  1. junior guerra starts the first game of a doubleheader today at iowa.
  2. suter has only burned one of his three options in 2017. guerra, as referenced earlier, could burn his final option in 2017 if he isn't recalled soon.
  3. we'll see how long the club goes with 13 position players, but at least for now, on the 25-man roster, the brewers have plenty of infield depth. the brewers made quick use of that depth yesterday by starting neil walker at third, and have stated that he could see action at first as well as his primary position of second base. but still, there is a true lack of reserve depth on the 40-man roster for infielders (only yadiel rivera) . . . part of that is due to the unusual practice of carrying four catchers on the 40-man and part of that is due to thus far (knock on wood) being able to handle day-to-day injuries (i.e. travis shaw) with other infielders on the 25-man.
  4. .182 / .182 / .364 slash line for vogt over three games with the timber rattlers. should be on his way to des moines to join the sky sox, who start play there tomorrow.
  5. not a chance. suter, having already burned his 2017 option, could have been optioned to make room on the 25-man. the optional assignment would've required a minimum of 10 days, as does the disabled list. suter will be earning major league service time and the major league portion of his pay while on the disabled list. Of course there's a chance. 10 days of service time probably never even cross David Stearns(') mind. What may have crossed his mind would be sending a guy down who's pitched well for most of the year...probably well over his head and helped keep the Brewers in it and given that he's likely to come back just in order to clear a roster spot for the next 10 days and taking one and a half big league checks away from the guy. Again, something that would be of almost no consequence to the big league club, but for a guy who has never made any money and who's earned it this year, is probably pretty significant. I doubt there's anything wrong with Suter other than convenience with regards to roster manipulation. it's already been well established that brent suter is the back and forth guy in 2017. he's already been recalled five times by the club. optioning him again (if he truly wasn't injured) would save the brewers money, and i can't imagine the brewers deliberately choosing to fake an injury so they could pay him more, especially when they were off the hook for 10 days of major league pay last year when they optioned zach davies over the all-star break.
  6. news that we're all aware of, but there should a thread devoted to suter's injury and recovery. with two off days this week, and an off day each of the following two weeks before september roster expansion, the brewers should be able to find ways to skip suter's slot in the rotation. craig counsell stated it's a mild rotator cuff strain, and that it's affected a decrease in his velocity. no timetable has been given for suter's return since being placed on the 10-day disabled list yesterday.
  7. great to see this thread locked. clearly, it was because too many posters were misspelling the manager's last name.
  8. not a chance. suter, having already burned his 2017 option, could have been optioned to make room on the 25-man. the optional assignment would've required a minimum of 10 days, as does the disabled list. suter will be earning major league service time and the major league portion of his pay while on the disabled list.
  9. updated per this tweet . . . today: matt garza monday: off tuesday: zach davies on four days' rest wednesday: jimmy nelson on four days' rest thursday: off by this point, friday's starter could be matt garza or brandon woodruff, and either would have at least four days' rest.
  10. the two off days this week have worked quite well in the club's favor, given brent suter's injury. today: matt garza monday: off tuesday: brandon woodruff on five days' rest wednesday: zach davies on five days' rest thursday: off friday: jimmy nelson on six days' rest saturday: matt garza on five days' rest sunday: brandon woodruff on four days' rest chase anderson could return to start by wednesday of next week on four days' rest (he's starting today for colorado springs).
  11. with the trade for neil walker, room needed to be made on the 40-man roster. michael blazek was designated for assignment to open up a spot for walker on the 40-man. brent suter was placed on the 10-day disabled list to make room on the 25-man roster. blazek was about to burn his final minor league option, as he was approaching 20 days optioned. the brewers have seven days to try to trade, release or outright blazek to the minors. if blazek goes unclaimed, he has the right to refuse the minor league assignment and become a free agent. the 40-man roster remains full.
  12. not at all true.
  13. two off days this week. an off day in each of the final two weeks of august before september roster expansion. when neil walker is activated, a reliever has to be dfa'd to make room for him. there's no need to carry eight relievers during this stretch. then option barnes and recall wang, ensuring that neither burns an option.
  14. the beating travis shaw took last night will force the brewers to want to keep an extra infielder for at least the coming days, so it's a reliever designated for assignment to make room for walker. if shaw goes on the disabled list, an outfielder will be recalled to allow hernan perez to focus on playing the infield and give the brewers a backup in center field.
  15. the 40-man is full.
  16. after batting second last night, arcia is back to eighth tonight.
  17. important to take note of regarding junior guerra's future in the organization in this thread . . .
  18. advantage to optioning barnes next week: if recalled in september, he wouldn't burn his 2017 option (having spent less than 20 days optioned). advantage to dfa-ing drake or torres: it opens up a spot on the full 40-man roster. advantage to the brewers' pitching staff the week guerra would need to be recalled to preserve his final option: two off days, plus another off day the following week.
  19. depending on how things shake out with the scheduled doubleheaders next week in iowa, junior guerra may only have one more turn in the rotation before he burns his final option. the brewers may be planning on recalling guerra next week just to preserve his option for 2018.
  20. vogt starts his rehab tonight. three games with class a team, and then three games with class aaa team. just my luck, his rehab assignment will likely end in des moines on thursday, one day before i'm going to see the sky sox play.
  21. a slightly better performance from junior guerra last night, but still not promising. 75 pitches, only 40 for strikes. 4.2 innings, one earned run with two walks and zero strikeouts.
  22. if only curtis leskanic was still active . . . "kick me" . . .
  23. arcia is batting second tonight.
  24. anderson's second rehab start will be sunday in colorado springs.
  25. vogt should be starting a rehab assignment tomorrow or saturday.
