  1. the 40-man roster is at 38, so the brewers have some flexibility in purchasing the contracts of a couple promising minor leaguers and bringing them up in september.
  2. this move puts the 40-man at 38. marcum's return would put it at 39.
  3. nice to see bianchi back. let's hope ransom gets buried on the bench.
  4. impending shutdown for mark rogers to limit his innings in 2012?
  5. i think the brewers are hoping that k-rod can put together a string of great outings with great command and be able to trade him for some minor salary relief by 31 august. it would also conveniently open up a 40-man roster spot (which will likely be full again when they activate marcum).
  6. ceremony 31 august. area pigeons being fed a special diet in preparation for the event.
  7. not counting players activated from the disabled list, four in 2011. six in 2010. seven in 2009.
  8. likely a temporary move, but jeff bianchi is up for a few days while mark rogers is on paternity leave. fans should note that this returns the brewers to a 12-man pitching staff.
  9. conrad outrighted to the rays' triple a team.
  10. if the goal is to audition minor leaguers for bullpen roles for 2013 and beyond, why are they keeping an injured manny parra on the active roster? one can only assume that the brewers hope to be able to trade him before 31 august, and you can't trade a player on the disabled list.
  11. the rays have designated brooks conrad for assignment after reinstating evan longoria from the 60-day disabled list.
  12. you'll like this, then . . . http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=26141
  13. he's available again. designated for assignment by the diamondbacks.
  14. part of me thinks that today could be a day of shocking roster moves. it got me thinking about other in-season days where the brewers removed at least two major players from their 25-man roster (major defined by high salary and/or being a starting player). the most recent shake-up that comes to mind is 12 august 2009, when the brewers designated bill hall for assignment and optioned j.j. hardy to nashville, recalling alcides escobar and purchasing the contract of jason bourgeois from nashville. it was significant in that hardy had never been optioned to the minor leagues before, and that bill hall was still under contract for $8.4 million the following year (plus the hefty amount still owed him in 2009). what other major roster turnover days are in brewers' history?
  15. it should be noted that the 40-man is currently full.
  16. the only position player currently on the 40-man roster in the minors with more career plate appearances than taylor green is edwin maysonet. if the brewers want an inexperienced player like green to get regular work, why would they call up any 40-man roster player other than maysonet? of course, it's possible that the brewers could purchase the contract of a player in their organization, but that would require roster maneuvering as the 40-man is currently full (despite what it says on brewers.com).
