  1. I would much rather sign Greinke to an extention(5 years $80M - pretty much the same deal that Wilson just signed), than to go out and give any of the remaining FA's a big deal. I think they have to focus on an extention with Greinkie, but pass on Marcum. I don't think it would be a good business decision to have that much $ tied up in 3 SP. I think they can go forward in 2012 with the rotation they have now and either allow Marcum and Wolf to walk at the end of the season, or trade one of them mid-season. They have to start to trust that some of these young SP will develop and could fill out the back 3 spots in the rotation behind Yo and Greinkie. I even think they could afford to deal one of Marcum, Wolf, or Narveson before the season starts, as I think they have 7 true options that could start the season in the rotation Yo, Greinkie, Marcum, Wolf, Narveson, Estrada, and Fiers. I also think Peralta should be ready to join the rotation by the all-star break, giving them 8 options over the course of the 2012 season. I know this is looking forward a little too far, but a 2013 rotation of Yo, Greinke, Peralta, Narveson, Estrada, Fiers doesn't sound too bad by me, and relatively inexpensive to be able to spend some more on offense. By 2013, maybe Bradley or Thornburg would be ready as well.
  2. Wishful thinking here, but I wouldn't mind flipping Hart to the Red Sox for a decent package of prospects and then do the following: Deal Marcum to the Marlins for Logan Morrison (maybe another player added from each side - but the two of them being the main pieces) This gives the Brewers a SP pecking order of Greinke/Gallardo/Wolf/Narveson/Estrada/Fiers/Peralta heading into 2012. Put Morrison at 1b, Green at 3b, and Gamel in RF. This would save about $16 million in salary for next year (about $60 as a total 25 man payroll at this point) which would allow the Crew to really go after Reyes if they wanted and still have some room to go after one or two higher priced ($3-$5/year set up men) as well as having a very RH/LH balanced lineup. Lucroy/Morrison/Weeks/Green/SS/Braun/Morgan-Gomez/Gamel
  3. I really like the idea of moving Hart to 1b next year, if they can go with good options in CF. With Hart being drafted as a 1b, would there be any concerns about him needing time to adjust back to 1b, or would a winter and spring training be enough? I'd love to have a 6'6 target over there for the INF to throw at. As a previous poster mentioned, I'd be fine with Braun in LF and 2 platoons in CF and RF. Braun - Morgan/Gomez - Schafer/RH stick (Ross/Johnson/Willingham/Katin?) You need 5 OF anyway, so why not get them all involved, but the offense could be seriously lacking in power.
  4. i had the same thing young guns, then i was only able to get 2 obv421 tickets, and they wouldn't let me try to get 2 more tickets for game 3 even though i only order 2 for game 2
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=110915/loganmorrison I believe this is what Briggs is referencing by possible attitude issues. I think those are some attitude problems I'd be happy the Brewers take a chance on. He has still put up some pretty good numbers despite having a really tough year in terms of personal issues. After having an offseason to clear his head and make sense of what's going on in his life, I think he'll come back guns a blazin next year and his all out play. I wonder if Peralta or Thornburg and Khris Davis would be enough for him. Actually a really good story from ESPN that doesn't involve NY or Boston.
  6. He was a 1B throughout his minor league career and had to shift to LF because the Marlins already had Gaby Sanchez. My question is, what would it cost the Brewers to get him from the Marlins? I think he'd be a perfect fit to replace Prince in 2012 and beyond.
  7. I'll go with : Brewers 4-8 @CIN (0-3), @ CHC (1-2), FLA (1-2), PIT (2-1) STL 9-4 @PHIL (2-2), NYM (2-1), CHC (2-1), @HOU (3-0) Arizona going 2-1 in each of their three series left for a 8-4 mark ATL - 8-4 NYM (3-0), @ FLA (2-1), WASH (2-1), PHI (1-2) Brewers clinching on the last day of the regular season and having the #3 seed and the Braves holding onto the WC.
  8. +1. As much as I like Prince, he's going to get way more $/year than what the Brewers can realistically give him and still stay competitive.
  9. I agree as well. Get Bradley in the fold, and use the money from Jungmann to sign a few of A. Cain, Smith, Rodon, Amaral, McFarland, J.Smith or whatever other late round picks they think are worth it.
  10. The Brewers are obviously cheating some how. They should not be scoring more than 3 runs in the first inning today. That is not classy at all.
  11. Sent you a PM about one of the balls.
  12. because he dealt away the entire farm to go for it this year/next year, but in doing so put together a mediocre team. terrible D at 3B, terrible D at SS, terrible D at 1B, so-so D in RF (hart), below average D in LF, so-so D at 2B. that negates this good starting rotation he put together a huge black hole on offense at CF,and SS. below average offense at C. only average O at 3B and RF (sorry, but neither Hart nor McGehee should be two of your 2/5/6 order hitters on a contending team, maybe one of those spots + 7th). That is not the team you put together when you deal away the farm to put a team in "win now" mode. He also has no prospects to deal at the deadline to make a splash if the team needs something for a push, to go along with the terrible depth on the team. Also, with the winning under 85 is a major disapointment, I disagree with this, there was a 50/50 chance this team would finish with 85 wins or less, so I don't see how under 85 would be a major disapointment if it was a coin flip finishing above or below this line. (I say this because Vegas had the over/under for Brewer wins this year at 85.5)
  13. Dream scenario: The Cubs finish with the 16th pick for the 2012 draft, then Prince signs for 8/160 + with the Cubs. How sweet would that be to take the best available pick away from the Cubs, while they take on another awful contract. See: Soriano, Alfonso; Zambrano, Carlos; Ramirez, Aramis; Fukudome, Kosuke.
  14. I think this season was a big disapointment, but I put a large amount of the blame on injuries. Only 3 guys on the team played more than 70 games (Dooling 80, LRMBM 79, Salmons 73). You cannot win with an inconsistent lineup in this league. The starting PG was out 20 games, the starting SF was out 32 games, the starting PF/C was out 50 games, the starting C was out 20 games, the main backup PF/C was out 20 games, you just can't win with numbers like that. It all started in training camp when Salmons was out a while, as well as CDR with the eye issue and just kept getting worse during the season. However, a few non-injury related issues really bothered me during the season. I don't understand how Dooling was getting the backup SG minutes over CDR. CDR was exactly what this team needed in the second unit coming off of the bench, and I'm going to be mad to see him go after this year. Also, when Jennings was back, there was no reason to have Dooling and Boykins on the floor at the same time, and I felt like it happened in most games, and I'd turn the channel because there's no reason for that to happen. The team really needs a true backup C. With Bogut missing games every year, there's even more of a reliance to having a quality backup C on this team. I really feel the team had too many guys to play too few minutes, I posted this before the season even started, and with the injuries occuring, there was never a flow to the team and no one ever knew their roles, unlike last year's team. Over the last 10 games, why oh why was Redd getting minutes over CDR? That just baffles me. If this team gets healthy for next year (which it should, as long as Bogut's recovery from surgery goes well), I think a starting 5 of Jennings - Salmons - Delfino - Gooden - Bogut can really compete in the East next year. I really think Jennings is the weakest link on that unit though and he really needs to pick it up ( I won't rehash any more of the Jennings debate). The main question to me becomes, what role do the bench players have then? I honestly would rather see LRMBM start, maybe over Gooden? The team just seems to play so much better when he's on the floor. Dooling - ? - ?/Maggette - Ersan - Gooden as the next 5 off of the bench? But then what do you do with Sanders? He really needs to get some PT next year. The team has a lot of really solid players, but no real superstars, and no real defined roles as of right now, except for Jennings, Salmons, Delfino, and Bogut. I think the big need this offseason is fitting all the pieces in the right places. I really like Ersan as a player, but I feel like he might be more valueable to the team as a trade chip. If the starting 5 would be Jennings, Salmons, Delfino, LRMBM, Bogut, the second 5 Dooling, SG, SF, Gooden, Sanders. Where does Ersan fit in? And where does the 2011 first round pick fit in?
  15. Does every thread have to include shot at Betancourt? In case you are unaware, Brewers have committed 4 errors (3 by Weeks) all season, the lowest total in the NL with Betancourt as the SS. It's easy to not commit an error when you never get to a ball that's hit anywhere close to you.
  16. Wow, if you think the DJ Newbill situation means Buzz should be labeled as dirty, over 90% of D-I basketball coaches should be labeled as dirty. If you look in the dictionary of "dirty" basketball coaches I would say Calipari, Pearl, Sampson would be at the top of the list. Not to mention the next tier of Calhoun, Michigan, etc (schools and coaches that have actually been disiciplined). It's not like Bo has never forced a player out of Wisconsin.... Name one player Bo forced out. I am going to be waiting a long time for this answer. I said it was shady and I stand by that. He recruited a guy and the guy signed a letter of intent and then he booted him. Unethical and shady. No doubt about it. You can make the excuse that everyone does it but that is not the case. I think there are a lot of coaches worse than Buzz but that does not make it okay. I am not the only one who thinks this was a shady move by Buzz because there were a ton of people calling him out after that. If you think it is fine whatever, but dont act like everyone does it when it is just not true. They acted like there was a paperwork problem to take away a kids scholarship so they could give it to someone else. This athlete is bound by his letter of intent yet Buzz just cut him. I love how hard Buzz gets his team to play but this was wrong. I also think 90% is ridiculously high. Oversigning.com does a good job looking at this issue. Here is their, obviously a little biased view, on the situation. Edit - i dont want to turn this into a bash Marquette thread. My initial post was into response to why some thought Buzz was dirty. I am just giving the main reason. You can disagree with me. But hopefully we dont have to rehash this stuff. Ian Markolf. Sorry to make you wait 6 hours for an answer.
  17. Maurice Acker? After Buzz's first season, and when his buddy he went to HS with (Jerel McNeal) graduated from MU, but Acker still had 1 year of eligibility left from having to sit out a year when he transfered to MU from Ball State. He was never kicked off the team. He had quit. He was supposed to graduate in winter, but ended up needing one or two more classes than he could fit into his schedule. Then Junior Cadougan tore his achillies and the PG situation looked really dicey, so Buzz went and talked him back into playing and Mo went onto having a really good year last year. How about those guys from Madison who were kicked off the team for stealing stuff?
  18. What rumors have you heard about Buzz, and where have you heard them? Read up on the DJ Newbill situation. Pretty much yanked a scholarship from the kid so that Jamil Wilson could transfer. Newbill had signed a letter of intent to Marquette and when Wilson came available Marquette used some pretty shady tactics to drop him from his scholarship. I have yet to meet a Marquette fan who could justify what happened there. It does not make Buzz a terrible person but it is pretty shady.Wow, if you think the DJ Newbill situation means Buzz should be labeled as dirty, over 90% of D-I basketball coaches should be labeled as dirty.
  19. Because he's a cheating piece of scum. I would hope MU holds itself to a higher standard than wins alone (although based on some of the rumors about Buzz I'm not so sure). What rumors have you heard about Buzz, and where have you heard them?
  20. MU picks up another great athlete/scorer, Todd Mayo, brother of OJ Mayo, committed to the 2011 recruiting class. The future looks really good for MU.
  21. I would have been a lot more excited for the offseason if the Greinke trade didn't happen. This team up the middle is terrible, sans Weeks. Lucroy(whatever other C replaces him early in the season), Betancourt (or possibly Cruz) and Gomez/Dickerson is just downright terrible, and not a sign of a contending team. Yes, the starting pitching is very good, which will make the relief pitching even better, but the pitcher's can't strike out everyone. This team won't be able to make outs on balls put in play. McGehee, Betancourt, and Fielder are terrible, bottom 5 in the league, defenders. Braun and Hart are below average in the OF as well. They'll have to start Gomez in CF just to make up for those 2. I really hope Lucroy's offense improves this year (his minor league track record looks like it should), but if it doesn't, that's possibly 3 black holes at the bottom of the lineup, Gomez, Betancourt, and Lucroy. I hope Dickerson gets some ABs, because I think he's the best hitter of that bunch. The starting pitchers might even be better hitters than Betancourt and Gomez.
  22. Hopefully this helps the Cubs achieve the 16th best record in the majors this year, so when they sign Prince in the offseason, the Brewers end up with the 16th pick!
