3 AM.)

  5. Chances are, at this point, there's some truth to them. Screw integrity. We'll play the odds! I hope they get sued and lose. A couple times.
  6. Does he still have that? Awesome! Brewers need to lead the way bringing back mullets and handle bars. Can you imagine Prince with a mullet and a handlebar stach? EDIT: Now you don't need to imagine: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d175/sbrylski06/PRINCE.png
  7. Umpires have capably been ruling on sac flies for over 100 years. This is a McClelland's a complete doofus thing, not an umpires are incapable of making the call thing. In a diagram I entirely spent too much time on, I illustrate how easy it is to see both at once, if you're standing in the right spot: http://gickr.com/results2/anim_dcdb1534-c8ce-5154-7545-d970315bd04b.gif One thing you don't ever, ever do, especially in a playoff game, is call a guy out for leaving early when you actually didn't really see what happened because your head is stuck up your you-know-what.
  8. It bugs me that somehow all the money I made this summer is basically gone already.
  9. Here's one study that kind of gets at the question: http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/2009/05/findings_from_t.php I only read the first half, and not the part about pitchers velocity, but it seems to conclude that in terms of how much they are paid, player value is linear. Of course, that might just be because it is an inefficient market, and there's an advantage to be gained here through proper analysis. (And here's a quote from Bill James used in the linked article that might state what you did in the first post a little better: "Talent in baseball is not normally distributed. It is a pyramid. For every player who is 10 percent above the average player, there are probably twenty players who are 10 percent below average.")
  10. Maybe old news, but because I had been searching for these since I first saw them last year... Current Logo - Ball and Glove Logo Pretty much the perfect hat.
  11. Tried it before I read that. I'll probably try the tech support.
  12. But the thing is the battery itself seems to work fine. It charges, and the machine runs off battery power for over an hour. I haven't had to use it any longer than about an hour and a half since this problem first occurred, so I don't know how long of a charge the battery is holding and whether that's diminished or not. The problem is just that the machine no longer tells me how much charge I have left. It either says full power, or no power. This might be accompanied with a shorter battery life, which I might test out tomorrow just so I know. Its a problem I can live with, its just kind of annoying.
  13. Samsung NC10.
  14. My netbook is about six months old. The battery itself seems fine, but the power icon always reads either full power, or zero power. I've been trying to figure out when it reads what, and it seems like it reads full power after letting it charge overnight which is normal, but once I start using the battery power it doesn't gradually go down. Instead, once I shut it down and then reboot it, if its not at full power it reads 0%. It'll run fine at 0%, then eventually die without any warning. I never run the laptop for longer than an hour or three a day, so I don't know if I'm not getting a full charge or anything (I'm supposed to get like 6 hours of battery life.) Any ideas on how to get my battery power indicator working accurately again?
  15. The balloon (20 ft x 5 ft) doesn't seem to be big enough to lift a 50 pound kid. I don't think he was ever inside.
  16. Wow, am I the only one who didn't like it? I found the Kleenex boxes quite unfunny, and nothing else really sticks out as hilarious. The full soda cans was kind of funny and the Oscar/Kevin partner thing, but Dwight's storyline wasn't funny, Michael wasn't really that funny, Jim didn't do anything funny, I already said Kevin's storyline wasn't funny to me... I think there was a full half hour block in there that I didn't laugh once. And what's weird is I have found just about every prior episode funny, even when consensus here was that it was a dud. I'm opposite everyone else.
  17. LaPorta to miss 4-6 months after hip surgery - LINK He'll be 25 next season, won't be around at all until about April, and has essentially done squat at the big league level so far. I think we would all be a bit nervous about his future right now if he was still with the club.
  18. He would be a very good pickup, I would imagine. Everything seemed to check out in his return - fastball velocity was still there, still had a good groundball rate, BB/9 was exactly at his career mark... The only flag I see is that with the weak elbow, he stopped throwing sliders in favor of cut fastballs. His slider has traditionally been his #2 pitch, and he did not nearly get the same results out of his cutter last season.
  19. Lopez's career OBP is .338, and was as low as .308 two seasons ago. I'd say Gamel has a good shot at having a higher OBP than Lopez next year, both will probably be around .340-.350. Even McGehee will probably be around that mark. One half season doesn't define a player. Lopez can come back as a super-sub, otherwise let him walk, and explore the trade value of Gamel and McGehee and trade the one we get the best relative offer.
  20. You shouldn't be. Fear over the LHC is silly and uninformed.
  21. Brett will ask to go in as a Brett.
  22. I thought it was quite funny.
