  1. it's reported here that mills is reporting to triple-a sacramento. it's possible that oakland wants to wait until he's fully rested before purchasing his contract.
  2. i find it funny how many refer to it as "bush stadium". what a bunch of morans.
  3. it's not stated whether or not the brewers would receive any compensation if another team placed him on their 25-man roster.
  4. still waiting for updates on both players' statuses with the organization. I assume the option to leave is open-ended?... If no team comes calling now, they just keep playing status quo. If someone calls next week then they may be gone then. Right? i'm not certain how teams can negotiate with green's and mills' agent(s) at the moment. you're correct that they're both under contract at the moment, but either player could opt out of the organization at any time now and become a free agent. teams can't negotiate with other organizations' players until they hit free agency, so i would imagine that unless they opt to test free agency, the only other way either will get to play for another organization is for another to team to trade for him.
  5. still waiting for updates on both players' statuses with the organization.
  6. carlos gomez back in third, but only by 1658 votes.
  7. irving falu and logan schafer optioned last night. assuming both spend at least twenty days in the minors, falu will enter 2015 with no options remaining and schafer with one option remaining.
  8. something i learned years after i'd finished school . . . words of more than one syllable with double consonants at the syllable break have the syllable break between the two consonants. i'm not certain if there are any exceptions to this rule. thus, with your spelling of his four-syllable name, you should hear the 'l' sound at the end of the second syllable, and the 'l' sound at the beginning of the third syllable. but you don't hear both 'l' sounds when pronouncing his name correctly. you hear the 'n' sound at the end of the third syllable, and the 'n' sound at the beginning of the fourth syllable--making it double-n and thus, 'gorzelanny'. this tip has really helped me spell words and names correctly.
  9. look at it this way: imagine that ariel pena, michael blazek, jimmy nelson and hiram burgos (all currently optioned to the minor leagues) all suffered season-ending injuries while in the minor leagues (joining hellweg). that'd be five pitchers with experience starting lost for the season. and let's imagine that the brewers have to place wily peralta on the 15-day disabled list and need to recall another starter to make two to four starts while he's out. the 40-man roster is full, and it includes five pitchers out for the season. who can they turn to? (and don't answer with alfredo figaro.)
  10. it's presumed that you're referring to hellweg. it should be noted that hellweg is a player on the 40-man roster optioned to the minor leagues. he is not currently earning major league service time, and is earning less than he would on the major league roster via the split portion of his contract. he was injured while optioned. he is currently on the minor league 7-day disabled list--not on the major league 15-day disabled list. because he remains on the minor league 7-day disabled list, and because he's missed more than seven days with his injury, the brewers could recall hellweg, pay him the amount that his contract calls for when earning major league service time, and immediately place him on the 60-day disabled list. hellweg would be earning major league service time along with his major league pay while on the 60-day disabled list, and would have to be added back to the 40-man roster at the conclusion of the season. thus, the brewers pay hellweg more, and his service time clock starts ticking again. whether these are huge concerns or not, only brewers management knows.
  11. jim henderson is eying a return on 1 july; the brewers are thinking later than that. either way, a move to the 60-day disabled list would allow him to be activated as soon as 2 july, and would clear a 40-man roster spot until his return.
  12. none of those are on the 40-man (which is full at the moment). i was referring to lack of healthy, quality pitching depth on the 40-man beyond fiers and nelson.
  13. in order for a player to be up in september, he has to be on the 40-man roster. mills is not. thus, his presence on the team in september is far from a certain outcome. it is unclear if mills' opt-out clause requires him to be on the 25-man or 40-man by 15 june. he's on neither, so the 40-man would be the first step. green's clause just calls for him to be on the 40-man by 15 june.
  14. if minor leaguers taylor green and brad mills aren't added to the brewers' 40-man roster by sunday 15 june, they can opt out of their contracts and declare free agency.
  15. i'd feel better about cutting estrada with a healthy hiram burgos, johnny hellweg, tom gorzelanny and jim henderson, and an effective wei-chung wang, ariel pena, michael blazek and alfredo figaro. the brewers' pitching depth that was talked about in spring training is nearly non-existent now.
  16. pretty cool that carlos gomez climbed all the way up to third place.
  17. Ha! My first thought as well but figured the reference was too obscure for most. Because I'm a nerd, I did some research and while they are probably related in some capacity (both are Hawaiian with Portuguese descent) Kodi is not Glenn's son. a billboard #1 single does not make one obscure.
  18. irving falu remains with his minor league option intact. elian herrera optioned to nashville for the pending return of aramis ramirez from the disabled list.
  19. i'd care . . . especially if more than one team from the nl central advances. it means more revenue for those teams . . . revenue that they can spend in the winter to make themselves even better. is it not the case that the team with the best record in the league plays the wild card winner in the division series--unless they're in the same division? thus, each team in the nl central could potentially make it to the league championship series to face each other . . . meaning more revenue for each of them.
  20. jeff bianchi was outrighted to the minor leagues last week. irving falu had his contract purchased, making the 40-man full again. falu can be optioned to the minor leagues this year, but given it's his sole remaining option, one would think that the brewers would consider optioning elian herrera instead as he's already been optioned in his final option year. if falu remains on the 2014 brewers roster (or major league disabled list), he would enter 2015 spring training with an option remaining and would compete with hererra (no options in 2015) for a utility role. this, of course, is assuming both players are on the 40-man roster come 2015 spring training.
  21. taylor green would have two minor league options remaining if his contract was purchased by the milwaukee brewers.
  22. oh my. when's the last time two different position players were used by the brewers to pitch?
  23. what other teams might be interested in signing morales post-draft?
  24. randy wolf is back in the big leagues (miami marlins).
