  1. four contracts purchased today. the roster is now full at 40.
  2. the roster is currently at 36 with the removal of free agents from the roster, the return of ryan braun and rickie weeks and the claim of elian herrera. unsure about miguel de los santos, but apparently, he still remains in roster limbo and isn't part of the 40-man.
  3. correct. they would have had to recall him (not to report) and then place him on the 60-day.
  4. yes . . . except fiers was never transferred to the 60-day disabled list (even though he could have been). weeks and hart have to be activated, but hart is expected to declare free agency. braun and de los santos will have to be removed from the restricted list and placed back on the 40-man.
  5. for now, it appears that michael olmsted gets to keep his spot on the 40-man roster . . .
  6. santo manzanillo, jesus sanchez and josh ravin all outrighted today. the current roster is at 35.
  7. prince could've been claimed and optioned in 2014. because he wasn't, i can't see a team claiming him via rule 5.
  8. the cost of outrighting josh prince. i'm not saying that prince deserved to hold on to his 40-man spot, but it did take away depth as prince had been groomed as a super-utility player.
  9. taylor green has been outrighted to the minor leagues, but he does have the right to declare minor league free agency after the world series.
  10. mat gamel claimed by the cubs. taylor green waived. josh prince and nick bucci outrighted. the 40-man roster stands at 38.
  11. i'm reading reports that green can elect free agency if not claimed. is it due to minor league service time? he's never been outrighted off the 40-man before . . . isn't he forced to accept the minor league assignment?
  12. how do you think sean is feeling after learning that the brewers cut two first basemen from the club?
  13. if gamel clears waivers, he can become a free agent. if green clears waivers, he remains property of the brewers as this is the first time he's been outrighted and he has minor league options remaining.
  14. or compound the problem if they need a shortstop while gomez is serving his one-game suspension. i'm sure the brewers will breathe a lot easier if segura returns to play in new york, but at the same rate, i'm sure they don't want to risk rushing him back.
  15. i did forget that sean halton could fill in at third. but then that leaves jonathan lucroy as the only backup at first.
  16. i know only four games remain in the season, but the brewers look to be quite thin in the infield with available bench players. aramis ramirez is likely done for the year. jean segura has yet to return. assuming segura can't return to action, jeff bianchi and yuniesky betancourt can cover short and third, but then that leaves no backups at second, short and third. did josh prince's phone ring last night?
  17. the claim of josh ravin makes it harder for a fringe player to be added to the 40-man . . . especially if the brewers add rickie weeks, mat gamel and taylor green after the season ends.
  18. the claim of josh ravin makes it harder for a fringe player to be added to the 40-man . . . especially if the brewers add rickie weeks, mat gamel and taylor green after the season ends.
  19. Career stats the brewers claimed rhp josh ravin from the reds today. 2013 was his first year on a 40-man roster, so he'll enter 2014 spring training with two minor league options remaining. to make room on the 40-man, blake lalli was designated for assignment. because this is the second time he's been outrighted off a 40-man roster, he can elect free agency. the 40-man roster remains full.
  20. the chances of other players trying to make it onto the 40-man just got slimmer. now the brewers have to add rickie weeks back to the 40-man at the end of the season.
  21. the chances of other players trying to make it onto the 40-man just got slimmer. now the brewers have to add rickie weeks back to the 40-man at the end of the season.
  22. with the purchasing of nelson's contract, the 40-man roster is now full.
  23. i know that nashville is still playing, and that blake lalli hasn't spent a lot of time catching at nashville, but don't you find it odd that lalli's name hasn't come up as a september call-up? lalli is certain to be outrighted in the offseason, but the brewers might as well take advantage of having a third catcher, especially with a stretch of twenty straight games to end the season.
  24. 2013 was michael blazek's first season on a 40-man roster, and he's been shuttled back and forth this season by the cardinals. thus, he has two minor league options remaining at the start of 2014 spring training. the brewers roster is back at 39 with the acquisition of blazek.
