  1. Cordero and Linebrink are gone and I sure hope Turnbow isn't our '08 closer. I predict our offseason trade this year will net us someone that can fufill that role for us. Not necessarily a proven "closer", but a cheap younger pitcher that either closed or set-up well for someone last season. Wouldn't hurt to add another guy on top of that through free agency to boost middle relief.
  2. I see the resemblence, but I think our BuckyTuba's a much better looking dude. Harts' not the most pretty, IMO. I'm not gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  3. I actually like that aspect of the show. That's what the show is about, IMO, with all the crazy characters and much of the humor going on around them.
  4. Heights, but I'm gradually getting over it. My goal is to one day learn to hang glide. I'm also afraid of whales. Do you realize how big those things are? Imagine being underwater and seeing a foggy outline of an 80 foot whale in the distance....shudder.... http://www.wetasschronicles.com/WhaleDiver.jpg
  5. Maybe a college arm this time too.
  6. Good post, Louis. The "legal/illegal" argument holds no water with me - the issue is that it creates a competitve advantage that not all players have or have had in the history of the game. What makes Ruth's 1.113 OPS in 1919 better than Bonds' 1.128 OPS in 2000? Ruth's OPS+ was 219 that season compared to Bonds' 191. You have to compare a feat, be it Bonds' HRs or Roger Clemens' Ks, to the state of the league if you are going to to compare across different eras. The state of the league over the past decade was one full of PED's, and I don't think that makes the stats any less valid. It would be a lot more complicated if only ~30% of players were using PED's, but I think its actually in baseball's favor to find more and more players that were using. If it can be shown PED's were being used by as many as 80% or more, which I think is actually fairly likely, I think it restores a sort of even playing field, however distorted it is.
  7. I can't remember what I was watching today (maybe PTI) but someone had a good point. With so many players "doing something wrong" does it make what Bonds has done more OK than if he were the only one to use anything bad? Since most players have done something wrong, the playing field was level and nobody had a huge advantage over the next person. Just asking Definately. The uproar is because it is believed he had a competitive advantage, which we may find out is not true.
  8. I predict 90% or more of professional baseball players in the past decade "did something wrong", so I'm able to easily overlook this a bit.
  9. First four episodes will be an hour long!
  10. Bill Hall's LD% is actually up this season, so he's hitting the ball well. Last year he had a very high HR/FB rate, so its very possible that 35 will be his career high HR total. As always he could stand to walk a little more. I think last season gave a bit of a false impression of Hall. He's still a very good CFer, and in a season where he's switched to a dramatically different position and spent time injured, I'm okay with some down numbers. I think he'll bounce back nicely next season with a mid-800 OPS and ~25 homers.
  11. I have always said I think his power potential has been knocked down a notch after his wrist and thumb problems, but his potential used to be 30-40 homers. I think when he was drafted many were looking for a very high batting average, but I think he'll always be a higher K guy based on his entire professional career to date. But even so, a .280+ BA with 20-30 HR and some big time plate discipline starting to develop all coming together would create one super second baseman, without even mentioning 30 steals.
  12. Well, can't you contact the seller to see if he's sending or has sent the item?
  13. I'm rooting for Colorado or LA to win the WC, and Arizona to win the West. I'd love to face Arizona in the 1st round, then have Colorado or LA take down the Mets for us. That's my ideal postseason.
  14. He's reached base 19 straight games. He definately has been a spark to the offense over the last 3 weeks.
  15. I like the concept. In danger of taking this thread in the wrong direction, I want to disagree with your "YFOI". I'm predicting that the more we learn about the past decade, the more it will become apparent that taking HGH was the playing field. NOT taking it would put him at a disadvantage to just about everyone. I obviously have no real facts to back that up, but you don't really either to disprove me. (Yes, I know its a fairly weak argument, but I do just encourage people not to get too passionate about all the PED scandals until much more of the story gets out.)
  16. How about this? Jack Z. for Jason Bay I'd almost say no. Actually, yeah, I'd probably say no.
  17. If that mosquito doesn't exist, maybe we win that game. If we win that game, maybe the Cubs don't win the pennant. If the Cubs don't win the pennant, maybe some teenager in Chicago kills himself/herself out of frustration. That teenager might have grown up to become a doctor, and eventually cures your good friend's cancer. If you go back in time, don't kill any mosquitos.
  18. Cubs are down 6-0.
  19. Not just Jack. Melvin can trade a Fielder or Braun a year before they hit free agency and bring back a stud prospect or two.
  20. Also at the time Suppan's $12 mil is wiped from the books. Yes, it'll be a big decision, but I don't see why the Brewers wouldn't be able to resign one of these players, likely the cheapest. Signing Hardy (Hopefully something like 4 year / $50) or not signing Hardy, we won't be laying down $150+ for Fielder.
  21. What's your point? Hardy is a solid SS that is loved by many fans. Just because he's the first up for a contract doesn't mean he's less likely to be resigned. I do think if we resign him it'll end up being an indication that we won't be able/willing to really dish out the money to Fielder.
  22. I guess I too could see Corey Hart and say J.J. Hardy being the ones around the longest. Hopefully another go around for Sheets, and then pass the contract down to Gallardo after that. So far it looks like the prospect cycle is gaining momentum though. We have legitimate star prospects and players already in place through 2014, and their arrivals and departures are decently spaced out.
  23. He might be able to, its pretty close. That doesn't change how long the Brewers own him though, it only changes how soon we have to pay him more. He better not, that'd be a 12+ million dollar oversight by the front office. I'm assuming they did the math and made sure, or else they would have waited another week to call him up.
  24. Brewerfan.net Salary Page Link That link is a nice table of all the players contracts. Basically, every player is under contract for their first six season, with the first 3 at about league minimum salary. This season doesn't count for Braun, because he wasn't called up right away, which was a big reason for keeping him down for April.http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewTeamSalary.do?teamId=1
  25. Well, Fielder is under contract 4 more years, Hart 4 more, and Braun 6 more. A lot can happen between then and now. I would say pick two of Gallardo, Braun, Fielder, Hart, Hardy, Weeks, and LaPorta to be in Milwaukee longer than their 6 seasons. Three if things go right financially for the franchise over the next 4-6 years (i.e. playoff revenues, new TV contract).
