  1. Thread bookmarked. Once I get a job, this will come in handy.
  2. If I knew they were to put up those exact lines, I'd say player B. Those singles over walks add up I would say. However, if this is a one season sample, player A probably has more upside. He has more power and a better eye at the plate. An marginal increase in his BA will add more value than the same increase in player B. A .236 BA is also slightly more likely to regress to the mean and increase next year.
  3. You seem a little too good at that. Wow, what's your real name? Hitler?
  4. I have to think Cameron for Kennedy is easily a good trade for the Brewers. Looks like Kennedy would be under control for 6 seasons to Cameron's one at market value. And I would say Kennedy should be at least a Dave Bush, good chance he's better.
  5. In the Post a reply screen, the colors are opposite. Weird, they aren't for me.
  6. Splitter, where are you getting your info? This is the third time in the last two days you've tossed something out without a citation. I believe you, just curious.
  7. That's interesting, but its not on there.
  8. This post I'm typing right now will show up white for me. Reply 2 is gray.
  9. There was a domestic dispute of sorts on the sidewalk outside my place last night at around 3:30 AM. There was a girl screaming hysterically and when I woke up and got to the window I saw her sprawled out on the ground with a guy standing next to her trying to convince her to get up. I was going to go out and see what the problem was, but a neighbor beat me out there. Soon after the cops arrived. I'm curious to find out what happened. Is there anyway to look this up? Or is that privacy invasion or something. It was practically in my driveway (though I'm renting, not the owner.)
  10. Why would the Dodgers consider trading him? That just seems weird.
  11. Sorry if I missed it, but is the article adjusting how much Peavy is worth with expected changes in the overall market? If he isn't factoring in increases in the average contract value, then he's going to underestimate his NPV.
  12. If he said he wants 4 years, he might get 3 or 2 with an option. If he says he wants 6, he might get 4 with an option or 5. Why not ask for it? You're going to lose a few bidders I guess, if some smaller payrolled teams wanted to help drive up his price, but you're still going to have at least 2 or 3 teams submitting offers.
  13. I went as Mose Schrute (no chin beard though, so just tape on a shirt - yeah, I get into it), and I surprisingly saw another one. He had a chin beard though and was carrying around some beets, so he was the superior Mose.
  14. So, who's going down to State Street? Also, I was down on State today and saw someone wearing a "Down with OBP" Brewerfan t-shirt.
  15. What do they charge for commissions?
  16. Bruce officially has the coolest costume so far.
  17. The more I try to find a trade or a piece together a 2009 roster at least as good as this season's, the more I find that it just might not be possible. We'll either suffer a bit in the rotation if we don't make a trade (and open up the chance for another Suppan-esque signing), or we'll suffer a bit on offense with a good bat leaving in a trade. Nobody in the minors is immediately ready for OD (Escobar bat, Gamel glove), so we'd be trying to execute a brittle plan of fitting together the right veteran stop-gaps. Its been easy to not get my hopes up so far, but I'm beginning to believe that resigning Sabathia at reasonable cost (avoid severe winner's curse), is our only short term hope. And failing to achieve that might result in pushing the system too hard and thin and mucking up the long term a bit as well. I haven't suggested this ever, but I'm starting to think retaining Sabathia might be more imperative than the risk of the contract. At least if that contract goes bad, for the life of it we should have our second wave of prospects in Jeffress, Gamel, Escobar, Green, Salome and Lucroy, as well as youth from a Fielder trade in the offseason following 2009. We shouldn't exactly need a lot of financial flexibility in the next few seasons to maintain a core. Who's in line for the next long term contract? Gallardo a few years away, and maybe Hardy if he accepts a position change? Parra maybe too early to tell? So my 2009 roster looks much the same as 2008. Ink Sabathia, 5 years into the $140's if we have to. Probably try to retain Durham, semi-platooning him with Weeks and playing the hot hand. Maybe Lamb is a stop-gap answer at 3B, or maybe we can find a better option almost as cheap. Hall platooned, super-subbed, or traded. Cameron retained. Gallardo in for Sheets. Sign a guy like Dennys Reyes or Joe Beimel for the backend of the pen.
  18. These are nuts! Keep them coming! I've never experienced anything like these stories. Not sure if I ever want to, but very interesting.
  19. There's thread on Halloween ideas that has slipped to page two, but that was about yard decoration, so I started a new one about costumes. I'm not a flashy guy, I have no money, and I don't want to get teased for wearing no costume. So I need subtle ideas. I don't want to paint or wear anything on my face, and I'd like to wear as normal of clothes as possible, and preferably warm. My first idea so far is Mose Schrute: http://remote.lohudblogs.com/files/2008/02/mose.JPG Shirt is easy, and if you're a watcher of The Office, it'll be very recognizable. Only problem is I have relatively thin facial hair, and thought of this about an hour after shaving yesterday. 6 days without shaving under my chin would probably not be very noticeable. So it might be just the shirt. But, big plus for being dressed like my hero, Ken Tremendous. Any other ideas? (And feel free to use this thread for all Halloween costume ideas, not just specific to me.)
  20. Kinsler is probably as or more valuable than Fielder. Kinsler out OPSed Fielder last season.
  21. What? Blake will surely get more than a 1 year deal for $6M. He OPSed over .800 twice in the past three seasons, and has been about a .345 OBPer. He should be in line for a pretty nice payday, in fact.
  22. Macha really does make me sick. I haven't heard one good thing about him. He's the only one of the three that are not strategically inept.
  23. I'm fairly certain it means there is a 15% chance he hits those numbers.
