  1. depending on how paolo espino is handled, the brewers could have a 9-man bullpen right now with the recall of jorge lopez to take chase anderson's spot on the roster. anderson's turn in the rotation doesn't come until monday, so it should be expected for lopez to stay with the team through at least sunday.
  2. corey knebel has just tied hall of famer bruce sutter's single season record of 39 consecutive games in relief with at least one strikeout per game.
  3. jungmann is on three days rest right now, having thrown 95 pitches on sunday, so he could pitch an abbreviated start tomorrow, and the brewers could recall a position player until jungmann is needed to start.
  4. villar benched for the second straight game since returning from the disabled list.
  5. chris carter, designated for assignment by the yankees last week, has accepted his outright assignment to class aaa scranton/wilkes-barre.
  6. it's a really nice balance of speed and power. just imagine what the brewers could accomplish offensively if they went back to a 12-man pitching staff.
  7. not even close. ramon flores made the club out of spring training and was designated for assignment 19 august 2016.
  8. nick franklin designated for assignment to make room for the return on jonathan villar from the 10-day disabled list. the brewers have 7 days to trade, release or try to outright franklin to the minor leagues. franklin has never been outrighted before, so if he goes unclaimed, he cannot refuse the minor league assignment. the roster is at 39.
  9. i answered my own question on this thread.
  10. i think it was 2011. to start the 2011 season, the brewers had martin maldonado optioned, jonathan lucroy on the 15-day disabled list, and opened the season with wil nieves and george kottaras on the 25-man roster. on 21 april 2011, kottaras was outrighted to the minor leagues, bringing it back to three catchers on the 40-man. but on 17 may 2011, mike rivera had his contract purchased by the brewers, to make it four catchers again on the 40-man, before being outrighted 10 days later (if i recall correctly, he was brought up for one day, and then was designated for assignment right after the game, and later outrighted). nieves was outrighted in june, and the brewers brought kottaras back again . . . but at that point, they were down to three catchers on the 40-man.
  11. anyone recall the last time in-season the brewers carried four catchers on the 40-man roster?
  12. stephen vogt claimed off waivers yesterday from oakland. vogt is out of options, but he has never been outrighted off the 40-man roster to the minor leagues. to make room on the 25-man roster, jett bandy was optioned to colorado springs. if bandy spends more than 20 days optioned, he will enter 2018 spring training with no minor league options remaining. the brewers could've preserved one of those days by waiting to option bandy until tuesday (lewis brinson was optioned and opened up a spot on the 25-man room for vogt), so this move is slightly puzzling. the 40-man roster is full. i'm curious when was the last time the brewers carried four catchers on the 40-man roster during the regular season. anyone know?
  13. knebel has two records in his sights: --if he gets strikeouts in his next two relief appearances, he sets the single-season record. --if he somehow achieves it over the next 12 appearances, he bests arolids chapman (who needed two seasons to get to 49).
  14. for a single season, bruce sutter, for the 1977 chicago cubs, with 39. knebel can do it . . . but he may have a tough opponent coming up . . . the atlanta braves has the fewest strikeouts in the national league.
  15. villar is starting at second base tonight for the timber rattlers.
  16. still leaves the club with an eight-man bullpen. the brewers have 16 games over the next 18 days before the four-day all-star break, and those final three games before the break are in an american league park allowing for a dh.
  17. with ryan braun and jonathan villar both expected to return next week, one has to think that if wanting to stick with an eight-man bullpen, that the brewers will option lewis brinson and designate nick franklin for assignment. eric sogard has definitely proven he deserves to start at second base for the time being, so it will be interesting to see what defensive position(s) villar plays during his minor league rehab assignment.
  18. it took nine pitches to josh harrison, but knebel tied arolids chapman last night for most consecutive appearances (37) to start a season exclusively in relief with at least one strikeout per game.
  19. right calf strain for wily peralta. brent suter recalled. after the 10 days are up, the brewers can opt to assign peralta to the minor leagues for up to 30 days of rehab before being forced to keep him on the dl, activate him and return him to the 25-man, or activate him and designate him for assignment. convenient way for peralta to potentially get some work in the minors and straighten things out.
  20. very classy of the brewers to hold off announcing the corresponding roster move to give their newly signed first round draft pick his time with the media . . . especially if it's something as serious as a dfa.
  21. oakland's pdc with the nashville sounds expires after the 2018 season. it would be awesome if oakland signed a pdc with fresno (less than a three hour drive from oakland without heavy traffic), and the brewers went back to nashville. while fresno's stadium isn't as new as nashville's, it was built in this century, and oakland would gain the proximity advantage. the sounds' ownership wanted oakland because they wanted a winning team. the 2015 sounds had a .458 winning percentage; in 2016, .585; and currently, .514.
  22. currently, only two daily departures out of fresno-yosemite international airport to a city in the central time zone (and it's not chicago). unless the brewers are on a road trip out west, any recalled player on a homestand is going very likely going to have at least one connecting flight to get to either milwaukee or any other nl east or nl central city. that central time zone city is dallas (dfw) . . . which would bode well for houston or texas . . . but i'm sure they're going to want san antonio and round rock over fresno.
  23. no surprise here given a large salary that few teams would want to take on, the brewers have released neftali feliz.
