  1. does this act like an express bus? how many stops between schaumburg and wrigley field? the red/purple line is easy to use, but there are so many stops between howard and addison!
  2. ryan braun activated from the 15-day disabled list; aramis ramirez placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to 11 may. elian herrera recalled from triple-a; caleb gindl optioned. gindl must remain at triple-a for a minimum of ten days unless replacing an injured player.
  3. 17 runs surrendered last night, and 4-6 in their last ten games. the brewers are 4-6 in their last ten as well, so it's good that when they're scuffling, so are the brewers.
  4. hire gorman thomas as hitting coach.
  5. if aramis ramirez hits the disabled list, the brewers may have to make a move that affects the 40-man roster. the only player with experience at third currently on the 40-man optioned to the minors is elian herrera, who has started 14 games at third in his mlb career. hunter morris could be recalled, moving mark reynolds to third, but then you're stuck with another player who can only play one position (and redundancy with morris and lyle overbay both batting left). taylor green is not on the 40-man, has major league experience, and can play third and first (plus second, not that the brewers need that). it should also be noted that green can elect free agency if not on the 40-man by 15 june. gorzelanny still remains a candidate to be transferred to the 60-day disabled list, but he'd be activated pretty soon after the backdated 60 days are up as he is close to being ready, forcing his return to the 40-man roster. barring the release of another player such as rickie weeks, if the brewers don't recall herrera, they seem on the path to recalling hellweg and placing him on the 60-day disabled list to make room for another player.
  6. it's too bad that the suspension won't be served during games against an american league team (like the yankees). playing a man short, a brewers loss to an american league team would only be a half game boost for a national league rival gunning for the nl central division title or nl wild card.
  7. brewers released a statement. appeal will be heard friday 9 may. if he still has to serve suspension, one would assume that he'd miss games(s) from the miller park series vs. the yankees. had it been monday 5 may, he'd likely miss game(s) against the diamondbacks.
  8. jim henderson to the 15-day dl with right shoulder inflammation. caleb gindl up. the brewers are back to a 12-man pitching staff.
  9. i remember being at county stadium in the extra-inning game that had ricky bones (pitcher) playing right field. it was game two of a doubleheader (and worth sharing in another thread devoted to awesome brewers memories). p.s. the brewers won both games.
  10. elian herrera optioned. unless replacing an injured position player, he must remain in the minor leagues for at least 10 days. rob wooten returns to help an overworked bullpen. one would expect the pitching staff to go back to 12 when logan schafer is activated in a couple days.
  11. i'm thinking gorzelanny hits the 60-day dl ahead of hellweg. gorzelanny is already earning major league pay and service time, so it doesn't make sense to do so with hellweg unless absolutely necessary. i think that the brewers would purchase the contract of a position player instead of another pitcher, and it'd be a player they would be ok outrighting back to the minor leagues if they needed room for gorzelanny when he's activated. taylor green and eugenio velez would be candidates to have their contract purchased--if only for each player's versatility. it should be noted that green can declare free agency if he's not on the 40-man by 15 june.
  12. if the brewers overtax their bullpen again today, it's quite possible that the brewers may add another arm (at least until logan schafer returns). wang seems to be safe. herrera seems to be safe (if only because of his versatility in covering for so many banged up players at the moment). henderson could be optioned, but he's already proven that he's worked his stuff out. if the brewers are thinking about adding another arm, a position player has to go--and all signs are pointing to weeks.
  13. Hellweg can be placed on the 60 day DL at any time, he is having surgery today I think it said on the minors message board. that is true about hellweg, but then he'd be accruing major league service time and major league salary. gorzelanny is already accruing major league service time and salary, and if a move is going to be made just to accommodate a utility player like velez, it shouldn't come at such a cost. my thinking is that velez would be a short-term fix for the brewers as they battle through injuries, and he'd be outrighted back to the minor leagues if they needed room when gorzelanny returned to the 25-man roster. of course, by that point (june?), the brewers could be prepared to jettison rickie weeks.
  14. wild card game means the pitcher hits (ditto on final games of nlds and nlcs). game 7 of the world series means it could be the dh hitting. should we taking that into consideration as well?
  15. as much as i hate to bump a thread about a minor league player on a minor league contract in the major league forum, velez has been playing well with nashville, and his versatility could be what the brewers need if segura, ramirez or braun go on the disabled list (although it may make more sense to recall gindl for braun). a 40-man spot could be opened up for velez by transferring tom gorzelanny to the 60-day disabled list.
  16. yes, under these conditions.
  17. hellweg is lost for the season. the way the brewers are handcuffed with their current roster, i hope they recall him and put him on the 60-day disabled list.
  18. had a twitter conversation with adam mccalvy earlier today about segura and the 7-day disabled list. i wish segura would claim concussion symptoms to help out the team--especially with braun unavailable and caleb gindl healthy at the moment.
  19. remember how the brewers petitioned for another option year for mark rogers because he missed so much time due to injury? i wonder if the brewers can or will do the same with johnny hellweg. it was expected that come spring training 2015, he'd be out of options.
  20. part of me hopes that the brewers lose their next four games, all by one run and some more in extra frames. if maldonado truly wanted to stand up for his teammate, he'd care about putting the best 25 available players on the roster every day, and stand up for winning at (and behind) the plate.
  21. if johnny hellweg is indeed out for the season, the brewers can recall him but then place him on the 60-day disabled list. it would mean that hellweg would accrue major league service time and a major league salary, but it would open up a spot on the 40-man roster.
  22. let's hope johnny hellweg isn't a candidate for tommy john surgery.
  23. if neither brewer appeals, the brewers are stuck with a 23-man roster for the next three games, right? makes things difficult if you're relying on herrera to cover center and be your emergency catcher. makes it even more difficult if khris davis is still out with the flu. gomez has to appeal.
  24. the brewers are already essentially playing with an 11-man pitching staff in how they're using wang. you're proposing that on the heels of a 14-inning game, plus an overworked francisco rodriguez (four straight games), that the brewers essentially go with a 10-man pitching staff?
