    Crewcrazy, I believe they traded Chris Young for Javier Vazquez. I thought that was a stupid trade at the time, but that looks worse than I thought now. Vazquez had a $12 mil a year contract...

    Its playing the probabilities. There is no magic number a guy will get injured at, nobody is disputing that. But the study mentioned shows that there is a big jump in the likelyhood of an injury once a pitcher goes over ~20 innings more than they did the season prior.

    I thought about this too last night, but didn't say anything because I began to think of all the leads our middle relievers have recently blown - and they haven't been small ones. I think a big part of the decision to leave him in was because of lack of confidence in the bullpen. And its not like Gallardo threw 120. He threw about what he would have expected to throw regardless of offensive output, I believe he ended up at 91 or 92...

    The Sox are the stat-guys glorious achievement this season, as the statistics predicted a big fallout. So not everyone is suprised.

    I wouldn't thin our depth too much... Sheets - Gallardo - Suppan - Capuano - Bush 6. Parra (who might not be ready for a full season of starters work) 7. Villanueva I sure hope our '08 closer isn't already on the roster, and I think we could use another reliever on top of that.

    People are going to be all over Yost for the loss today, but its just as much Turnbow's fault as anyone's. In a 3-run game, you make the defensive replacement expecting the bullpen to hold the lead.

    I can't believe how quickly you guys can turn on a player. He was the consensus #2 before the season started. He's obviously struggling right now, but why is this half season more important that his past 2.5? This season, he's getting more groundballs and even striking out more. His K/BB ratio is the 2nd highest in his career. I'm sorry to generalize like this, but wanting to trade Capuano seems like a emotion-based idea a casual fan would like to see. (That's if your main reasoning is "he sucks now", which it kind of sounds like some of you are saying.) We do have an extra starter we can trade, however, and still maintain solid depth. Sure, Capuano is an option to trade, but I'd rather keep our better starters and trade the guy that most likely will get booted from the rotation next season anyway, Claudio Vargas. Any ML pitcher will have value. I would compare Vargas' worth to Rod Lopez's this past offseason. Baltimore was able to net two solid mid-level pitching prospects for him, and he was coming off a 5.90 ERA season. That's what I'd rather do, anyway, rather than sell low on Capuano.

    If they are going to miss the playoffs, let's make that for certain this week. Getting eliminated during the final series would hurt more. I'll take the optimistic approach, which I enjoy taking... Brewers: 83 (16-12) Cubs: 81 (13-16) Cardinals: 81 (16-15)

    Brewers players are blaming their loss on Uecker getting the crowd pumped up? I'd really like to know which players think that, because that's a really crappy thing to believe.

    You won't pay Jenkins $9mil for 1 year but you'd give Eric Byrnes a big contract? I'm going to guess Jenkins option gets picked up, though it could go either way. Yes, it might be a slight overpayment, but its a one year deal. Anyone worth a crap in FA will be too expensive, and anyone comparable to Jenkins will be about the same price and for 3 or 4 years. We do have a starter to trade, and I'm still going to assume it'll be Vargas. Gallardo takes his spot, and Bush has to hold off Parra and Villanueva. I don't think Villanueva's potential as a starter would be much of an upgrade over Bush, and Parra might need another year to gear up to a starters role. Depth is good. Linebrink and Cordero are gone, and let's please get a Sheets deal inked. $60 over 4 years? That leaves a hole at closer, but we should be able to net a solid one using Vargas, Bush, or Capuano, and possibly a spare part or prospect as well.

    Cool, we may not be done. I'd love a Gwynn for Gagne deal, and I'd have to imagine Gwynn is out best trade piece. I'm not sure how I'd feel about giving up one of our three young starters, but for a 2 month player, I'd be pretty dissapointed.

    Home ERA - 3.73 Away ERA - 4.60 Home FIP - 4.06 Away FIP - 4.09 Overall ERA - 4.14 Difference in pitching preformances looks to be mostly luck. BABIP is the culprit, with it being better than average while at home and below average on the road.

    My understanding is he doesn't listen to what the team tells him to do in regards to his delivery, pitch selection, etc. Wha? A Latin player that can't be controlled? Sheffied lied!
