  1. Just want to chime in to say I think Ponytail does a great job as moderator. Whoever banned those guys deserves a pat on the back.
  2. Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to early to start worrying about a season ending injury. I'm not a worrier, but when they might do an MRI, I'm going to be a little concerned.
  3. That could potentially be a season-ender for the right-hander. Ugh is all.
  4. Wow, talent explosion in the MIF. # of Players >.800 OPS C - 1 1B - 8 2B - 7 3B - 5 SS - 6 LF - 10 CF - 3 RF - 5 Total number of MIF = Total number of CIF. Odd.
  5. Gallardo and then when Sheets comes back Vargas to the pen. Baby Gallardo and don't let him go deep into games, try to always keep one of the CV's ready for a long relief stint in his starts. I'm starting to think this too. However, I hope Vargas is being offered in most trade talks DM is in right now. I'd rather add Otsuka to the pen and use Vargas to net something else or more in the potential Texas trade. Much easier said than done, of course.
  6. I'm just throwing this out there because I'm really not sure, but is there still really any significance to having a left-handed starter or two in the rotation? No, not really. You might say it keeps hitters "off-balance" or whatever if they face a RHP one day then a LHP the next, but I think its highly, highly, unlikely having a mix is going to win your team games.
  7. Why do you think Cappy would have a mid to low 4 ERA the rest of this year when his history shows he wilts in the 2nd half, producing a 5.13 ERA over the last 3 years. All indicators are he'll do that, or worse, the rest of this year. What's to say first/second half splits will carry over from year to year? All indicators said he'd have a very nice first half, and that didn't really happen. Also, why does dealing Cappy mean we'll keep Vargas? Do you think we'll keep both CV and Parra out of the rotation next year? Remember 2006? You can never have enough pitching. We had "enough" starters last December, but then DM signed Suppan anyway. Parra is no lock to do much of anything at the big league level yet. Have you considered the possibility that Capuano could be packaged with some of our depth to get a good starting pitcher? Okay, who's available?
  8. I'll take someone playing "over their head" verse someone that couldnt hit the broad side of a barn. But there is no reason to believe Roberts will continue to hit over his head. Why can't we understand the Weeks was playing over his head as well last year. Because he's a Brewers doesn't mean he'll pan out, or that they never play over their head. I'm a stats guy, no secret, but I'm listening to the scouts here. When they tell me a guy with great minor league stats has the potential to hit even better in the bigs, why can't I trust them a little bit. They know a heck of a lot more than I do about a baseball swing. I'll take Brian Roberts over the fact he HAS hit well unlike Weeks who hasn't and may never. Again, this is where we only see the word potential being used. Well, its risk verse reward. You want the guy that you know will be a little above average for you, or do you want the guy who could be even more than that, but might never be more than average? This risk/reward, salary, age, even things like team chemistry (best friends with Fielder) all accounted for, I'm fine with sticking by Weeks for longer than 3 months post-surgery. Another thing I want to point out is Weeks injury. We might never know if he'll ever be fully recovered. So a healthy Roberts who can actually hit is always a better option over an unhealthy Weeks. I too think Weeks' star has fallen a notch. Even then, he still have the "potential" according to both scouts and stats to be much better than Roberts. Again, its risk verse reward.
  9. Everyone could tell Cappy and Villanueva were done, but Yost kept them both in way too long. So just run through the entire pen then, eh? There is more to bullpen management than just taking a pitcher out when there's trouble.
  10. I sure hope Melvin and Co. don't have the same attitude that a lot of people around here do...that everything is OK, and everything will work itself out. So if we don't make any major moves, and we make the playoffs, will you admit you were wrong? Many players have went through very rough weeks and months, and then snapped back out of it. These last few weeks have convinced you that Capuano will never be better than a 5 or 6 ERA pitcher? And again, who's to say Gallardo or even Villy will be better than a 4.5 ERA starter? If you would trade Capuano now for junk, just to "get him out of here", then I'm glad you aren't Doug Melvin. We'd be seeing Capuano pitch elsewhere next season (or maybe the rest of this season) with his usual low-mid 4 ERA while we pay Vargas over $4 mil to put up a 5 in Milwaukee. Then we'd trade him for garbage too. Soon, we'd be left with nothing but garbage. Maybe I'm a little too harsh on you there, but like I said, we are just on the bottom of the rollercoaster right now.
  11. He plays in a park that gives up the least number of HR in the majors, that's why he gets away with giving up too many walks. Career Home ERA - 3.16 Career Away ERA - 5.03 Even if I did want him, there is just no way we would/should pay what they are going to ask.
  12. Why isn't anyone blaming Yost or Maddux? Because its not their fault. Managers and coaches get way to much blame when things go wrong, and just the right amount of credit when they go good, very litte. Its easy to look for a scapegoat, however that's unlikely to solve much.
  13. He'll hit around .300, get 10-12 hrs, steals, and has average defense. Yet you rather keep Weeks!? He's hit .300 just once in his career for a full season and has hit more than 10 HR just once. Last season, Roberts BA/OBP/SLG/OPS was all within 5 points of his career averages, and he was 9th among qualified 2B in Runs Created per Game, to take into account SB. A little "Above average" might be a little better label, but he's no super-star himself. In fact, Weeks' partial season last year ranked better in RC/27. This season Roberts is playing very well, but why should we expect that to continue when we have years of data telling us he's playing a bit above his head? A healthy Weeks is Brian Roberts, but with more overall potential, especially power.
  14. Rickie's struggles were predicted before the season even started. Coming back from that wrist surgery is supposed to be tough. Rickie's talent and former top-prospect status has given him great expectations to live up to, but for this season, your expectations should have been lowered somewhat because of his wrist. It probably effects his long term expectations as well. Where he used to be pegged as a 30+ HR guy, I'd say around 20+ is more realistic, but to have expected him to get there this season was ignoring the significance of his surgery.
  15. Nobody agreed with me about moving Cappy a few weeks ago, I wonder if anybody has changed there mind Not me. I was told a few weeks ago not to deal him when his value is at its lowest, only to see it go lower. More reason not to trade him. What will he be worth in the offseason after he spends the last month and a half of the season as a bullpen mop-up guy? He won't. I know many get tired of it, but his FIP (4.38 ) is better than his ERA (5.16), and that 4.38 is about how we should be expecting Cappy to pitch. We are just on the low part of the rollercoaster...
  16. Anyways i posted on a Braves Forum, and they seem to think he's worth Gallardo, another said Gallardo and Hart. We are overvaluing our players, and they are theirs. This is true 99.9% of the time.
  17. While I like Bush as much as the next guy I am beginning to wonder if he is one of those bad luck guys. His numbers will always look better than he actually is. One year is just fluke. Two years is the start of a bad trend. Last year he wasn't that unlucky. And this year is only half over. I'm looking for him to have a big second half.
  18. Russ, are you being sarcastic? This is just statistical noise. I would say the split to look at and try to fix is home/road.
  19. I'll agree with MolitorFan. I don't have the time to read through all the Link Reports everyday. It'd be nice to have all that info, and maybe a little more consolidated about a single player put in one location. But I'm on the fense about the whole idea.
  20. TI-3VOM
  21. Jon Stewart doesn't seem to realize his show is not a real news show. Well, it kind of is now. And frankly, its about as good as FOX, IMO.
  22. DOA, are you guys hiring? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. Well, maybe she should wear some clothes. (But I'm totally fine with it if that's what she wants to wear!)
  24. Vargas will not be on this team next season, I'm 95% certain. If we can get good value for him now, you do it.
