  1. They can call someone up, it's no different than Braun's suspension last year. not correct. the brewers will be playing with a 24-man roster while maldonado serves his suspension. braun was suspended for off-field conduct. maldonado has been suspended for on-field conduct. if the brewers want a catcher from triple-a, they'd have to first add him to the 40-man roster (currently full), and then remove somebody else from the 25-man roster.
  2. how convincingly can rickie weeks fake a concussion? put him on the 7-day disabled list, move tom gorzelanny to the 60-day disabled list, and the brewers purchase the contract of a catcher and keep him on the roster until weeks is activated.
  3. punching an opposing player was a stupid move. every player knows that the current roster lacks flexibility (especially if segura and braun are less than 100%, plus the flu bug making its way through the clubhouse), and now the team is handcuffed even more. if this had to happen, i'm glad it happened early in the season. i hope it's a deterrent to future antics by other players.
  4. if green isn't on the 40-man roster by 15 june, he can declare free agency.
  5. if he's put back into the brewers' minor league system in 2015, he's obviously not on the 25-man roster. if they want to keep him on the 40-man roster in 2015, but in the minor leagues, they'd have to option him (burning his first option). if they want to keep him in the organization at the conclusion of the 2014 season, but remove him from the 40-man roster, wang could be claimed by any other team with a 40-man spot open, and would enter 2015 spring training with three minor league options remaining. if no other team claims him, he remains brewers' property, but could be subject to the rule 5 draft again. one would think that if a team truly wanted wang in 2015, they'd claim him as a waiver claim (can be optioned) and not a rule 5 pick (cannot be optioned).
  6. the brewers recalled alfredo figaro and optioned rob wooten. the pitching staff needed a fresh arm, and it's beneficial in that figaro can go more than one inning. unless replacing an injured player, wooten must remain in the minor leagues for a minimum of ten days.
  7. any team claiming figaro would not have to keep him on their 25-man roster to acquire him; they'd just have to keep him on their 40-man and optioned to the minor leagues. good catching depth is always hard to come by, but i'm usually frustrated when a team has infield, outfield and pitching depth on the 40-man, but no catching depth. the brewers rarely carry more than two catchers on the 40-man.
  8. velez is not on the 40-man roster and the 40-man is full. not worth removing someone else on the roster for three days' worth of a player. overbay can return to play sunday.
  9. herrera recalled. lyle overbay out on paternity leave. gives the brewers outfield insurance in case braun is still ailing with his thumb.
  10. the brewers should've recalled wang instead.
  11. the brewers could start wang in a game (perhaps against an interleague foe where a loss doesn't mean a win for a wild card competitor) and pull him after one inning. the reliever would be the normal starting pitcher (who could then be expected to pitch into the 7th or 8th inning).
  12. it's frustrating how the brewers haven't given wang an audition yet. although it may be at least three weeks away, tom gorzelanny is expected to be activated from the disabled list. the brewers need to figure out what they have in wang well before gorzelanny returns.
  13. the sounds needed to pare down by three players. it looks like they're stephen parker, lucas may and kyle heckathorn. not certain what their statuses are, just that they don't appear to be on the sounds' opening night 25-man roster.
  14. k-rod is being paid closer money to close games. if he's successful at it, he becomes a sought-after reliever before the 31 july trading deadline. i'm not suggesting that the brewers trade him yet again . . . just suggesting that they're putting themselves up for a better return if they audition k-rod as a closer now. the brewers still have control of henderson for many years to come (plus he has three minor league options remaining should he falter).
  15. in the late hours of 31 march 1970, bud selig learned from a reporter that he had succeeded in purchasing the seattle pilots. most wisconsinites heard the news the next morning. thanks, bud, for bringing major league baseball back to milwaukee.
  16. if only some of that money could be reinvested in improving the quality of life for detroit residents and visitors . . .
  17. that would keep a young player with option(s) remaining from being sent down when tom gorzelanny returns to the team.
  18. nobody could have predicted corey hart, mat gamel and taylor green all missing the entire 2013 season with injuries. all of those guys were either established big leaguers or promising prospects at that time. plan for any more depth than that at a single position, and you've created a log jam (plus holes at other positions).
  19. wooten's time will come. it should be noted that this is wooten's first time being optioned to the minor leagues. granted, the same thing could happen to him again in 2015 and 2016 (staying on the roster for the majority of spring training but then being optioned).
  20. with jean segura sitting out his sixth straight game, i question why the brewers optioned herrera today, instead of waiting until the sunday deadline to set a roster. now, the earliest herrera can be recalled (without placing segura on the 15-day disabled list, possibly backdated as far as 19 march) is friday 4 april. one can only assume that the brewers are confident that segura will rebound in time.
  21. viewtopic.php?p=872473#p872473
  22. i still don't know why the brewers open the first games of the season with five starting pitchers on their roster--especially if there's a #4 or #5 guy with a minor league option remaining. it's a waste of roster space.
  23. elian herrera has been optioned to the minor leagues. he can be recalled and sent back down all season, but would enter 2015 spring training with no minor league options remaining.
  24. rob wooten has been optioned to the minor leagues. he can be recalled and sent down all season, and would enter 2015 spring training with two minor league options remaining. also, zach duke has been informed that he'll be added to the 40-man roster, but it's not official yet. in adding duke, overbay and reynolds, the 40-man roster would be full.
  25. with juan francisco placed on release waivers, the 40-man is at 37. mark reynolds and lyle overbay have been told that they'll be added to the 40-man roster, but it's not official yet.
