  1. I wish it were over. If it were over today, the Brewers would be in the playoffs.
  2. I'd take him on as a replacement for Mench. Ensberg is a lefty killer and a high OBP guy.
  3. MOST players have used steriods, and many still use preformance enhancements. Why Bonds take the majority of the hate for it is obvious, but I think we will find out more and more in the next few years about what has been going on behind the scenes and will learn that Bonds really didn't have much of an advantage over his peers, including the pitchers. Put his record in its proper context, just like with any other record. Tony Gwynn's .338 career batting average might be more impressive than Babe Ruth's .342, due to the era it was accomplished in. But Babe Ruth's 714 home runs might be more impressive for that same reason.
  4. I think the real question is whether it will effect him at the plate?
  5. That's silly. Because of a sensationalist media covering something as meaningless as a traffic chase, with helicopters no less, that guy gets slapped with the liability in this case? That's awful. While I find it hard to understand how two professional pilots can crash into each other like that, likely at a relatively low speed, I'm totally fine with piling as many charges as possible onto the guy leading the chase. Why would you have sympathy for that guy?
  6. I would absolutely love to grapple the ash for a team like that.
  7. Thanks BillScott, I wasn't sure if the compensation had changed or not, but now I remember it was just the type C.
  8. Where was the post detailing the exact picks we'd get if he was a type A free agent? I can't seem to find it.
  9. Just so very dissapointed we couldn't land a guy that could close in '08.
  10. Well, I can usually talk myself into liking what Melvin does. I had thought Linebrink had another year on his contract originally, its too bad he doesn't. I also thought: Gwynn < Inman, Garrison, Thatcher Otsuka > Linebrink The most dissapointing thing about this trade by far is not giving up Inman, but its not landing a guy that can be our closer in '08. That could cost us money, wins, or Ben Sheets.
  11. Found the culprit of his high FIP. His HR/FB rate doubled this year, good news is that this should be straightened out with a larger sample. xFIP, which assumes league average HR/FB, puts him at 4.70, still not good, but better.
  12. Linebrink has actually gotten roughed up a bit so far this season. If the Linebrink of the three seasons prior shows back up, then this will definately be a boost to the pen. If he pitches like he has so far, we could see him struggle a bit. His current '07 FIP is a poor 5.69. I agree with Ennder's comments about Inman. I had much more reserved optimism with Inman than I did with Gallardo. Garrison and Thatcher are no slouches either. This trade could really go either way, but I'll bet the odds are for the Padres in the long run.
  13. 1. I never knew the girl in Mean Girls was the same as the one in Wedding Crashers. She is so much hotter in Wedding Crashers. 2. I love Tina Fey.
  14. I prefer desktops simply for ease of upgrading. My computer is just a year and a half old and already a bit out-dated, yet instead of laying down $900 bucks for a new one I could spend just ~$250 and its good as new.
  15. Yeah, blind bidding would work too, but then it'd be nice to diversify the players "on the block", and I wouldn't want to miss out say on Alexander because I was hoping to get LT.
  16. BTW, I passed this game in two sittings yesterday. Great game.
  17. Well, that's 5. Can we get 5 more?
  18. I believe it was the smart call to bring Balfour out there to start the 12th. But once there was 2 on with none out, that's a time you bring in your best reliever, because without holding them now, you'll never have the lead. Problem there is its impossible to get him ready in that short of time, and impossible to foresee needing him. In short, there was nothing Yost really could do tonight. Balfour lost the game, simple as that.
  19. What!? And change the batting order again!? I just don't see any realistic trades out their for offensive upgrades. Some depth maybe, but I'd argue we don't really need it and it would be making a move just to make a move. Same goes with starters. The only thing realistic at this point to me is grabbing a reliever like Benoit. If you are expecting something big, I'd prepare to be a little let down.
  20. Weird. I'll give it a little more time before I completely dismiss it, but its not looking true to me.
  21. Drew Carey reminds me more of Rod Roddy than Barker.
  22. i really think this is an old, banned poster...it looks like baiting to me. I really think that it might be best to assume he's not and maybe try to make him/her feel welcome...
  23. I have to dissent on both Giles and Sanders. Giles is 36 and hasn't hit for any power this season or last. He still walks, but his power outage makes him a well below-average hitter for a LF. I think its very unlikely that he's even an option, but for argument sake... Giles 2007 Home - .238 / .360 / .294 / .654 Away - .336 / .413 / .455 / .868 - 42 doubles, 12 homers in 162 games Smaller sample, but its true of his entire time in San Diego, I'm just to lazy to post the other years of splits. Here's a link to his splits. The ballpark does hurt him a bit. EDIT: Not quite to that extent though. Don't want to mislead.
  24. Yeah Drew Carey! I really like him and think he will do excellent! That's very exciting, I think they picked the right guy.
