  1. one can be optioned, the other cannot.
  2. brett phillips recalled, presumably only until junior guerra's turn in the rotation comes. still gives the club an eight-man bullpen and a five-man position player unit (which has been rare this season).
  3. tyler webb fills out the 40-man roster. he's spent only one day optioned to the minor leagues, so he has yet to burn any of his three options.
  4. ugly rehab outing for peralta last night. 5 earned runs in 0.1 inning. he has at least one more sky sox appearance planned.
  5. he has no minor league options remaining. last year, the brewers optioned davies over the all-star break to give andy wilkins a shot. i'm still thinking this happens again (but not the andy wilkins part).
  6. he'd have to be in the stands by game time, right? if a player's not on the 25-man roster or major league disabled list, he can't be in uniform nor can he be in the dugout.
  7. eric sogard to the disabled list and yadiel rivera recalled. this still leaves the brewers with a 13-man pitching staff with three of the next four games in an american league park.
  8. michael reed has been outrighted to the minor leagues. this is the first time he has been outrighted off the 40-man roster. the roster is at 39.
  9. brinson and jett bandy--both hitting very well since being optioned--would both be eligible to be recalled for the weekend series. but, as mentioned before, brinson makes more sense because he would allow for braun to dh and for perez to sub on the infield with an ailing sogard.
  10. three strikeouts last night to extend the record streak to 41.
  11. peralta starts his rehab tonight in colorado springs. while the brewers can technically wait 30 days to activate him, they plan on only a couple of outings before determining his roster status. pretty safe to assume that once mlb games resume after the all-star break, we'll all know peralta's future with the brewers.
  12. scahill is out of minor league options and would have to be exposed to waivers. if he cleared waivers, he could refuse the minor league assignment. davies had not burned his 2016 option when he was sent down over the all-star break, but by the time he was recalled on 17 july, he had spent more than 20 total days optioned, and thus, burned his option. assuming that the brewers kept davies optioned for less than 20 days in 2017, he would not burn an option in 2017. they would have to keep him optioned for a minimum of 10 days before recalling him, which would mean him not appearing in the phillies weekend series after the break (assuming he's optioned immediately after his start tomorrow against the cubs).
  13. eric sogard is hurting, and the brewers are still carrying an eight-man bullpen. lewis brinson has been swinging a hot bat since being optioned, and he can be recalled for the series at yankee stadium, where the dh will be used, and hernan perez can be used more in the infield. i'm hoping that the brewers recall brinson friday and start him in all three games (perhaps one in center and two in left). zach davies could be optioned after his start on thursday and be recalled to start monday 17 july in pittsburgh. or, the brewers could option michael blazek or josh hader. i know that davies was upset that he was optioned last year during the all-star break, but it was done to bring in an extra bat. (interestingly, davies was recalled on 17 july of last year.)
  14. brent suter has been assured one more start before the all-star break. here's the bullpen now, with number of minor league options remaining. jacob barnes (2) michael blazek (1, has not spent more than 20 days in the minor leagues while on the 40-man roster, so his sole remaining option has not been burned) oliver drake (0) josh hader (2, already burned his 2017 option) jared hughes (0) corey knebel (1) rob scahill (0) carlos torres (0) already optioned, but can be recalled at any point during the season (requires a 10-day minimum stay in the minors unless replacing an injured player): paolo espino (2, already burned his 2017 option) taylor jungmann (1, already burned his 2017 option; had been stretched out as a starter) jorge lopez (1, already burned his 2017 option) all other optioned pitchers on the 40-man are either starters or recovering from an injury.
  15. of interest: since the 2016-2017 offseason, the brewers have outrighted three players to the minor leagues, only to bring them back for at least one stint on the 25-man roster. david goforth was outrighted in december 2016, brought up in april, and then outrighted again. rob scahill was outrighted in february, brought up in may, outrighted again in june, and brought up at the end of june. michael blazek was outrighted in april and brought up in july. i'm trying to remember the last season when so many outrighted players were given a second (or third) chance. any stabs at it?
  16. after spending seven days optioned to the minor leagues in 2017, the brewers outrighted michael blazek. today, the club selected his contract and added him to the 25-man roster. blazek can still be optioned this year, and if he spends less than 13 days optioned for the remainder of the 2017 season, he will enter 2018 with one minor league option remaining. the 40-man roster is full.
  17. pulled after 37 pitches over three innings. allowed two hits, struck out five and no runs or walks.
  18. 40! knebel bests the record set by a pitcher in the hall of fame.
  19. so much for that. lopez optioned, rob scahill had his contract selected again.
  20. tyler cravy outrighted to the minor leagues. he cannot refuse the minor league assignment. rob scahill had his contract selected for the second time this year, and jorge lopez was optioned. the roster remains at 39.
  21. will auto-renew at normal rate if you don't cancel by 28 february 2018.
  22. tyler cravy is another player that will enter 2018 with no options remaining. it's very conceivable that the brewers will mix in a traveling carousel of players who have already burned an option in 2017: jorge lopez, taylor jungmann, paolo espino, tyler cravy and an activated and rehabbed brandon woodruff (no option burned yet, see below). an optioned player has to stay down for 10 days, but given the presumed health of all of the aforementioned optionable guys (plus josh hader and brent suter), it'd be easy to manage this revolving door for the next month or two. it should be noted that woodruff has all three minor league options intact, and that he can have a minor league rehab assignment of up to 30 days before being activated on the disabled list. thus, it's conceivable that he wouldn't be activated until august, could make a start, be optioned for 10 days, be recalled to make another start, be optioned for 10 days and then recalled for good into september when rosters can expand. if woodruff is optioned for less than 20 days in 2017, he doesn't burn this year's option.
  23. i'm thinking that taylor jungmann gets the start monday. he last pitched sunday, so we'll see if he's held back or on a restricted pitch count tomorrow in omaha. jungmann will enter 2018 with no options remaining, so this is a good time for the brewers to see what they've got in him.
