  1. promising performance from guerra last night at round rock: 58 pitches (38 for strikes) over 4.1 shutout innings. two hits, four strikeouts and two walks.
  2. 3.0 back for second wild card, and 3.5 back for the nl central lead. i don't know much about the rockies' september reinforcements, but i'm sure excited about what the brewers have with their reserves. tomorrow's roster expansion can't come soon enough.
  3. keeping in mind tomorrow's deadline to set postseason roster eligibility, you're cutting garza, which opens up one spot on the 40-man roster. who takes his place? again, if the player isn't on the 40-man roster or 60-day disabled list by tomorrow night's deadline, he can still help the brewers in september, but would not be eligible for any postseason games. this thread is devoted to how you'd shape the 40-man roster (and possibly the 60-day disabled list) by tomorrow's 11:00 pm central deadline.
  4. but who are your et cetera? wang and jungmann are already on the 40-man, so they're already eligible for postseason play. if dfa-ing garza and torres before thursday's deadline, you're creating two spots on the 40-man that could be filled by postseason-eligible players currently not on the 40-man.
  5. 11:00 pm central on thursday 31 august is the deadline for the brewers to set postseason roster eligibility. the brewers don't have any obvious candidates to place or transfer to the 60-day disabled list, so it's whoever's on the 40-man as of that thursday night deadline that the brewers can use in the postseason when they set their 25-man roster for each round of play. keeping in mind that the club's postseason hopes may lie in a one-and-done wild card game, what move(s) would you make on the 40-man roster by 11:00 pm central thursday? note that the 40-man is currently full. i'd dfa carlos torres and select the contract of quintin berry. he'd be used only in the postseason to pinch run, and would also help the club in september. i'd consider activating and immediately dfa-ing andrew susac if it was needed to open up a 40-man roster spot for another player in a trade, but only if jett bandy was assured of being able to return from the disabled list.
  6. nine consecutive games starting tuesday, so a fifth starter will be needed over the weekend--which fortunately, is in september.
  7. showing it as moved (literally stating "moved") will encourage people to detour to that forum and see all of the threads speculating on the development of future brewers. keeping it in the minor league forum won't.
  8. Unbelievably, that's more than they got for Scooter. the brewers got $50,000 from the reds when scooter gennett was claimed. do you have confirmation on the amount of money that the rangers are paying the brewers for paolo espino?
  9. agreed. anything that revolves around a transaction involving the 40-man roster belongs in the major league forum. in the case of aaron brooks, he was added to the 40-man roster and sent on optional assignment to the minor leagues. he still has a major league contract that he has not been waived from. and as i suggested initially, any spring training non-roster invitee in major league camp should be in the major league forum. i still have an issue with this thread being in the major league forum. it's about a player that's yet to be placed on a 40-man roster. if the thread about speculation on which players to protect from the rule 5 draft is in the minor league forum, then a thread on corbin burnes should also be in the minor league forum.
  10. if used as a starting pitcher in the postseason, rick sweet could ensure that wilkerson pitched on the road. the first round, they would be playing games three - five in memphis. for the second round, they'd also be playing games three - five on the road.
  11. andrew susac is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment this week. would be a candidate to be activated in september.
  12. susac is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment this week and likely will be activated in september.
  13. i can understand why wilkerson hasn't been promoted to the big leagues yet, but it's puzzling why he hasn't been given a shot at aaa this year. biloxi's playoff chances are slim, whereas colorado springs' chances are very strong (magic number 4). perhaps when some aaa players are recalled in september, wilkerson will be asked to pitch for colorado springs in the playoffs?
  14. he's the only optioned infielder on the 40-man roster. as mentioned in this thread, that's a severe lack of depth. rivera's burning his final option this year, and the because the brewers have been inclined to carry a 13-man pitching staff for most of the season, there really hasn't been any room for a guy out of options to keep on the 25-man roster (i.e. ivan de jesus, jr.). thus, any other infielder in the brewers organization added to the 40-man roster would most likely have be optioned, and if spending more than 20 days optioned, would burn that option. no reason to swap another guy now for yadiel rivera (although at this point, the brewers could outright rivera today, add dubon to the 40-man, option him, and recall dubon in september--well before the 20 days are up).
  15. i thought about quintin berry also, but i'm a really big fan of kyle wren. i really want the brewers to have a decent outfielder that makes the club out of spring training with three minor league options remaining. i'm sick of the kirk nieuwenhuis and ramon flores experiments. granted, the brewers could add berry, cut him in the offseason and then add wren to the 40-man, and i'd still be pleased with that.
  16. i'm hoping for: outright yadiel rivera, add mauricio dubon after colorado springs' postseason ends outright aaron brooks, add kyle wren after colorado springs' postseason ends transfer andrew susac to the 60-day disabled list, activate jett bandy 1 september, add jacob nottingham if bandy can't return by second week of september activate brent suter 1 september recall junior guerra, brett phillips and wei-chung wang 1 september recall taylor jungmann and brandon woodruff after colorado springs' postseason ends
  17. susac will enter 2018 spring training with one minor league option remaining. the three other catchers currently on the 40-man will be out of options in 2018.
  18. webb has burned his first option. wang was optioned 3 august, so his 20 days limit is approaching. wang has burned his second option. i think the brewers planned all along to add him later in the season . . . if i recall correctly, he had his contract purchased because josh hader (and maybe some other relievers) had just been overused and the club felt they needed a left handed arm. it's a win for the player to burn an option, but a loss for the club. had they waited just a few more weeks to add wang, it's very likely that his second option could've been preserved.
  19. wei-chung wang doesn't want you to know that outside of this thread on 40-man roster discussion, there's a thread devoted to the acquisition of aaron brooks.
  20. Limited upside, but younger than Paolo Espino. For now he fills out the AAA rotation, possibly with a chance as a swing/long man in the future. Several other Brewer pitchers have added a few ticks to their fastballs, and if Brooks can do that too, who knows? There may be something there. agree with dacbrewers. brooks is out of options next year, and having him available for a postseason run for colorado springs allows the brewers to recall any of junior guerra, taylor jungmann or brandon woodruff right away on 1 september to start or be available as a long man. brooks isn't going to be the swing/long man in the remaining future of the 2017 major league brewers. he's just a guy to replace aaa depth for the next few weeks.
  21. thank you . . . saw it moved, but now it's back in the minor league forum. it's a move affecting the major league 40-man roster (and not speculation on a move like purchasing the contract of corbin burnes). i find this puzzling.
  22. september call-ups what you want?
  23. as mentioned on this thread, waiver claims cost $50,000--not nothing. also, any team wanting to claim espino would not have to place him on their 25-man roster. espino, having already burned his first option and having been on optional assignment when dfa'd, could simply be optioned by the claiming team, and then recalled when rosters expand in september.
  24. promising progress for suter after today's bullpen session.
  25. curious as to why this thread was moved to the minor league forum. it's about a player signed to a major league contract and added to the 40-man roster.
