  1. 22 march is the deadline for overbay to be added to the mlb roster (presumably, 40-man). if not placed on the roster, he can declare free agency 48 hours later.
  2. nris for outfielders kentrail davis, mitch haniger and kevin mattison. none would expected to get a ton of playing time, but with the brewers, one never knows. sean halton was an nri last year and he got a lengthy audition, being one of the last players cut from camp. with overbay and reynolds in the mix, halton is going to have few opportunities to shine in camp.
  3. if overbay makes the roster, it's quite possibly at the expense of sean halton being optioned. really makes it insulting to halton if overbay has to ask him for his number, huh?
  4. that depends on how well ryan braun adjusts to playing in right. if he makes a smooth transition, expect more playing time for halton.
  5. entering 2013, figaro had one minor league option remaining. his contract was purchased at the end of spring training and he made the opening day roster. after a stint on the disabled list and a rehab assignment, the brewers optioned him to nashville on 16 august. he was recalled 30 august. was his stay in the minor leagues long enough to burn through his sole remaining option, or does he enter 2014 with one option remaining?
  6. it should be noted that velez is not on the 40-man roster.
  7. in recent days, the competition for taylor green has intensified. it should be noted that green can elect free agency if he's not on the brewers' 40-man roster by 15 june 2014. green also can terminate his contract with the brewers should there be an opportunity to play for an asian team (the brewers would be compensated). one can assume that mark reynolds and lyle overbay both have opt-out clauses as well (and likely earlier than 15 june 2014), but nothing's been confirmed yet to my knowledge.
  8. does this thread really deserve to be in the major league forum?
  9. i'd factor in that when he signed, he was given a major league contract immediately and thus, took up a 40-man roster spot. whether or not weeks was blocking a waiver claim or the immediate signing of a player non-tendered in the early part of his professional career, we'll never know. i can't remember the last brewer before weeks drafted and when signed that summer, given a major league contract.
  10. the brewers released suppan 7 june 2010, not early may.
  11. although currently not on the 40-man roster, infielder taylor green has an out clause in his contract if he isn't added to the 40-man roster by 15 june 2014. obviously, that's a long time ahead, but worth noting as we keep track of the 40-man this offseason.
  12. per a tweet from adam mccalvy today, i learned that his restricted status was due to not being able to verify his age and identity. i only recall knowing that he was on the restricted list due to visa issues. it's now pretty clear that he has visa issues because he's actually a player to be named later.
  13. with today's rule 5 claim of lhp wei-chung wang from the pirates' system, the roster is full at 40. wang will have to remain on the 25-man roster (if healthy) the entire season or be offered back to the pirates.
  14. the brewers have made signing corey hart a priority, per hart's agent.
  15. as expected, la russa, cox and torre are elected.
  16. do we get the "pursuit of happyness" will smith or the "after earth" will smith?
  17. per a tweet from adam mccalvy today, de los santos is still on the restricted list.
  18. say hello to the brewers' new rightfielder.
  19. as far as i can tell, will smith had his contract purchased by the royals on 22 may 2012. he was optioned in june of that year, and was optioned in spring training 2013. thus, he should have one minor league option remaining.
  20. that article stated that metal detectors would be recommended, but did not state that they would be required.
  21. the deadline to protect players from the rule 5 draft has passed. the removal of badenhop from the roster does allow the brewers to claim a player in the rule 5 draft, make a waiver claim or sign a free agent.
  22. with today's trade of burke badenhop, the roster is at 39.
  23. wasn't braun tested more than other players in 2012 because of the results of his 2011 testing? look at the numbers he put in 2012--presumably as a "clean" player. i have confidence that if healthy, braun is going to be an impact player for the club.
  24. i think teams are better off with fewer years and higher average annual value. if a player stinks, and there's fan backlash, the fans will rejoice (and start to forget) when the contract's been shed.
  25. mark attanasio, doug melvin, ron roenicke and ryan braun had lunch last weekend. they talked about braun moving to right field, and apparently, he's open to the idea.
