  1. There ya go, this seems like an option. Maybe catch lightning in the bottle with dejesus. And you can sell it to Sogard as a way to go down and get right again, maybe he'll start clicking like he was before when they brought him up. Then maybe can get some ok play out of him in September or whenever he gets back up. this would still require bumping another player from the 40-man to make room for de jesus, jr.
  2. sogard has one minor league option remaining, but he has more than five years of mlb service time (he did entering 2017 spring training). if the brewers tried to option sogard, he'd have the right to refuse the assignment (voiding the rest of his contract) and select free agency. given how close it is to september roster expansion, sogard would be foolish to refuse the optional assignment.
  3. waiver claims cost the acquiring club $50,000. In the scale of major league economics, and netting out players lost on waivers, essentially free. brad mills and i both disagree with your interpretation.
  4. waiver claims cost the acquiring club $50,000.
  5. considering that the brewers have spent a chunk of the season without a true backup center fielder, the club has certainly operated on thin ice with a short bench. hernan perez can certainly be the backup center fielder, but then you lose a backup infielder. this is compounded with travis shaw's absence tonight. as pointed out in the start of this thread, the club isn't deep at all with infielders on the 40-man, and two of the 25-man infielders are struggling mightily (jonathan villar and eric sogard). will be ideal to see yadiel rivera (out of options in 2018) outrighted this month and mauricio dubon (and possibly ivan de jesus, jr.) called up to give the club more depth on the infield.
  6. minor league rehab assignment looming for stephen vogt . . .
  7. kinsler has cleared revocable trade waivers, but the brewers are reportedly on his no-trade list.
  8. suter, having already burned his first option, could be a tough luck candidate to be sent down, but then recalled in september.
  9. advantage to craig counsell splitting the catching duties more evenly to start the season: manny pina is more rested and better able to handle the grind of starting four of the last five games since jett bandy hit the disabled list.
  10. Brewers have already used Guerra option....they can move him up or down as many times as they want the rest of the year without changing anything...... if a player spends less than 20 days optioned, his option isn't burned. with september roster expansion looming, this affects not only junior guerra, but also michael blazek, keon broxton, wei-chung wang, tyler webb and brandon woodruff, as all have spent less than 20 days optioned thus far. blazek and guerra could both burn their final option this year, as could keon broxton.
  11. fittingly, it was raining here in minneapolis when they landed.
  12. the rotation is insane right now. there's still time to decide where to place chase anderson (and possibly junior guerra if the club doesn't want to burn his final option), but at this point, who deserves to be bumped from the starting rotation?
  13. another bullpen today. if no setbacks, anderson's rehab assignment should start tuesday.
  14. not a great start for junior guerra last night, but he did earn the win. 85 pitches, only 39 for strikes. 5.0 innings, one earned run, but four walks to two strikeouts.
  15. vogt is expected to be back ahead of bandy.
  16. woodruff certainly showed great poise tonight. he drilled down when he had to, and made great pitches when nothing but great was needed. have to wonder if not having to hit helped him focus tonight in his debut.
  17. brewers.com update from 30 july projects possibly late august. if that's the case, there won't be many minor league games left for him to appear in on rehab. apparently, vogt is targeting mid-august for his return.
  18. good news for chase anderson. a rehab assignment is next.
  19. manny pina is the starting catcher tonight.
  20. possibly, but working against the brewers is that the only current relievers that can be optioned are jacob barnes, josh hader and corey knebel. however, the brewers could be looking to add a player to their full 40-man roster by 31 august for postseason eligibility, and dfa-ing a reliever out of options like oliver drake or carlos torres would open up both a 25-man and 40-man roster spot. an extra position player could be recalled, and any player in the minor league system could be added to the 40-man roster but immediately optioned (but then recalled in early september and not have his option burned). in the interest of preserving depth, what would work out more conveniently for the brewers is for a reliever to go down with a very minor injury the week of 13 august that would only require 10 days on the disabled list. at that point, the brewers could afford to recall a position player and be covered with a seven-man bullpen and two off days that week. personally, i'd be okay with optioning barnes for 10 days just to use him sparingly over that time and refresh him for september . . . especially if jeremy jeffress and anthony swarzak are dealing.
  21. no surprise with andrew susac recalled today. seeing that he's caught brandon woodruff with colorado springs, one has to wonder if he'll be the starter tonight.
  22. lewis brinson optioned today. he will have to stay optioned for at least 10 days (barring an injury to another player). brett phillips will be eligible for recall in a couple of days.
  23. say what you will about the 3-3 homestand, but we got a taste of a playoff-caliber rotation in five of these six games against two really good teams. that has to give fans hope down the stretch.
  24. brewers.com update from 30 july projects possibly late august. if that's the case, there won't be many minor league games left for him to appear in on rehab.
  25. when was the last time the brewers had two catchers on the disabled list, if ever?
